Santorum is not saying he’ll abolish the NDAA. He's saying the same thing as Obama... He would maintain the "standard" that was the law "prior to the NDAA". Notice he's said, "that WAS the law" (the former law that protected Americans’ right to due process) but now, according to Santorum, the law is the NDAA. Mr. Hedges hit the ultimate political subtext of the NDAA, that is: the corporatocracy is afraid of the general public (aka the 99%) because they know that when all the 'have nots' wake up they will have no place to run and the police alone won't be able to protect them. So, having the power to call anyone a terrorist and have them picked up and locked away on command by the military without due process will not only come in handy, but will be a primordial tool of survival for them.

Most people DO NOT understand that there are 2 classes of Citizens in this country. A "Sovereign" of their particular State and a U.S. Citizen. A U.S. Citizen can be many things, a government employee, a holder of office or a beneficiary of the fed\state government. Have a SS card? You are contracted with the government for your benefit. It's not a large stretch to see the government being able to interpret the Occupy movement's goals as an overthrow of the current system, which is the same goal as al' Qaida, so the Occupy demonstrators are "associated" with terrorist groups and can therefore be held indefinitely.
