@BritishBeliever No. If you try to go to "Valle de los Caídos" in Spain, El Escorial, you get to hear Gregorian Chant. Oh, I almost forgot - it's Roman Catholic.
I think this a fitting song for the age of empires where Catholic and Protestant countires fought over religion and many were tortued for thier Protestant beliefs. These were religous times Mes amis...
@DuPuieproductions Uh... Catholics were also tortured for their "Catholic" beliefs. Catherine of Braganza did not end up in jail, tortured and killed because she was married with a good and may I say fair husband (Charles II).
@DuPuieproductions Not only to say it would have been a political disaster for the UK if they had killed a Portuguese princess (try not to forget that the XVIII century was the second golden age for Portugal - being Portugal the richest country in Europe, under John V, the Magnanimous).
Well, guess it's just tryin' to be accurate to the era I suppose.
I mean sure, it should have marching music if you're in a battle (and it does...). But when you're in the campaign map, this is the perfect sorta thing to have playing.
the music for Rome Total War and Medieval II felt really brutal and made you really feel like you were in that era. Sadly this game seems to have only 2 major battle themes and a bonus one if your in the Indian continent
I agree. The games that have been coming out over the last few years have had excellent soundtracks - the Dawn of War and Total War series are just two examples.
yeah but in europe we we're still duking it out over who's interpretation of the bible was right, and whether it was the local government or the catholic church who had the final say in matters of faith ;>
It's just my opinion, but they really did terrible on this music this time around. The 18th century wasn't known for gregorian chant, irish pipes, etc. It was known for baroque music and the like.. CA Had Rome and Medieval 2 on target, music that isn't exactly accurate but had the FEELINGS of the period captured, Empire fails to do this. This is not the spirit of the 18th century.
Yeah; ME 2's music was fantastic. They did capture the feeling of the different cultures well, I think.
Although, I like Empire's soundtrack as well. One complaint about Empire, though, is that the battles don't sound as dramatic or real as in ME 2. In Empire, there is no shouting when a cavalry charge is launched. To me, that takes away from the immersion of the battles.
very true. they should have mozart, beethoven etc etc. another thing they should have done was add military marches for every nation that has them. it would really give some character (plus get you pumped :P ) for example play preussens gloria for the prussians or the yorckscher marsch.. have he march "the british grenadiers" for the british etc etc. that would be spectacular.
@PurePerfection Couldn't disagree more. ;) I think as always, CA has done a GREAT job on the music (not so much on the rest of the game, though). And it IS the spirit of the 18th century. The church still played an imporant role in everyday life for most people ... it wasn't just all about Beethoven and Mozart.
this is pretty awesome...but yeah, really doesn't feel like the XVIII century...
anyway, i've only been playing with some music mods...the irish pipe tunes really annoy me nowadays....lol

Nice, but it doesn't really suit the time period of Empire, would have been excellent for Medieval though.

What I'm most pissed about is this wasn't written by the guys at Total War. It's an old gregorian chant.

The music from game soundtracks is so underrated!

well, the music is great. But a total war game should have more brutal music. More marching sort of music, with a drum playing.

I might disagree. For a map campaign where politics take role, I think this music is just right. Now a battle is a different story...

@TotalWarEra Not really for when you're on the campaign map dealing with diplomacy and whatnot

@TotalWarEra As this is a campaign map piece, I think it does great in delivering proper atmosphere. Brutal should be reserved for battles.

@TotalWarEra During battles maybe, but not necessarily on the campaign map. :)

you're right, they could've done better then this...
battle music is slightly better, but not similar to the level of RTW and M2TW

Yeah, I like this chant, it's rather pleasant, but as stated I don't think it fits with the 18th century, this belongs in Medieval. =)

Although I totaly agree with you, Preußens Gloria was written in 1871, after the victory in the French-German war, way after the era in the game.
