@renfieldvonklauss I'm sorry you feel that way. I really think that arbitrary insults further our understanding of your level. While Barry did a good job with this song, In contrast, I feel that Meatloaf sang the song with a lot more depth and feeling. Even though Meatloaf's version omitted a verse that Barry left in, I don't feel it detracted from the dynamics of the rendition. May I suggest that in the future, you can appreciate a particular artist over another with out belittling either.
this is such a good song==compared to meatloafs version..Jim Stienman sounds like a disgruntled oprea singer doing this,,it was so bad my dog wanted to leave the room,,kudos to jim stienman for writing such a beautiful song===
Classic song. However, the release you provided is off by over one year. the song and album were both released in 1983. In fact Read 'Em and Weep hit #18 in January, 1984. Look it up before you spill the facts.
If I could only find the words then I would write it all down it if I could only find a voice I would speak - but what's the point because as always you still wouldn't listen!! It is so there in my eyes but my guns are so beyond exausted !! It is now running silent and angry and very deep and promises I made will not be kept anymore! Though I continue to love you as I always have sadly enough is enough and I really have had enough now and so have the kids x
Yes, Jim Steinmann song written for Meatloaf and yet Barry Manilow's Version is by far better. When you compare the two, Meatloaf (and he is a great singer) comes off second best. I admit I can't imagine Barry singing 2 out of 3 ain't bad or any other song from the Bat out of Hell Album better than Meatloaf. But on this one he's is 2nd.
As always, a J. steinman classic story song.....Sung by a great lyricist/singer in his own right. Ever notice how all of steinman's songs have that lamentable/bombastic choir like feel??? Same with total eclipse o the heart, and making love out o nothin at all (Which I despise, because it was everywhere in '84!!!)..I'd be curious to hear meatloaf's version of these
we have a row about this every other weekend - Barry V meatloaf (via Jim Stienman I realise) -guess who wins.. oooh that would be me! Whilst meatloaf is fabulous and I love him - head to head even he can't touch Barry. It's the build up of Barry's passion that gets me every time
Thnx for posting! Doing a project on Wayne Cilento (choreographer of video). ...And, admittedly, a rediculous closet Barry Manilow fan! (Actually, I'm wearing manilow shirt right now!). Awesome stuff! Thnx!
Such a completely underrated song. Anyone who has ever suffered heartache can identify with SOMEthing in this song. Thank you for posting. Of all the songs Barry is known for, most people would name ten others before this one. Awesome artist.
Think I prefer Meat Loaf version from Dead Ringer, but still an interesting take on it anyway. Meat's version had a far superior piano, recorded in a far more interesting key, and overall just better production. This version is still great, but lacks the power Meat's version had
Oh, it brought me to those "cassette tape" days when I was a high school boy and played this song round and round and round in countless nights missing the girl I had loved...

Wow! Kids today don't know what real music or artistry is. Thanks for uploading! Great music like this deserves to be discovered by new audiences. With a career that has spanned several decades, Barry is the real deal.
As sad as it is to say, this song brings back the memories of my playing Castlevania: Bloodlines. I would put this song on for hours and listen to it, and just get lost in the words. As I said, not much of a memory, but what the hell, right? Love this song! Thanks for posting!!
Meat Loaf's version absolutely shits over this one! Sorry Barry, you're a good singer, but Meat Loaf's voice does this Steinman classic more justice!!!
jamie, 'embicile' ? You are very silly boy! And very dumb. I guess mom, hid you behind her dress! You are the dumbest person, I've ever encounted. Your mom, wrote me a very nice letter, she said you have lived a very difficult life, she mentioned your drug addiction, your homosexual desires, you have really upset you mom. She even told me, she hates you. Learn to behave yourself, wash yourself, stop with the drugs, and learn to behave!
Awesomeeeeeeeee!!!! Thx 4 uploading this!!! It was like 1:30 am last Sunday and I suddenly woke up when I listened to this song on the radio... I could just keep a couple of verses in my mind and then I came and found it!
i've no idea but i'm supposing either youtube or the user who uploaded the video deleted it. videos on youtube r typically uploaded by regular every-day ppl if i'm not mistaken, not artists or producers. sometimes if a user uploads something considered inappropriate or copyright infringement, their account along with anything they've uploaded will be deleted/canceled. that's my best guess. but who knows.

DEFINATELY!!! This song touches the very soul the broken hearted person!!! I can play it over and over again, it NEVER gets old!!! I LOVE this version waaaaaaaaay better than when meatloaf sings it!! thanks Barry, you are the most awesome performer!!!!
This song was written by Jim Steinman for Meat Loaf for his "Dead Ringer" Album. Jim's one the best song writers ever I think, so you'll find a lot's of covers..
thnx for the info wayofnorth. :) i'd have to agree with ya based on this song alone. i've prob'ly heard a lot ov his songs but just wuzn't aware who wrote 'em.
@wayofnorth jim s. is a good writer but i think barry's version is heart felt-- i heard meatloaf sing one version and it sounded like bad oprea-- but then i heard another and it was great..
He's my all time favourite songwriter, this song really actually chills me out, it's brilliant I think, just imagine if he'd never have met up with Meatloaf though! Horrible thought, though I am not much of a believer in fate but those kinds of events are swaying me I think.
The video Barry did for this song was pretty neat. I wish I knew how to get it from my VHS onto my computer so I can upload it. I haven't seen the video ever on youtube

Parts to this song brings goosebumps...Barry has that knack of arranging and singing songs that are so excrutiatingly beautiful.
