I have one question, the music in this version is different than in the MK2/Warner version. Is this the original score for the movie or is it a different score?
Wonderful heartwarming gem of a movie. Chaplin was a perfectionist and obsessively hands-on in the making of his movies. He performed and oversaw each and every step including editing and controlling the musical score. Even to writing the music. Smile was written by him for modern Times. Really wished his score for this movie was included. I see how much not having it affects the emotional appeal.
There are so many ways that social problems and solutions may be demonstrated within the idustrial world. This film was a funny example of early Victorian story telling classing with the American Industrial Revolution late period. The world Industrial Revolution had ended 1920 and by that time child labor law and other laws pertaining to orphans and labor evolved but, conflicting within many boundaries upon Grass Roots Philosophy.
Made a lonely Thanksgiving less lonely. Everything Chaplin did is golden. Where are our film geniuses? Being deprived money by Hollywood, unfortunately. Billions spent on crap today, and those with original ideas are forced to go independent. Thanks for this.
Jackie Coogan had such amazing focus, and acting ability at such a young age, child actors owe gratitude to him for creating the law that protects their equity...we will always love you as Uncle Fester in The Addams Family.
Thank you for uploading. My father always talked about "the kid': as a matter of fact, he affectionately called my son "the kid". So many nuggets of genius in this movie and wasn't Uncle Fester a beautiful child?
The tramp, the pinnacle image of carrying on elegantly under the duress of poverty, adopts the child with minimal hesitation, thus despite his comical tattered looks he becomes the most loving and intrepid member of the cast.
