As has been stated it was the first of its kind. It does seem obvious now but remember this predates a lot of the mockumentaries +satires to which we've become accustomed since.Also having some1 trustworthy such as M.Parkinson, not a comedian or entertainer as such added to the authenticity. The genuine phone-in number (I recall it also being used for Sarah Greene's other show 'Going Live') + Parky insinuating that subsequent programmes would be suspended, all adds to the credibility.

Just curious- on 50 seconds, Parkinson mentions that the next programme has been cancelled. I just wonder what that "programme" was? Given that Ghostwatch is a drama, they must have known exactly how long it would last. So, I guess, they put a phoney programme in the TV guides?

Must have been funny if people DID tune in for this programme!

Either that, or Ghostwatch was scheduled correctly, and there WAS no other programme in the TV guide. IE its fake talk about another programme.

No program was canceled. It was a clever throw away line put into the program.

It ran it's entire run time. Amusingly, it was listed as Drama in the Radio Times.
