thanks for putting your time and effort into making this vid, has help clear a few things up but what gets me is how do you add feed? do you empty the bucket and add new solution or just make it up as you go and keep topping it up?
@samster45 i watched another video the other day and this guy was fairly good at what he did and he changed the feed all in one go, he just emptied old solution out and added new solution....
@mybuscommunitytransp well i haven't heard of 'topping up' but i did add a tap to the bottom of my dwc system and i drain it and there's a hose in the top where i fill it ( so roots are not exposed to light ) although i guess you could top up too
This is what I was going to do but then I stopped by a local Hydroponics shop and they had lids for 3 & 5 gallon buckets that already have the net pot built into them.
I got the lid, a 3 gallon bucket, an air pump, tubing, an air stone, a bag of Hydroton and a bag of rockwool plugs for $24. Not knocking the vid though, it's a great video for those who don't have access to the potted lids.
haha ur funny.... I could have this built before you even got your item shipped. If your too lazy to do a 15 min project.. then stop surfing youtube for DIY !!!! maybe you should try a diy pencil. 1. buy pencil. 2. sharpen. But I guess you would try to buy them pre-sharpened hahaha
@jasensullivan - ya she is good as well as bauks. both have done the trial n error and research. They help a lot of people imo. i dunno about the water temps but you want 75-80degrees max for ambient (heat from lights, mainly hps-mh) air in the tent-grow box- closet. Any higher things go south fast.
@jasensullivan - Ya ph is always a pain, but if you get a system, its easier to deal with. BTW, the havest every 2weeks is Bauks420. I've followed him since the start (just under a few names). He does it for him and a friend so, thats why there is alot of totes. No need to go big unless you need that much lol. Do alot of research more on nutrients and applications, and mainly watch other peoples grows and tailor it to your own. And trust me, most of it comes down to simple trial and error. GL
@jasensullivan - Most people do that at the start and as the roots develop and fall into the solution, most people stop top feeding and only use the airpump. What roots are in the water get what they need and send it up. And the partially exposed roots get that air. I believe thats how its done. I and loads of friends have with great success. Hope this helps
So I like you're idea of no sprayers, just a bubbler. Why not just use one air pump outside the pot and an air stone? Then you could make a system of pots running off one pump ultra-cheap! One time I purchased these small plastic cups (liter?) used for mixing paint and got the plants to root in that. This saved me a lot in nute mix when they are really small.
They are bags you can buy that you insert your pump into. Made to prevent algae and salt build up, but I am sure they can be used to avoid problems with the root ball. Only run about $5 also

Most hydroponic stores will have these complete kits. For everything a 1.5 gal bucket/lid/netpot/pump is 25 bucks..a 3.5 is 35 bucks

I saw this entire DWC kit on the website for $44.99, i'll rather buy that than waist time building my own.

@zcarporn - Sorry, correction. I mean 75-80degrees is good, but higher than say 85 degrees is bad.

I just now learned of the hydor aerator and want to do the exact same thing as in your video. is there an issue with roots engulfing the pump?
