  • Looking forward to seeing these fellas at Flying Legends this year. BTW, what causes the distinctive whistling noise when a P-51 comes out of a loop?

  • It is the wind going through the guns!!

im looking forward to seeing them at legends this w/e aswell :)

  • Seriously? Just that I've not heard that noise from any other warbird, other than the P-51 that's all.

  • I have heard that it is because of the way that some of the guns are set inside of the ports on the wings. However, I have heard that this is a disputable explanation, so not sure if this is irrefutable.

  • Cheers for that. I've been speculating on the effect of the air intake under the fuselage.

  • no you guys its not the gins that make that whisling noise its the intake under the fusealage when the air is forced into it it whisles

  • i ment guns

  • @AirShowFan22 its actually the supercharger

  • @hawker800FO It is not the supercharger that makes the wining sound. It is air travelling over the gun ports and high speed. It is an effect that does not happen on Mustangs that no longer have gun ports; but happens on Mustangs that do still have gun ports.
