actually my brother owns a frontier and his best friend has a tacoma...the frontier spanks the tacoma off road everytime...most tacomas i have seen off road actually do pretty bad...i wouldnt be affraid to take my 4 banger hardbody anywhere a tacoma would go
any feed back on the 4 cylinder engine? don't do much towing/hauling. it would mostly be used for transporting smaller loads such as furniture, bikes, lawnmowers etc.
towing is the main difference. both the frontier and tacoma have excellent I4's, get the lowest gears available, if there is a choice. if you go with the 4 cylinder and are looking at this and the frontier, i myself would go with the tacoma.
My 09 TRD Off Road Tacoma with A-Trac & locking rear diff would destroy that Nissan. Not to mention the re-sale on a Tacoma is a lot better. Nissan makes a good truck but IMO it’s a poor investment.
@1cipollone they are both good trucks, nissan out powers your Taco. both have same shocks, same diff locks and frontier is more affordable. Why laugh at us when your peddle gets stuck and crashes i will point and laugh.
@05front You don't have the A-Trac or the resale value of a Tacoma not to mention the Nissan super charger pulls weak numbers compared to the TRD super charger. The pedal thing was a scam.
@jasojeep oh atrac, im sorry but if you know how to drive right then you wont need that. and that sc. nissan out powers it. TRD is 304hp, the nissans sc pulls 317 at the wheels and thats with the shitty paper filter. Ok but you also pay more for that TuRD.
@05front That is the dumbest argument I have ever heard. That is like saying you don’t need four wheel drive if you know how to drive.
I’ll be in Moab next weekend if you think your Queer I mean Frontier I’m sorry I get them confused can keep up you’re welcome to join.
P.S. JasoJeep is a user name I’ve had for years, I was a former Jeep owner but have progressed on to other rides while maintaining an open mind. You should try that sometime, keep an open mind.
I think your both kind of stupid, but bragging about the A trac system on the toyota is what forced me from moving onto the next video without correcting you. A trac is toyota's fancy name for limited slip, it goes to all four tires and is brake activated, the frontier seen above has THE EXACT SAME THING, called ABLS (active brake limited slip). you do have better resale, but not by much over the frontier, and the MSRP of the frontier is significantly lower.
God I want this truck so bad. It's a shame auto makers are shying away from mid size trucks. If everyone made a quality truck like this people would buy them. The worst midsize ones are the Ranger(very outdated) and the Colorado/Canyon(Worst P.O.S. redesign ever from GM)
@ Spankybrandonf - I would get the froniter. I wouldn't even want to know how bad the gas mileage would be with the titan's 5.7 v8 not to mention a much bigger tank to fill up. Also depends if you are going to be towing.
@leadnsteel ya agreed, Ive test drove the 5.0L 2009 F150 FX4 which has simular stuff minus offroad shocks, but with this nissian frontier you can actually park in a parking stall, and wont use as much gas, and who actually pulls more then 6500lbs w a half ton anyways, this Nissan works fine!
im on the fence, whether i want the frontier or the titan, they both having locking diffs and skid plates, i guess it comes down to ground clearance and whether i want v8 or v6
windows rattle when rolled down, engine underpowered, rides rough, had to modify a pulley bracket so the belt wouldn't fly off, and I'm probably forgetting a few things. this is good for stock truck but if u wana go off raod then get a Toyota or samurai JEEP is to expensive but if u have the money then go for it i like toyotas better v6 in a toyotas are bad the best engine is 22RE in the Toyota. Dont go out and buy a bran new one go to ebay or craigslist and look at them have TSLS in the front, then have BOOGERS in the back shave each other lug the small ones so your tires wont get clooged up im13 years old. SEND ME A MSG FOR QUESTIONS
ok for a stock truck thats amazing but when u get into it get ur self a toyota tacoma or tundra or 4 runner u tube it out put BOOGERS in the back TSLS in the front u shave the smaller lug between the bigger luggs so your tires wont get cluged up. make sure its fuel injected or run propane so when u get really off u dont stall it. duel transfercase is good so it is geard low.(for the rock crawlers) have good axels get axels before u get BIG tires. so u dont break the axels. This is my thoughte of
@chestermolester33 Sweet! Now if only they could stop when you want them to right? And if only Tacomas didn't have that frame rust issue until '04 when they were made all new... and oh shit those new ones have the same fender crack/split issues that the FJ Cruiser has.... A new Taco is NOT a better truck.
@Dwealdric 2009 tacoma is almost universally accepted as a superior truck.. a few no name, off brand magazines and reviewers favor the frontier... but the tacoma is better built, more power (despite less on paper), smoother, longevity, etc, etc... HAHA how pathetic is that? frontiers have more horsepower and torque, yet they are slower? now what does that say about the manufacturing and quality? hahah
@chestermolester33 A few things for you to ponder... first off you're comparing speed to say which TRUCK is better? Don't make me laugh. Even if I gave a shit about road speed, your logic doesn't wash. Following your logic a Bugatti Veyron (which has more HP and torque) has inferior manufacturing and quality to say the Ariel Atom, because the Atom is faster.
@chestermolester33 Are you f**king kidding me?! The tacoma and frontier are considered equals. Besides that there haven't been very many reviews compared to the two. "Universally accepted" I don't think so. When I shopping between the tacoma and frontier, guess what I bought? A 2009 frontier SE v6 auto, king cab, value truck package brand new for a little under 25000 bucks. Not a single 2009 tacoma with a v6 auto, access cab convience package in the pittsburgh area was going for under 28000.
speed says nothing about quality, it just means that the tacoma is a lot lighter. the frontier, however, does have a higher towing capacity than the tacoma. nobody buys a truck to go fast, they buy it to tow and offroad and carry shit around. so who gives a fuck if the tacoma is faster?
they are both good trucks; but no the tacoma is not universally accepted as the better one. alot of people just blindly buy it just because they love toyota.
@Kenny42581 it aint a 4 cyl, its got a 4.0 L v6 with over 260 hp and 280 tq, holds five people easy and can haul over 6000 lbs, and it gets better gas mileage than a 5.6, 5.7, or a 6.1, sounds like a nice midsize to me
the frontier is the best midsized truck! The 5 cly chevy colorado is crap, ford ranger is in desperate need of a makeover, and the dakota isn't very good for offroading.
i just lost my 05 4x4 nismo crew cab frontier two months ago. my cousin took it without letting me know n crashed it to a tree and flip over landing on the side. another of my cousin has an 05 4x4 TRD tacoma n we both agree that my frontier was the better truck. but my 97 toyota corolla stay had more room in the back sit than my frontier n i'm 5'3.
G Klasse)
Badass truck...the ideal vehicle for the shitty roads in Puerto Rico...especially with those BF Goodrich all terrain tires and that sweet 4.0 VQ engine.
Now that I moved to the continental US, my dad kept it. He says he'll keep driving it until the wheels fall off...haha
ye abut then them the tacos are uncomfy on long trips. and u get more power than the taco. u get even more power when u add all the bolt on stuff. more hp and tq with cai, exhuast kits, headers, chips and blowers. bottem line nissan killed toyota. why did toyota start killing off pwr and tq to their v6???? a brand new frontier vs a brand new taco would cream the shit out of it. it will mop it on the floor and the tbag the shit out of it. so tacos in the end are SHIT!!!!!!
Utes (pickups) aren't exactly good offroad chassis'. The longer wheelbases, uneven weight distribution and the shallower front and rear drop-off angles really limit what you could do when 4x4ing. You want an excellent 4x4? Nissan Patrol GQ is the answer!
oh and to those of you saying that nissan truck are not reliable ... please inform yourselves... they are powered by nissans legendary VQ engine line. one of the most respected V6 engines ever built. my maxima has a vq30 in it and it has handled 250k miles like a walk in the park. i have driven nissan trucks with 200k miles that run like new on origninal motors and transmissions i am a used car dealer and i can tell you nissans and toyota trucks blow away the big three.
nissan frontiers are awsome trucks... right next to the tacomas... i personally like the fontier better because its more comfy to drive and handles more like a truck should. tacomas are too sporty for a truck in my opinion. but by far both are excellent trucks with legendary capabilities. i have owned fords, chevys, toyotas, and nissans and nissan and toyota blow the competition away.
I own a Nissan frontier nismo, Can't say its terrible. I've been muddin many times in it and have never been stuck, of course not the really really heavy mud stuff where you will probably need a lift to get through but I find it very reliable. My opinion though.
I want to see the people that do reviews on trucks REALLY test them. Every truck gets stuck sometimes. I like nissans a lot, but in the eyes of someone that does a lot of 4 wheeling, that video was pretty lame, but thats not the trucks fault.
this is an ok review, most of your average truck buyer will not even take their trucks off road, pro4x frontier has eveything you need, good looks, power, locking diff, and a good price.
Great review Driving Sports! You covered all the bases of why this is a good offroad truck. Plus, you had a little fun doing it. Keep it up and I hope to see more truck reviews.
well both have the rear lockers, i heard the frontier was more comfy. the only thing that really set them apart is the house outet in the tacomas bed. thats just smart.
Noooo, your wrong, Nissan trucks are very reliable and will beat any "domestic" midsize you can think of... I own a 2007 Nissan Frontier Nismo and must say that its the best truck i've ever driven/owned, i chose this over the tacoma for a reason.
Alright, I have one in the family, its a royal piece of junk. Have an uncle also with one. Most of the problems we have had with ours, he has had the same. Things really start getting bad at 100k miles. The newest years might have a few less problems. Really cheap trucks. Almost everything is falling apart or breaking. They do not beat any domestic truck either. I am not wrong, because I have personal experience with them.
The Nissan Titan was an overall failure. Sales wise, it's hardly noticeable amongst other truck brands. In 2010 or 2011, Nissan is stopping production of the Titan. Titan also was plagued with axle and brake problems amongst other quality issues. You are lucky if you haven't had any problems, but then again 90k really isn't that much mileage. Guess it depends how you use your truck also. Good luck though.
wrong they are not stopping production they ended the deal with dodge cause of fiat so after 2011 a new titan will be born, also never heard of a axle problem only brakes but nothing went wrong with my brakes, i use my truck for payload now i use to tow 7000 trailer but not any more.
Thanks for the correction, I hadn't heard the latest news regarding it. Doesn't really change anything, just now there is a possibility that the Titan will go away eventually.
"The decision could lead Nissan to withdraw from the highly competitive and profitable large-pickup segment, one analyst said, though Nissan said it was committed to that market. "
"The Titan is by far the worst-selling full-size truck, accounting for just 1.7 percent of the segment." - New York Times 8/26/09
lol doesn't mean the quality is bad im sure mcdonald sales more meat than your local butcher but guess which has the better quality meat? only reason it lack sales is because lack of configurations some people just want a reg cab or a v6 maybe even a smaller v8 but i guess nissan seen it as they already have a truck with a v6 and they said from the start their mission wasnt to out sale the big 3 just toyota they did but now toyota has a new truck
Nice truck but thats not really difficult offroading, I take my XC70 through far worse several times a month.

what you guys had labeled as hard stuff is a weekend drive in my stock 96 bronco. so how does this thing handle on "REAL" hard stuff?
gr3atday 1 year ago
this is good for stock truck but if u wana go off raod then get a Toyota or samurai JEEP is to expensive but if u have the money then go for it i like toyotas better v6 in a toyotas are bad the best engine is 22RE in the Toyota. Dont go out and buy a bran new one go to ebay or craigslist and look at them have TSLS in the front, then have BOOGERS in the back shave each other lug the small ones so your tires wont get clooged up im13 years old. SEND ME A MSG FOR QUESTIONS
utube4lif3 1 year ago
ok for a stock truck thats amazing but when u get into it get ur self a toyota tacoma or tundra or 4 runner u tube it out put BOOGERS in the back TSLS in the front u shave the smaller lug between the bigger luggs so your tires wont get cluged up. make sure its fuel injected or run propane so when u get really off u dont stall it. duel transfercase is good so it is geard low.(for the rock crawlers) have good axels get axels before u get BIG tires. so u dont break the axels. This is my thoughte of

tacoma is a better truck.. despite having less horsepower it is faster...
chestermolester33 1 year ago
@chestermolester33 Sweet! Now if only they could stop when you want them to right? And if only Tacomas didn't have that frame rust issue until '04 when they were made all new... and oh shit those new ones have the same fender crack/split issues that the FJ Cruiser has.... A new Taco is NOT a better truck.
Dwealdric 1 year ago
@Dwealdric 2009 tacoma is almost universally accepted as a superior truck.. a few no name, off brand magazines and reviewers favor the frontier... but the tacoma is better built, more power (despite less on paper), smoother, longevity, etc, etc... HAHA how pathetic is that? frontiers have more horsepower and torque, yet they are slower? now what does that say about the manufacturing and quality? hahah
chestermolester33 1 year ago
@chestermolester33 A few things for you to ponder... first off you're comparing speed to say which TRUCK is better? Don't make me laugh. Even if I gave a shit about road speed, your logic doesn't wash. Following your logic a Bugatti Veyron (which has more HP and torque) has inferior manufacturing and quality to say the Ariel Atom, because the Atom is faster.
Dwealdric 1 year ago
@chestermolester33 Are you f**king kidding me?! The tacoma and frontier are considered equals. Besides that there haven't been very many reviews compared to the two. "Universally accepted" I don't think so. When I shopping between the tacoma and frontier, guess what I bought? A 2009 frontier SE v6 auto, king cab, value truck package brand new for a little under 25000 bucks. Not a single 2009 tacoma with a v6 auto, access cab convience package in the pittsburgh area was going for under 28000.
senecavallysucks 1 year ago
@chestermolester33 Oh ya and the frontier had the better engine and interior.
senecavallysucks 1 year ago
@chestermolester33
speed says nothing about quality, it just means that the tacoma is a lot lighter. the frontier, however, does have a higher towing capacity than the tacoma. nobody buys a truck to go fast, they buy it to tow and offroad and carry shit around. so who gives a fuck if the tacoma is faster?
they are both good trucks; but no the tacoma is not universally accepted as the better one. alot of people just blindly buy it just because they love toyota.

SMALL truck NOT a midsize!!!
Kenny42581 1 year ago
@Kenny42581 it aint a 4 cyl, its got a 4.0 L v6 with over 260 hp and 280 tq, holds five people easy and can haul over 6000 lbs, and it gets better gas mileage than a 5.6, 5.7, or a 6.1, sounds like a nice midsize to me
2001bmw330xi 1 year ago
the frontier is the best midsized truck!

I would definitely buy another one.

ye abut then them the tacos are uncomfy on long trips. and u get more power than the taco. u get even more power when u add all the bolt on stuff. more hp and tq with cai, exhuast kits, headers, chips and blowers. bottem line nissan killed toyota. why did toyota start killing off pwr and tq to their v6???? a brand new frontier vs a brand new taco would cream the shit out of it. it will mop it on the floor and the tbag the shit out of it. so tacos in the end are SHIT!!!!!!
05front 2 years ago
Utes (pickups) aren't exactly good offroad chassis'. The longer wheelbases, uneven weight distribution and the shallower front and rear drop-off angles really limit what you could do when 4x4ing. You want an excellent 4x4? Nissan Patrol GQ is the answer!
EndangeredSoup 2 years ago
nissan frontiers pro 4x is offered in manual transmission in the extended cab version only. pro 4x crew cabs are all automatic.

oh and to those of you saying that nissan truck are not reliable ... please inform yourselves... they are powered by nissans legendary VQ engine line. one of the most respected V6 engines ever built. my maxima has a vq30 in it and it has handled 250k miles like a walk in the park. i have driven nissan trucks with 200k miles that run like new on origninal motors and transmissions i am a used car dealer and i can tell you nissans and toyota trucks blow away the big three.
rbtracing 2 years ago 4
nissan frontiers are awsome trucks... right next to the tacomas... i personally like the fontier better because its more comfy to drive and handles more like a truck should. tacomas are too sporty for a truck in my opinion. but by far both are excellent trucks with legendary capabilities. i have owned fords, chevys, toyotas, and nissans and nissan and toyota blow the competition away.
rbtracing 2 years ago 4
I own a Nissan frontier nismo, Can't say its terrible. I've been muddin many times in it and have never been stuck, of course not the really really heavy mud stuff where you will probably need a lift to get through but I find it very reliable. My opinion though.
Jaxonguitar 2 years ago
I want to see the people that do reviews on trucks REALLY test them. Every truck gets stuck sometimes. I like nissans a lot, but in the eyes of someone that does a lot of 4 wheeling, that video was pretty lame, but thats not the trucks fault.
jenima20 2 years ago
both truck are made in the US

this is an ok review, most of your average truck buyer will not even take their trucks off road, pro4x frontier has eveything you need, good looks, power, locking diff, and a good price.

well both have the rear lockers, i heard the frontier was more comfy. the only thing that really set them apart is the house outet in the tacomas bed. thats just smart.
just depends what you what. both are awesome

Noooo, your wrong, Nissan trucks are very reliable and will beat any "domestic" midsize you can think of... I own a 2007 Nissan Frontier Nismo and must say that its the best truck i've ever driven/owned, i chose this over the tacoma for a reason.
with no disrespect, me.

I am not wrong, because I have personal experience with them.

punksnotdead543 2 years ago
yeah so my 04 titan has 90k miles on it no problems ever and that's not reliable?
katokimo 2 years ago
The Nissan Titan was an overall failure. Sales wise, it's hardly noticeable amongst other truck brands. In 2010 or 2011, Nissan is stopping production of the Titan. Titan also was plagued with axle and brake problems amongst other quality issues. You are lucky if you haven't had any problems, but then again 90k really isn't that much mileage. Guess it depends how you use your truck also. Good luck though.
ehsheeba 2 years ago 3
wrong they are not stopping production they ended the deal with dodge cause of fiat so after 2011 a new titan will be born, also never heard of a axle problem only brakes but nothing went wrong with my brakes, i use my truck for payload now i use to tow 7000 trailer but not any more.
katokimo 2 years ago
Thanks for the correction, I hadn't heard the latest news regarding it. Doesn't really change anything, just now there is a possibility that the Titan will go away eventually.
"The decision could lead Nissan to withdraw from the highly competitive and profitable large-pickup segment, one analyst said, though Nissan said it was committed to that market. "
"The Titan is by far the worst-selling full-size truck, accounting for just 1.7 percent of the segment." - New York Times 8/26/09
ehsheeba 2 years ago 2
lol doesn't mean the quality is bad im sure mcdonald sales more meat than your local butcher but guess which has the better quality meat? only reason it lack sales is because lack of configurations some people just want a reg cab or a v6 maybe even a smaller v8 but i guess nissan seen it as they already have a truck with a v6 and they said from the start their mission wasnt to out sale the big 3 just toyota they did but now toyota has a new truck
