Nathan is one of the best bass players. He played on so many great dance tracks, and worked with the likes of Bryan Ferry and Eric Clapton. Shouldn't try to sing though !
You are 100% wrong about his vocals. i suggest you look at the videos with live in particular "IN BETWEEN THE SHEETS" with Chaka.
I will admit that the Stevie wonder song is not his best vocals, it sounded like his vocals were not his best that day. I've heard him sing too many times over last 20 years to know what he can do.

1) Yes, he is most definitely one of the best, and the concert I saw in Nashville with Herbie on 5/25/07 indicated that Nathan's talent is far more expansive than I ever knew.
2) He is a very good singer with tons of range that can sing anything he plays. Is he a pop singer? Who cares? I Would relish having him on stage with me ANYTIME! He totally gives Herbie's current band an incredibly wide dimension of song selections.

Okay, I knew he was an awesome bass player, but I've never heard him sing before. And what a voice!
Next, I'm expecting him to be able to shoot lasers from his eyes or something, cause he's turning into a super hero!
Maybe he could team up with Gail Anne Dorsey? They could save the world by playing bass, singing like gods and blowing our minds.

I saw them in Chicago. One of my top 3 fav concerts of all time. Mahler 6 w/CSO and then Wayne Shorter Quartet are the other 2.
