People hear words such as 'Devil' and 'Hell' because they're looking out for it. It's not really there. None of it is intentional. Its just mumbo jumbo but people look out for words which aren't there, and their subconscious delivers them a familiar word which they assume as truth.

A lil history, not saying the song has backward messages, but, the song was loosely written about the Church of Satan regardless of what any of the Eagles said back in the 70's. The record album even shows a small painting of Anton LaVey, founder of the CoS. The lobby of the "Hotel California" I believe to be apart of the original CoS. Not Certain. But if LaVey was cool enough for people like Marylin Monroe and John Travolta, I'm sure he was cool enough for the Eagles!
