How can anyone make an accurate assessment of a sword's cutting ability when the target used is a soaked beach mat. A $30 stainless steel wall hanger can cut those!
no one could have the skill in my school days from elementary school to high school. since the law and there are quite very little dojos in my country. he drew the long true katana from the capsule and made it straight vertically and cut the bundle of straw. the katana was not made of plastics . no one can do the movement without injured somewhere of his body.
@CiscoTheMan hakama is the name your looking for. and i too were t-shirts with mine bc the top sometimes is in the way or i just dont feel like putting it on
Ok enough of this jack-assery about "disgracing" musashis name by sticking it on a "mass produced" sword. These swords have makers marks, authentic hamons, and are capable of cutting through 2 bodies. Hand made isn't mass produced. I've tested these and they have cut cleanly through 6 inches of green vine maple with ease and grace for $75. Thats pretty damn legendary if you ask me. You find this kind of quality in $200-$300 blades. They are awesome. And the man in this video is an excellent cut!
@Cretaal granted this is the $50 line, which aren't authentic. But for a fake hamon on a factory sword, those are the best damn swords a low budget cutter can expect. My $75 whirlwind model is a miraculous cutter
@Shazzashazbot Miyamoto Musashi was a famous samurai in the early 1600s. He pioneered many of today's Japanese sword arts and his sword had a very iconic Tsuba (guard). These elements make him a popular choice for production swords to be based off of. A "Musashi" katana in this context simply means a sword that is based off of the style of Musashi's katana, typically a normal katana with a double-ring Tsuba. It does not indicate any change in size otherwise.
@Shazzashazbot It's more than likely a coincidence. Musashi was devoutly against large blades that were popular at the time. In his book "The Book of Five Rings", his lifeworks in the art of swordplay, he states that they are cumbersome and unweildly. With that said, his original sword had a blade length of approximately 29 inches, which is about ~2 inches over average, and an 11 inch tsuka which I consider quite conservative.
@surboneandrea because this is a promotional video made for that sword that they have in stock and it costs 50$...I'm sure that he has some more expensive and high quality swords in his collection.
I may not have explained myself very well. I was trying to express my dismay at the name of one of the greatest swordmasters being used to sell a mass-produced sword.
@GozenTomoe dude, its just to demonstrate the ability of sword, i'm pretty sure he doesnt chop wood with that thing. he has an epic beard to prove it.
now what's sad is people buying that sword to chop wood XD
@GozenTomoe Considering that Musashi actually did use his sword to cut wood on several occasions, this statement is hilarious. In 1612, during his duel against Sasaki Kojiro, he used his Daisho to whittle an old wooden oar into a bokken, which he used to defeat his opponent.
To me, there is a difference between a swordmaster using his sword to make a bokken, and someone hacking a piece of wood with mass produced sword which (mis)uses the name of Musashi to make sales.
@GozenTomoe um i really dont know what your arguing about or if you are arguing but the reason why they named the sword Musashi is because the tsuba is a replica of one off the tsuba the Musashi made himself so i guess you dont know as much about him as you say so, also any person that strives to learn about any swordsmanship not only iaido is that its not the sword but the swordsman.

Better to stay silent and assume people think your stupid, then to speak and confirm to people that your stupid.
very poor form, slow and sloppy draw as well as poor breathing. focus on a smooth draw into a strike...one fluid motion keeping the full swing close to the body and pivot the hips and follow with the shoulders. breath in through the nose and out through the mouth breathing out on the strike...do not focus on the draw, strike form or breathing....let it flow naturally...like a heartbeat, breathing etc...without thought.
i was hoping to see this sword in action its from your website and i want to buy it but i want to now wat makes this sword 80 and wat makes the sword in the vid 50 Musashi Wind Dragon Katana (Red Saya)
I have two of those swords. One I keep on my display stand, drawing only to clean and care for it. The other I use. I cut plastic bottles full of water and sometimes fruit. Mainly I do it just to demonstrate the blade to friends, but sometimes I just feel like cutting stuff. Today, for example, I used it to cut an entire twelve pack of soda cans in half in one stroke. Needless to say, it was awesome.
Musashi is probably now spining in his grave hahah... i dont know who teach him that, thats how is supoused to be handling katana, but his technic is soooo bad... and half of videos im been searching on youtube, is some idiots who think they can use katana like some fucking freaking ninjas... im saad:((( Musashi for this cuting does not need katana, but simple a bokken... because, if you know the technics,... crushing a human bone with bokken on the wright spot is like steping on a light ball
@spideycentz dude..really? Does it look like he is going into war or a battle? He is demonstrating a cut. You can't be that ignorant. People collect swords as part of a hobby, not for fighting to the death.
@datseb997 I have dealt with SwordsOfMight before and yes they are very much trusted! they usually ship your sword the same day or after(depending on the cirsumstances), and offer fast shipping for a reasonable price!
@1bol1 If it's the Paul Chen Musashi blade then it's 46" long, about 10" longer than a standard Katana, since Musashi was 6' 4" about 10" taller than an average Samurai :-)
not trying to tell u how to use a katana but if u chock up on the hilt guard as in move ur hand down a little ull be able to have a wider range of movements that flow togeather a lil better but ur pertty good with that one bud
"If you hold a sword with both hands, it is difficult to wield it freely to left and right, so my method is to carry the sword in one hand. This does not apply to large weapons such as the spear or halberd, but swords and companion swords can be carried in one hand." - A Book of Five Rings
@L4DSoulReaper True, one in each hand. That said, many two handed styles are excellent as well, I'm just pointing out a historical inaccuracy regarding this vid. Much respect to all martial artists everywhere!
why cant swordsofmight increase its inventory a bit =[? I mean I waited for months to buy swords from you, but it was never available, and I ended up buying from another website, which had everything available to buy.
i like the website, but it's pretty weird for you to advising to sell what you don't actually have =[
It looks to me like you get a nice claen cut but your using far far too much power and not enough left hand and grace. Also your follow through is overly done, if you had missed a warrior your blade would be too far away from your dantian to be able to protect you.
I am sure your aware of those things but no one else mentioned it so I thought I would.
any true swordsman is a friend of mine, look up icon warrior class swordsman, and whats your deal utube, none of my good work is out there,i need helpwith that, dont know how to use computer, want to share my work with rest of world, alone in dark place right now,the sword is my life, all thats keeping me alive,i cant do this computer thing alone, warrior loves warrior,,,hector
@catlinalden Your a moron, not only are you ignorant and racist but you can't even spell nigger correctly. I laugh at you. I laugh a lot. mwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ahaa hahah hahh ahah hahahh hahhahahahaha haha hah hha h hah ahah hahah...........................hah hah hah ah haha h haha ha hah ahaha ha ahah hah ah
first off that guy needs some pratice. He put the katana into the saya wrong at times and his movements were slow and unbalanced i know that this is just to show the sword's quality but still if the swordsman does not use it properly the sword is useless. and keep in mind that this is a cheap replica of musashi's sword so it will also have less "power" and most likely have some fualts about it but it seems pretty nice.
yeah this sword cuts but thats all it chips easily not very sturdy and doesnt hold an edge very long and this is weird the fittings come tight and are tight when you take the tsuka off then put it back on but after swinging it around or cutting the fitting become loose
no i read the law says you cant ship one into the country but its worth a try i mean say you do and noone finds out then you make sure noone finds out you own it not that hard then you can enjoy owning a nice kat :O
Why not, i can order a katana from japan or anywhere i like to Europe. (Of course there are shops whose policy is that they only work within one country = No product for you)
Britain has a lot of different and complicated weaponry laws set though, so that might be a problem. And the customs are going to be tricky.
what particular style of mushashi is this? is it the bushido, practical daimyo, 1060 stainless, etc etc. because the only 50 dollar mushashi katana i can find is the dragon strike which is 54.99, so i would like to know what model is used in this video.
w/o form and technique you can break your 10k+ dollar nihonto.
I think i can speak for the masses in this matter and add that you maybe a little more pissed off when u break a 10 000+ $ blade, in comparison to when you break a 50$ blade
but even if u did had proper technique im most likely sure the 50$ katana will break within a few months compared to the 10k blade witch will be alive till the ending of time but then again im never going to use a 10k blade ever
Ironic tho, you pay shitloads for quality, yet you wont use the quality at all, no tameshigiris, nothing. Just admire the blade and hand it to the next generation and so on.
its just so beutiful to look at, the layers of the folded steel, the hamon, the sharpness of the blade, heck even if a robber comes into my house the robber is not worth it, ill just take out my practice katana or something

Just another fat idiot on you`tube with a sword in his hand... a word for the wise, having a sharp sword does not make you an expert. Your technique is sloppy, your appearance is soppy and cuts are sloppy. An ape could cut a sausage better with a butter knife.
i recommend putting your blades away, get fit, learn what it is to look after yourself and then, when you have the learnt the value of self respect, try again.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The biggest obstacle to self perfection is self deception. What you perceive as miserable and self righteous is only a matter of your own deluded perception. My results validate my actions, not the hollow, foolish comments of little boys on a website.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Proving myself to you and others is just ego. Showing off my abilities is just foolish pride. Only words they may be, But words have been the most powerful weapon for a very long time. I search this forum looking for information... not to use it as a proving ground just so i can receive hollow admiration from strangers...but i despise nothing more than people who abuse the way.
@TheMistercrowley hahaha wow, I am gunna call you lightening! WHats the point of commenting a year after the conversation had finished? Do you really think that a guitar playing pedophiles words are going to have any impact on me? seriously... comment when you have something useful to say. Punk.
I believe you are much mistaken. The video creator did not claim, nor imply that he was an expert in the martial arts that pertain to swords. Therefore, his "sloppy" technique, appearance and cuts are not relevant.
I recommend toning down the ego a bit, as it makes you appear as an (for lack of a better word) ass. Furthermore, I would advise against predjudice of people with obesity. Most of our society has transgressed beyond that level of ignorance, but it seems you have yet to do so.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ah, at last, an intelligent response. To be honest, I am of the belief my friend that one should not make a show of oneself, no matter the Skill. And by putting yourself on a visual platform like Youtube means you are opening yourself up to criticism by anyone. My comments are aimed to incite a response, but you are mistaken by thinking that it is Ego and Ignorance that fuels them. Instead, I seek those like minded individuals who can see past the deliberate bullshit.
I have no animosity toward you, but you seem to have some toward me. Never claimed to be anything but a guy in my backyard that cuts with products to show that they are functional. Am I a idiot? Certainly not. Can I drop a few pounds? Sure, why not, but I'm completely happy with myself, so your comments fall on deaf ears. Why not use your "knowledge" to uplift others instead of trying to tear them down. I speak for others because from you, I don't want or need anything. God bless you.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
hahaha... Thanks for your comment. I suppose my biggest mistake is assuming that people who study the sword study the way. So i will leave you to your "product".
While I do not argue against the fact that the video creator opened himself up to criticism, I do argue against the fact that your criticism was not relevant to the video material at all.
I'm quite concerned about the notion made by you that states that you "seek those like minded individuals who can see past the deliberate bullshit". From this statement only two conclusions can be drawn:
1. You desire attention from others (could be related to an ego).
2. You seek communication from individuals of whom you deem capable of having an intelligent conversation/debate with you.
While I can do nothing but criticise you harshly in the first case, I will spare myself the time and move on to the second...
If in fact you desire a communication/debate with intelligent individuals, I recommend that you visit a debate community or the like, such as "ConvinceMe". Youtube, of all places, is not the place to execute the aforementioned activities.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
hahahah well i guess you could be right on point two and advice taken. Point one, well, if you knew me personally, then you would know that it just not me. But i can understand your why you would come to that understanding. So let me just say this, i accept your rebuke, and will concede that he (the subject of the video) possibly does not understand that there are those who take the way very seriously. Though i do not percieve myself as a "samurai" i do take the art of killing very seriously. >
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
and simply classifying the sword as a "product" is not only degrading the Sword but being disrespectful to the creator of the sword. To me the sword means life, and death, to give it, and to take it away. But alas, you are right. so i shall meditate on my actions...
Unfettered, it seems to me that you are in fact quite fettered by your ego and your opinions. Yes, the art of killing is a very serious thing because, when implemented, it irrevocably takes a life. But the key words here are 'when implemented'. Have YOU ever taken a life? And as far as swords being products...If they are being massed produced and sold then yes, they are indeed products, no matter the quality. (continued.)
It is up to individuals who are/want to become sword smiths and those who use the swords to turn them into something more than just products. I view my personal swords as more than just that. Why? Because I use them. I've been to the dojo with them, I've performed maintenance on them, I've refitted them. They have taken on a piece of me. But they all started out as mass-produced products. This is not 1800, we are not in Japan and we do not live by the sword any longer. (continued)
That being said, we can still follow the code of Bushido and of the Life Giving Sword. But those are personal choices, and not every person who owns or uses a sword wants to follow those paths. And that is perfectly fine. I am assuming you, like me, claim to follow the code of Bushido. To post up degrading comments as you have is to disgrace your code and to insult your Sensei and the founders of your art, all those who walked this path before you. (continued)
Because of your actions, you are a disgrace to the Way of the Sword and to Bushido itself. Indeed, it is you who needs to re-evaluate your beliefs and opinions before posting hateful and hurtful things and before professing your beliefs. I am not a Christian (I'm Buddhist) but: 'May he who is without sin cast the first stone. Judge not, lest ye be judged.' I am willing to fight for the one whom you have insulted's honor. Will YOU step up to the challenge? Nameste.
crapslinginshinobi, well put. no way i could have said it better myself. these people always wanna put down and trash on people regardless of how good they are and its a disgrace to those who truely live by bushido.
do u live by bushido i try so hard but it is hard to always especialy with all the western culture my mom thinks im stupid all my friends think its stupid tell me is it worth it and o yeah would u reccomend this katana for a begginner
If you really know how to live by the code, it is most definitely worth it. However, you must remember these are modern times, and you must try to integrate the code into the work

not trying to tell u how to use a katana but if u chock up on the hilt guard as in move ur hand down a little ull be able to have a wider range of movements that flow togeather a lil better but ur pertty good with that one bud
countnickoli 1 year ago
"If you hold a sword with both hands, it is difficult to wield it freely to left and right, so my method is to carry the sword in one hand. This does not apply to large weapons such as the spear or halberd, but swords and companion swords can be carried in one hand." - A Book of Five Rings
Musashi said to use one hand, not two.
observationman 1 year ago
@observationman Musashi was also known to dual wield
L4DSoulReaper 1 year ago
@L4DSoulReaper True, one in each hand. That said, many two handed styles are excellent as well, I'm just pointing out a historical inaccuracy regarding this vid. Much respect to all martial artists everywhere!

why cant swordsofmight increase its inventory a bit =[? I mean I waited for months to buy swords from you, but it was never available, and I ended up buying from another website, which had everything available to buy.
i like the website, but it's pretty weird for you to advising to sell what you don't actually have =[

this katana must be sharp as shit, look at the stall of the takami mat at :45
camacaze199 1 year ago
It looks to me like you get a nice claen cut but your using far far too much power and not enough left hand and grace. Also your follow through is overly done, if you had missed a warrior your blade would be too far away from your dantian to be able to protect you.
I am sure your aware of those things but no one else mentioned it so I thought I would.

You cut well, but at the end of kesa giri you must hold your sword stronger.
Ganryu6 2 years ago
first off that guy needs some pratice. He put the katana into the saya wrong at times and his movements were slow and unbalanced i know that this is just to show the sword's quality but still if the swordsman does not use it properly the sword is useless. and keep in mind that this is a cheap replica of musashi's sword so it will also have less "power" and most likely have some fualts about it but it seems pretty nice.
zegan82 2 years ago
yeah this sword cuts but thats all it chips easily not very sturdy and doesnt hold an edge very long and this is weird the fittings come tight and are tight when you take the tsuka off then put it back on but after swinging it around or cutting the fitting become loose

can you buy katanas from america on the internet if you live in england? i dont undestand how it would work
paddy989101 2 years ago
no i read the law says you cant ship one into the country but its worth a try i mean say you do and noone finds out then you make sure noone finds out you own it not that hard then you can enjoy owning a nice kat :O
icychillgrill3 2 years ago
Why not, i can order a katana from japan or anywhere i like to Europe. (Of course there are shops whose policy is that they only work within one country = No product for you)
Britain has a lot of different and complicated weaponry laws set though, so that might be a problem. And the customs are going to be tricky.

what particular style of mushashi is this? is it the bushido, practical daimyo, 1060 stainless, etc etc. because the only 50 dollar mushashi katana i can find is the dragon strike which is 54.99, so i would like to know what model is used in this video.
shinobitech13 2 years ago
Some of his strikes seem like he is using too much strength/power. This is a CUTTING oriental weapon. Not a HACKING medieval sword.
mkkraze 2 years ago
50 dollar katana + 10 dollar wetstone + an hour sharpening it even more
= Cuts like a 600 dollar katana.
Pakkaslordi 2 years ago 2
still breaks like a 50$ katana
ihatefatpeople3000 2 years ago
w/o form and technique you can break your 10k+ dollar nihonto.
I think i can speak for the masses in this matter and add that you maybe a little more pissed off when u break a 10 000+ $ blade, in comparison to when you break a 50$ blade
Pakkaslordi 2 years ago
true say,
but even if u did had proper technique im most likely sure the 50$ katana will break within a few months compared to the 10k blade witch will be alive till the ending of time but then again im never going to use a 10k blade ever
ihatefatpeople3000 2 years ago
Yea, most people (me included) would not even want to use a true nihonto to tameshigiri, it's like raping an beautiful art work
Pakkaslordi 2 years ago
Ironic tho, you pay shitloads for quality, yet you wont use the quality at all, no tameshigiris, nothing. Just admire the blade and hand it to the next generation and so on.
Pakkaslordi 2 years ago
its just so beutiful to look at, the layers of the folded steel, the hamon, the sharpness of the blade, heck even if a robber comes into my house the robber is not worth it, ill just take out my practice katana or something

TheUnfetteredOne 2 years ago
You're a bit of a miserable, self righteous sod, arent you.
Instead of trying to humiliate others who are trying to doing something, why dont you get of your high horse and post a vid of your own??!

The biggest obstacle to self perfection is self deception. What you perceive as miserable and self righteous is only a matter of your own deluded perception. My results validate my actions, not the hollow, foolish comments of little boys on a website.
TheUnfetteredOne 2 years ago

Proving myself to you and others is just ego. Showing off my abilities is just foolish pride. Only words they may be, But words have been the most powerful weapon for a very long time. I search this forum looking for information... not to use it as a proving ground just so i can receive hollow admiration from strangers...but i despise nothing more than people who abuse the way.

TheUnfetteredOne 2 years ago
I have no animosity toward you, but you seem to have some toward me. Never claimed to be anything but a guy in my backyard that cuts with products to show that they are functional. Am I a idiot? Certainly not. Can I drop a few pounds? Sure, why not, but I'm completely happy with myself, so your comments fall on deaf ears. Why not use your "knowledge" to uplift others instead of trying to tear them down. I speak for others because from you, I don't want or need anything. God bless you.

hahaha... Thanks for your comment. I suppose my biggest mistake is assuming that people who study the sword study the way. So i will leave you to your "product".
TheUnfetteredOne 2 years ago
While I do not argue against the fact that the video creator opened himself up to criticism, I do argue against the fact that your criticism was not relevant to the video material at all.
I'm quite concerned about the notion made by you that states that you "seek those like minded individuals who can see past the deliberate bullshit". From this statement only two conclusions can be drawn:
1. You desire attention from others (could be related to an ego).
(continued on next comment).
Oephi 2 years ago 3
Youtube, of all places, is not the place to execute the aforementioned activities.

hahahah well i guess you could be right on point two and advice taken. Point one, well, if you knew me personally, then you would know that it just not me. But i can understand your why you would come to that understanding. So let me just say this, i accept your rebuke, and will concede that he (the subject of the video) possibly does not understand that there are those who take the way very seriously. Though i do not percieve myself as a "samurai" i do take the art of killing very seriously. >

and simply classifying the sword as a "product" is not only degrading the Sword but being disrespectful to the creator of the sword. To me the sword means life, and death, to give it, and to take it away. But alas, you are right. so i shall meditate on my actions...
TheUnfetteredOne 2 years ago
Unfettered, it seems to me that you are in fact quite fettered by your ego and your opinions. Yes, the art of killing is a very serious thing because, when implemented, it irrevocably takes a life. But the key words here are 'when implemented'. Have YOU ever taken a life? And as far as swords being products...If they are being massed produced and sold then yes, they are indeed products, no matter the quality. (continued.)
crapslinginshinobi 2 years ago 6
It is up to individuals who are/want to become sword smiths and those who use the swords to turn them into something more than just products. I view my personal swords as more than just that. Why? Because I use them. I've been to the dojo with them, I've performed maintenance on them, I've refitted them. They have taken on a piece of me. But they all started out as mass-produced products. This is not 1800, we are not in Japan and we do not live by the sword any longer. (continued)
crapslinginshinobi 2 years ago 5
That being said, we can still follow the code of Bushido and of the Life Giving Sword. But those are personal choices, and not every person who owns or uses a sword wants to follow those paths. And that is perfectly fine. I am assuming you, like me, claim to follow the code of Bushido. To post up degrading comments as you have is to disgrace your code and to insult your Sensei and the founders of your art, all those who walked this path before you. (continued)
crapslinginshinobi 2 years ago 4
Because of your actions, you are a disgrace to the Way of the Sword and to Bushido itself. Indeed, it is you who needs to re-evaluate your beliefs and opinions before posting hateful and hurtful things and before professing your beliefs. I am not a Christian (I'm Buddhist) but: 'May he who is without sin cast the first stone. Judge not, lest ye be judged.' I am willing to fight for the one whom you have insulted's honor. Will YOU step up to the challenge? Nameste.

Pakkaslordi 2 years ago
If you really know how to live by the code, it is most definitely worth it. However, you must remember these are modern times, and you must try to integrate the code into the work
