  • Parts to this song brings goosebumps...Barry has that knack of arranging and singing songs that are so excrutiatingly beautiful.

  • @renfieldvonklauss I'm sorry you feel that way. I really think that arbitrary insults further our understanding of your level. While Barry did a good job with this song, In contrast, I feel that Meatloaf sang the song with a lot more depth and feeling. Even though Meatloaf's version omitted a verse that Barry left in, I don't feel it detracted from the dynamics of the rendition. May I suggest that in the future, you can appreciate a particular artist over another with out belittling either.

  • This is probably Barry's best song, as @HagbardCeline42 said. I prefer the original Meat Loaf version, but Barry does a fantastic cover.

  • luh dis song...

  • Holy shit! He tore that song up! Fucking Manilow is unreal. What a cover.

  • @3338MAN I couldn't agree more with how you expressed it!

  • Best cover of this magnificently written song I have ever heard, just a master piece of a rock song!

No other words for this amazing song!

  • this is such a good song==compared to meatloafs version..Jim Stienman sounds like a disgruntled oprea singer doing this,,it was so bad my dog wanted to leave the room,,kudos to jim stienman for writing such a beautiful song===

  • he is "no" meatloaf

  • another great power ballad by barry

  • is a really nice song.

  • meat loafs is better

  • Classic song. However, the release you provided is off by over one year. the song and album were both released in 1983. In fact Read 'Em and Weep hit #18 in January, 1984. Look it up before you spill the facts.

  • If I could only find the words then I would write it all down it if I could only find a voice I would speak - but what's the point because as always you still wouldn't listen!! It is so there in my eyes but my guns are so beyond exausted !! It is now running silent and angry and very deep and promises I made will not be kept anymore! Though I continue to love you as I always have sadly enough is enough and I really have had enough now and so have the kids x

  • I'm glad this song was memorialized well

  • I am a hard rock fan at heart! Heavy metal, scorpions.iron maiden etc.But how could anyone deny this mans voice and talent!!

  • Yes, Jim Steinmann song written for Meatloaf and yet Barry Manilow's Version is by far better. When you compare the two, Meatloaf (and he is a great singer) comes off second best. I admit I can't imagine Barry singing 2 out of 3 ain't bad or any other song from the Bat out of Hell Album better than Meatloaf. But on this one he's is 2nd.

It's a great song and true on so many levels

  • As always, a J. steinman classic story song.....Sung by a great lyricist/singer in his own right. Ever notice how all of steinman's songs have that lamentable/bombastic choir like feel??? Same with total eclipse o the heart, and making love out o nothin at all (Which I despise, because it was everywhere in '84!!!)..I'd be curious to hear meatloaf's version of these

  • we have a row about this every other weekend - Barry V meatloaf (via Jim Stienman I realise) -guess who wins.. oooh that would be me! Whilst meatloaf is fabulous and I love him - head to head even he can't touch Barry. It's the build up of Barry's passion that gets me every time

  • this is a good song by B.M but better form meatloaf

  • Thnx for posting! Doing a project on Wayne Cilento (choreographer of video). ...And, admittedly, a rediculous closet Barry Manilow fan! (Actually, I'm wearing manilow shirt right now!). Awesome stuff! Thnx!

  • Such a completely underrated song. Anyone who has ever suffered heartache can identify with SOMEthing in this song. Thank you for posting. Of all the songs Barry is known for, most people would name ten others before this one. Awesome artist.

  • Think I prefer Meat Loaf version from Dead Ringer, but still an interesting take on it anyway. Meat's version had a far superior piano, recorded in a far more interesting key, and overall just better production. This version is still great, but lacks the power Meat's version had

  • Oh, it brought me to those "cassette tape" days when I was a high school boy and played this song round and round and round in countless nights missing the girl I had loved...

  • Wow! Kids today don't know what real music or artistry is. Thanks for uploading! Great music like this deserves to be discovered by new audiences. With a career that has spanned several decades, Barry is the real deal.

  • As sad as it is to say, this song brings back the memories of my playing Castlevania: Bloodlines. I would put this song on for hours and listen to it, and just get lost in the words. As I said, not much of a memory, but what the hell, right? Love this song! Thanks for posting!!

  • Now this is the real long and complete version of this song. Some recordings omit I believe one of the last three stanzas.

  • This is my all time favorite from Barry, thanx for the memories!

  • awesome song....love it

  • Barry, love your music, man. But Meat Loaf really nails this song with his sheer emotion.

  • Meat Loaf's version absolutely shits over this one! Sorry Barry, you're a good singer, but Meat Loaf's voice does this Steinman classic more justice!!!

  • No it doesn't jamie!

You just can't 'compute' 2 versions, for

    you, it's either/or. It's deal dumb, no it's

    real idiotic!

"'Now go home and get your fuckin' shine

    box"!

  • Fuck yourself, your mum and learn to spell you moronic embicile!

  • jamie, 'embicile' ? You are very silly boy! And very dumb. I guess mom, hid you behind her dress! You are the dumbest person, I've ever encounted. Your mom, wrote me a very nice letter, she said you have lived a very difficult life, she mentioned your drug addiction, your homosexual desires, you have really upset you mom. She even told me, she hates you. Learn to behave yourself, wash yourself, stop with the drugs, and learn to behave!
  • be original and learn to spell too u illiterate fathead! You used "behave yourself" twice in one sentence u inbred fuck.

  • I prefer the Meat Loaf version. There is more passion and power in Meat's version.

  • Aaaw... so moving... nice piece of music!

  • i know it's about a boyand girl breaking up, but it aqlso reminds me of a very close friendship that i lost

  • This song brings back memories for sure. Beautiful song.

  • Another Gem from Jim Steinman !

  • Thanks very much for posting with lyrics. ;)

    Tks so much

  • me too LOL

  • I have always loved this song. So deep, so sad, so profound, yet.... still filled with love. ;o) That is BARRY!!

  • this song reminds me of a girl a knew breifly in Australia 22 years ago, those were the days

  • Strange but wonderful song. I love Barry :)

  • I don't think Barry cares what he sings along as it keeps him from going back to Brooklyn

  • gd song but meats is much better

  • I agree 100%

  • Barry's best song and he didn't even write it. Weird. (though I still like the "Hoover" jingle that the company turned down.

  • Oh my goodness!!!!

Awesomeeeeeeeee!!!! Thx 4 uploading this!!! It was like 1:30 am last Sunday and I suddenly woke up when I listened to this song on the radio... I could just keep a couple of verses in my mind and then I came and found it!

    Thank u, thank u so much!!! :)

  • This is Barry's best song! Thank you for putting it on here!

  • Wat fürn Video???

  • sorry but i don't understand ur question :-?

  • God, I love this man so much. The passion in this song just reminds me why. Oh Barry....

  • The video was removed four days ago? I missed it by four days? Life just sucks...

  • all the this was original meat loafs song by jim steinman i do think barry manilows cover is better i think his version is more powerful

  • i've no idea but i'm supposing either youtube or the user who uploaded the video deleted it. videos on youtube r typically uploaded by regular every-day ppl if i'm not mistaken, not artists or producers. sometimes if a user uploads something considered inappropriate or copyright infringement, their account along with anything they've uploaded will be deleted/canceled. that's my best guess. but who knows.

  • Hey what happened to the music video of this song? I do believe it was uploaded on YouTube before.

  • Thank you very much to upload this song. I am looking for this song for 22years. The memorials of my campus life recurred to me.

  • ur quite welcome hun. wow, u md my day. reali happy i cud provide ya wiv sum sweet memories. xxx if any1 has any requests for otha songs i'll try ma best to get 'em for ya. :) xx love n stuff x

  • @krystle1362 Thanks for uploading this.. I have long been trying to find the lyrics and now I finally got it. More power and God bless:-)

  • @krystle1362 love this song

  • @krystle1362 iv'e been looking for this song, its called close my eyes by watershed, i cant find it on youtube, and my old supplier of song, mp3skull, stopped showing that song, please try get it on youtube, i know it's copyright or somehing but, i was looking for the song for 8 yrs since my cousin did a commercial in it, if you could, or if you could get some information on where to listen to it please reply or send a message. i would be very grateful.

    thank you.

  • @aumurakami I think you look for MEAT LOAF ~ READ 'EM AND WEEP

Unfortenly I can't find it with Lyrics and Kareako. But it is defently Meat Loaf you look for, as Barry Manilow is mush newer then 22 (24) years...

  • thank youuu krystle... i love this song. I forgot about her and when i found it here its touch me very deep... and also thank you for de lyric... because my english is not the best and i don't undertand everything... but now i think the song is more beautifull than what i can remember

  • DEFINATELY!!! This song touches the very soul the broken hearted person!!! I can play it over and over again, it NEVER gets old!!! I LOVE this version waaaaaaaaay better than when meatloaf sings it!! thanks Barry, you are the most awesome performer!!!!

  • you can find the original video at AOL videos. Or just google "read em and weep"by barry manilow.

  • This song was written by Jim Steinman for Meat Loaf for his "Dead Ringer" Album. Jim's one the best song writers ever I think, so you'll find a lot's of covers..

  • thnx for the info wayofnorth. :) i'd have to agree with ya based on this song alone. i've prob'ly heard a lot ov his songs but just wuzn't aware who wrote 'em.

  • @wayofnorth jim s. is a good writer but i think barry's version is heart felt-- i heard meatloaf sing one version and it sounded like bad oprea-- but then i heard another and it was great..

  • @wayofnorth Their simply nothing short of iconic!

He's my all time favourite songwriter, this song really actually chills me out, it's brilliant I think, just imagine if he'd never have met up with Meatloaf though! Horrible thought, though I am not much of a believer in fate but those kinds of events are swaying me I think.

    Great upload!

  • The video Barry did for this song was pretty neat. I wish I knew how to get it from my VHS onto my computer so I can upload it. I haven't seen the video ever on youtube

  • if ur VCR has a firewire or UPC port u can connect it to ur pc and digitize ur video this way. otherwise u can buy a capture card at almost any electronics store (Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, etc...hope this helps :)

  • the video was on here once but it was removed. it was last year i think. i saw it when it came out it was beautiful!

  • Funny enough, it was on here and now gone. I wish I had saved it!

  • ur quite welcome MotherMoonie. I prob'ly made a few mistakes n typos cuz i just typed up da lyrix maself n sry to say i neither have nor have i seen the original Manilow vid for dis 1 but if i come across it i'll b sure ta let ya kno :) i appreciate every1z comments :) thnx again all

  • Thanks for the words to this song. Does anyone have the original Barry Manilow video to this song??? I'd love to see it again!

  • i LOVE this song by Barry! i remember him performing this when i saw him in concert in 1984 and him crying at the very end of it. it was beautiful just like he is. i hope i can see him again soon. he is the best ever. i love you barry!
