  • Why was this in my recomadtions??...

  • I've rolled my 15 passenger van countless times. The most dramatic event was when I rolled it off Mt McKinley. I was surprised that it was still driveable. The reason these vans roll is because couples take to the back seats to fuck. It is the violent fucking / thrusting that causes the van to roll. Sure, blame the tires, when all that needs to be done is heavier duty suspension. Paint finish is important as well. Paint applied evenly makes a safer riding vehicle.

  • @seapeddler Are you kidding me?

  • @randomcrew9 Well, I guess I made it up. I accept my punishment. I'll now return to my home planet.

  • The rollover issue can be solved if manufactures can make the body of the vehicle stronger, so in a rollover, the van won't cave in. Nobody would be crushed to death or thrown out of the vehicle. Curtain airbags can be an improvement too.

  • You don't have to be an engineer to see that the rear track width is much too narrow on this vehicle relative to it's height. This problem could be easily and inexpensively fixed by adding dual wheels and tires to the rear axle. It would increase the lateral stability of the van by making the track width much wider and it would eliminate the overloaded rear tire problem by distributing the weight on more tires. Add the tires and some little plastic fenders to cover the hangover for less than $K.

  • what i can do ?

easy make my E150 dually on the rear magic no more roll over

  • I think the Ford E150 is safer........

  • Can't they put a roll cage in?

  • comment on the tire pressure, my pickup takes 80psi in the rear and 65psi up front. and another, if the weight thing is that big of a problem just move two of the benches to the other side to distribute the weight.

  • comment on the tire pressure thing. my pickup takes 80psi in the rear and 65psi up front. and another, just move two of the benches to the other side to distribute the weight

  • i cant even begin to remember how many times i have over loaded my truck and it has passenger car tire's on it..never once did i have any trouble..but you cant drive like it is an a/c cobra ..use your head..if anything .all 15 pass vans will have the same characteristics as you drive..the ford got 2 stars,,what about the dodge and chevy vans ?..and you cant compare a honda mini van to an extended large full size van,.,this is a bit misleading

  • Also have to add... sure the passengers sit slightly offset, but the engine block and fuel tank are also offset (typically the other direction too -- Dodge and Chevy vans have a right-biased engine location)

  • The problem isn't weight distribution (Your 45% statement was pulled out of your ass and you know it). The problem is people putting cheap tires on. These vans require XL-rated tires which cost more... so fleets are less likely to purchase them. Your video states ONLY the E350 has different front/rear pressures? Bull, practically every truck has different pressures. My Dodge B2500 lists 35 front / 41 rear.

  • 2:05 shows a Dodge van not an E- Series ford at all.

  • ford quality=poor, best they can do is to refuse to ride in all american cars

  • @bergsteinlife yor not an anerican

  • i am sry but this video sucks not on why they roll over tho. coz it focus on the ford van you do know that chevy and dodge has a 15 passenger van to you know and they are alot worst then the ford e van they are not well made but its like i siad this is what you get when you turn a work horses in to a 15 passenger van lol i dont no why but why cant ppls just buy an rv lol there alot beter

  • Why put 45% on one wheel?

  • It's not the van's fault that the drivers are morons.....

  • There could be a number of reasons.

  • We're getting a 15 passenger Ford van. Thanks for scaring the crap out of me, dude. I'm paranoid about rollovers enough. Way to pinpoint the Fords. I just need to get my kids to and from school. Definitely getting a tire pressure gauge.

  • Ok, this vid is kinda stupid. Because there is nothing wrong with riding in a 15 passenger van AS LONG as the van would be safe. Ford should just try to fix this problem by making there Ford E-serios van's safer.

  • Because they have too much weight over the rear axle...

  • A 15-passenger van, when loaded with passengers, becomes a bus and should be driven exactly like one. That means slower speeds (50-55mph max), slower cornering, and greater following distances. Instead, I routinely see drivers, with little regard for passengers, exceeding speed limits, swaying heavily around corners, and tailgating.

  • I have 3 E-350's, 2) 15's & 1) 12 liveries. Over 5 MILLION passenger miles w/o an accident. Couple of policies; EVERYONE WEARS SEATBELT, NEVER 65+ mph, most times 60 mph. 4/32" tread = replace tire, law says 2/32" OK. Monroe Gas-Magnum RV shocks rear & Gas-Magnum shock front (better than OEM). Finally, often over looked things such as ball joints replaced every 100k miles, besides regular maintenance such as brakes & oil changes. Drive safe, take care of vehicle. Its that simple!

  • 1:58

That tire is bald why were they driving on that tire to begin with?

  • @JohnFromSpace ummm, the tread de-laminated from the tire.

  • 'The leaf springs clamp directly to the drive axle. ..If you turn corners hard, it can cause lateral movement of the rear end that results in unpredictable handling.'

from Popular Hotrodding Magazine. Youtube won't post the link.

  • The tires are made of rubber and have internal damping. Leaf springs do not have side to side damping.

  • If you enter a 45 mph turn at 50 mph, you are going too fast.

If you don't keep a 3-4 second following distance between you & the car in front of you, you are too close.

Not wearing your seatbelt increases your likelihood of death about 400%.

Not paying attention, hard stops & turns causes accidents.

Not checking your tires, brakes, lights, etc before every trip is stupid.

Doesn't matter what vehicle it is. These vehicles ARE unforgiving. Slow down. Drive like a professional. You can be safe.

  • ANY vehicle is unforgiving if driven like a racecar.

  • these vans aren't extremely prone to rolling over like everyone believes. yes, they will roll just like every other vehicle pushed beyond it's limits. drivers don't understand how to properly correct their vehicles causing them to get into accidents. a while back, i was driving my 15 passenger at 60mph and yanked the steering wheel half a turn to avoid an accident, the van leaned hard and i corrected myself, the van stayed on all fours and there was no problem. idiots just need to learn to drive

  • That is not Ford's fault you dumbass!!! It is the tire manufacturer's fault. Ford has made the best FULL sized van for 25 years running. What are you taking about? This is a liberal BS card

  • i just gave them a piece of my mind. pretty much combined all your arguments plus some of my own. see what happens in the next few days

  • i guess people should start living in bubbles and never leave the house. the statistics didn't mention that these vans typically have 300,000 plus miles on them, from all their safe trips that didn't result in a rollover, and due to their high amount of use that maintenance gets neglected. Maybe, just maybe, the advice should be only ride in properly maintained vehicles. Or check the tires before riding in a van. Man people and their misplaced emotions. Waa waa x died in a van boycott vans

  • Dont forget, DRIVE properly. err ADD the aforementioned. htese thigns dont spontaneously roll over

  • KIA Sedona (much cheaper then the oddyssey) ..the 2001-2005 model gets 4 stars aswell in NHTSA's rollover test

  • To all the people on here who keep trying to marginalize the dangers of vehicle rollovers because it hasn't happened to them, keep in mind that all you're going to hear stories about are people who didn't die in rollover accidents or who haven't experienced them. All the people who did die in rollovers aren't on YT telling their stories because they're fucking dead. They can't argue with you or present their own stories, so of course there's going to be a bias in the stories you do hear.

  • My father has been through plenty of tire blowout,he has over 45 years of experience and we still have the same van ,you cannot only blame the car, 85 % of accidents have to do with the driver not being able to control the vehicle, i was in plenty of ma fathers blowouts he never got nervous took the vehicle back into control while we were going 85 on a 1994 ford econoline ,rip, those who were not so lucky ,if u choose to enter a van make sure the driver is experienced!!

  • The fault is the leaf spring rear suspension. It allows the wheels to shift from side to side. When the driver corrects a skid, the stored spring energy causes the axle to kick out.

  • you jackass, any type of suspension will do that

  • Go down to the dealership, the barnyard, or the trailer park and push on the back corner of an SUV or small pickup. It will move by an inch or so. You are only pushing with 100 pounds of force. When that vehicle gets sideways at 60mph, the force is a 1000 pounds. Link type suspension does not allow this lateral deflection. Ask any stock car racer.

  • it's not the leaf springs that cause it to move an inch, it's the high profile tires. i drive a mercury grand marquis that came stock with a linked rear end that has 215/70R-15 tires which is sitting next to the E-350 with 245/75R-16 tires, the car runs 35psi and the van runs 80psi. when i rock the van side to side, the TIRES flex and the van moves about an inch. when i rock the car; which has lower profile tires, moves 4-5 inches side to side. keep in mind that the car has a linked rear end

  • also hte merc has a lower centre of gravity. iove driven, and owned both typs of vehjicles

  • Something that this video doesn't discuss that is also very important is tire age. A tire (even ones sold as new) should NOT be used if it is over 6 years old from date of manufacture. Old tires (even the ones sold as new) have a much higher risk of tread separation. Tread separation even in a car with a low center of gravity can rollover.

  • Thank you for your very informative post. Please read about the most recent event with 16 kids Rocky Mountain Masters Commission who experienced this disaster first hand 11/13/09. I make the pledge and hope and pray the Masters Commission learns from this tragedy once and for all and makes the PLEDGE.

  • I still think most of the fatalities come from a false sense of security.

People think they're invincible when they're in a big vehicle.

That, and seat belt use is a MAJOR factor, roof crush or not. Even adults using 15 passenger vans think it's like a bus and just don't wear their seatbelts (I know this from my coworkers who harass me for wearing mine).

  • (WARNING: Heavy sarcasm will be present in the following comment)

hmmm.. no accidents pinned against the driver of any of these vans. If a truck rolled over, there'd be 11,000 state troopers, 647 media outlets screaming "truck rollover," dispatchers yelling "roll it back over and get ur ass moving; u got 5 hours to go 9000 miles," public saying "careless (bleep) truckers; & I hate (bleep) trucks," and the driver gets a $900,000+ fine for careless operation.

I see a flaw in society.

  • the old dodge maxi vans 1971-2003 B body style had the same issue as the ford E series Its simply inexperience on the drivers part and like what everybody else has said on here........ proper tire pressure!!!

  • does anybody remember the lady that tried to sue ford because she rolled over her 1990 bronco || and said it was a design flaw?? Her case didn't hold water because they put warning stickers from factory on the sun visor on these vehicles stating how that they handle different then a car and to read the manual for more info.Ford still settled the case but I think it was just for her medical bills.

  • I have read it is because the inexperience of the driver who does not drive this type of vehicle every day. I have been driving vans for 20 years now being Im a flooring installer and I have never had ANY problems. People tend to overcompensate on turns, lane changes, exits, etc... I used to haul about 10,000 lobs of material and people 200 miles every day going 80mph+ and never had an issue where the van was going to roll over. We even used to put 8 rolls of carpet padding on the roof!!!

  • it's not about design flaw, it's about ignorant people not maintaining their vehicle correctly, the uneven pressure is for towing, the 15 passenger vans can haul a very high amount of weight with the correct tires on the rear axle, and when these heavy duty tires are under-inflated, they will blowout

  • omg cars dont roll over when the tire pops and all tires create heat, once the rim hit the asphalt it just come to a halt its just over correction from human error that cause these roll overs u know nothing about cars

  • All vans and trucks for that matter , have different tire pressures front and rear. I service a fleet of E350 ambulances...and they don't roll over. They are also loaded to the max GVWR. Driver error is the cause of these roll overs.

  • very good points but most likley the vans were not taken care of very good by the owner.

  • Comparing a Honda MINIVAN to a full size van is just stupid...Of course the minivan would be less likely to roll over, it's lower to the ground and riding on a car suspension. But it can't haul 15 people.

Keep your tires inflated and don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine in a 15 passenger van.

  • @fitz207 i have a 2003 E350, and have never had a problem, just keep the rear tires at 80PSI and the front at 55PSI. and you cant expect the van to be able to support the whole underneath on the ROOF! DUHH. LOL. i think these vans are pretty safe. :)

  • @fitz207 Nice comment and you look

    cool lol

  • I thought this was gonna be a huge pile of shit video, but it's dead on.

  • It depends on who's driving, what type of tires are used, tire pressure and how many people are in the van are factors on why it would roll over. If someone checks the psi on the tires, then this won't happen as much.

  • These vehicles are 1) too narrow and 2) have the weight too high.

I've been refusing to ride in one of these vans for a while.

  • Even my vw beetle has different tire pressures front and rear because of the weight distribution. This is true of any vehicle that has more weight in back vs. front, or the other way around with front wheel drive cars. Besides, you'd think if you're going to risk driving around a ton of people in a poorly designed vehicle you would invest in a set of kick-ass 6 ply radials with high load ratings or something to avoid this problem...

  • i drive an 85 e150 and it is the extended model (if it was a passenger van it would be the 15 passenger) but most of my weight is on the left side, i can drift it, and take corners hard and fast, its all about the driver, it says in the owners manual that only a qualified driver should drive such a vehicle, don't let some one who drive a civic everyday drive one of these bad boys.

  • it rolls because you are STUPIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • epic

  • roll cage anyone?

  • All residential type trucks require different tires in the front and the back. This video is only wrong about that

  • These are 9500# TRUCKS treat them like such, Drive cautious, Maintain them properly, Use COMMON SENSE.

What makes these vans dangerous is putting a "car" driver behind the wheel of a, "Under CDL Limit" Truck, 16+ passenger is a CDL class vehicle.

put the most expirenced driver in that seat and leave him/her there!

    Don't allow distractions!

Inflate the tires properly, and make sure they say Load "E",...."C's" "D's" fit on the same rim!

  • oh shit I drive a 2004 e-350 cargo van 5 days a week at work. Everyone look out!!

  • darn my old brothers daycare had 2 ford e350 bad thing that did happen IT ROLLED! but my brother was sitting on the side that didnt get crushed

  • The people who make videos like this are generally bleeding heart idiots who would rather blame the maker than the operator. These are the kinds of people who would blame it on the maker of the John Deere Mower if some idiot shoved his hand under the cutting deck while the thing was running and lost his hand. Don't blame it on idiots, blame it on corporations. Great job, jackass.

  • @skenneyjr Thanks for the laugh. :)

  • ahh whine about it. if they have the nerve to make a video about how bad ford vans are, then they should make one about the suburban, escalade, and expedition too, because they have the same setup, just not as long of a body

  • why did u pick ford? Is ford special to u or what?

  • They should add a driver side passenger door like many minivans have now. This gives a center aisle that might balance out the weight.

  • putting a door on the driver side wouldn't allow the van have as many seats, which in a way, would make it less efficient

  • thak god for rollbars

  • How about blaming it on operator error instead of the van? The tires clearly state that the front and the rear tires should be inflated differently. It states clearly on the driver side door, 50 PSI in the front and 80 PSI in the back on 15 passenger vans. Whose fault is it for not checking the tire PSI? Not Ford. Not Chevy. Not Dodge, but the operator of the van.

  • my daycare has a ford e350 but we got a bus but the other kids now have it

  • best thing you can do is go fuck yourself! this video is bull shit and a roll over can happen in any car, even a suv and if i am not mistaken gm and dodge make the same van too! and i like how he blows up a minivan which seats 7 to 6 people no where near 15 people, i don't care if the honda wanda gets twice the mileage you still need too cars too match the 15 passenger van, which will burn even more fuel, and increase accident risk. best bet is to make sure that the van gets proper repairs!

  • whoa!! the roof at 2:15 is crushed!

  • now the vans have roll stability controll, that GREATLY decreces the likly hood of a rollover

  • What I can't stand about this video is that:

    1. Unfair. Its not like Ford is the only company with unsafe vans on the road.

    2. Heat from low tire pressure? Its HIGHER tire pressure.

    3. REFUSE to ride in a 15 passenger van? Right. Sometimes you don't have a choice.

    4. Maybe the onwer should take the time to inspect their van and tires before heading out. Tire Pressure tread all that good stuff. Even better FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS>

  • its sad but 2 be honest i really don't give a fuck so wat ever

  • This is a dumb video. The vans have a high center of gravity. It is made higher by more passengers. If the tires fail they can easily roll. And aone one can be killed. No shit, same as in any other car. If you are in a car that rolls over you can still get killed. You should backup some of your generalizations with stats. The roof won't neccesarily crush to the top of the seats.

  • You can't kill 15 people at once in a car or minivan

  • nope

  • Yes you can. You can kill 15 people in any car... its just not likey.

  • watch me! any car could take out multiple cars and cause a pile up and also no car or minivan can hold or transport 15 people! you jack ass! the companies that drive people in them need to keep up on repairs and service the van for inspections before it goes out on a trip, bad tires can be in any car and even in a suv!

  • Two years ago when I went to North Attleboro High School by riding in a Millis Public Schools school bus car, they had only one 15 passenger van which was a 1996 Ford Club Wagon XLT. The rest were either minivans, generally the Dodge Caravans or a few Ford Aerostars or regular cars like a small Dodge Neon and a Ford Taurus station wagon, along with the Ford Crown Vic bus which are low to the ground.

  • BUS(NOT SCHOOL) lol

  • Are you seriously stupid? Can you not see that the tires on those examples are CLEARLY BLAD and SHOWING THE CORDS? THAT'S why people die in rollovers. The TIRES.

  • I'm sorry but these harsh accidents that happen ya it's harsh, it's terrible, but everyday cars, trucks, vans, buses get in harsh accidents, so they blame the vehicle when the people die in those, btu they don't give major talk about the daily car crashes, semi crashes etc, i think personally it's rediculous that there is so much talk about these, any vehicle can roll over! Drive safe, maintain vehicle, inspect often, right tires, etc and lower speed you'll be fine, good to go!

  • Maybe you should buy quality 8-ply tires and keep them inflated properly. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations and drive safely. Take some personal responsibility.

How many people even read the owner's manual? They put one in every vehicle for

a reason. *Lots of info in there!

  • You do make many valid points. I would like to see how those vans were maitained that rolled, and did they follow the manual specifications?

  • 1st, They have roll stability control now.

2nd, Why the Ford van? Chevy, GMC, Dodge Rams should suffer as well since it's configured the same way.

3rd, It's not a car. So don't drive it like one. I think it's pretty exaggerated that one rolls ever week.

  • Ford E-350 (Econoline) has 80% of the market. Dodge pulled their van off the market. Chevy is the only one that has redesigned the van.

Stability control was added in 2006 and does not affect the 1 million vans already on the market.

  • The Dodge didn't pull their van off the market, they replaced the Ram with Sprinter about 5 years ago.

Despite the Sprinter being the tallest van, they are very stable because of the AES, traction control & the front & rear stabilizer bar.

Watch this demo of an attempt to roll over a Sprinter.

    youtube-com/watch?v=4Rlk3tlAhhE

  • Stabilitrak was added in 2004 on 3500 (1 ton) Express and Savana's. Dodge didn't "pull" the van it was replaced. Chevy "redesigned" in 1996 AND 2003 but still keeping th same 155" wheelbase...

  • @vanrollover bull shit trust me chevy van was no beter then ford your just a chevy fan i kno it and plus you have to say shit like that just to make chevy number one

  • I agree

it also depends on how one drives this type of van

  • Obviously 'VRAJ919'. The problem however, is that these vans are very unforgiving under full load, and in combination with a weak roof structure and side support, they easily become virtual deathtraps.

  • what r u talking about!

my mom worked for a mobile company, they carried passengers and cargo.

  • @pokeeto2 dont bleve him chevy van bad to

  • @CRXJDM88

I'm intechdude300 now. Well I actually forgot this but looking back, I'm still sticking to my comment from 2 yrs ago.

I see these vans being driven liken cars out there even in cargo form. Not a vehicle defect at all, it's a Driver defect. It's easy to see these doing 80MPH+ and cutting thru traffic every day.

  • @Intechdude300 yea i am not saying your wrong or anything but for that kind of van to roll over you have to be drive fast this guy dose not know anything about why they roll over i mean yea a tire going out but like i siad you have to be drive fast and every car roll over when you are drive fast and u have a blow out suv are number 1
