  • ohh that is so suckkk....Cheap... they is mAde In CHINA or USA or Mexico something... my Computer is TOSHIBA proudcet of CHINA as MADE IN CHINA!! still good... than gateway i am very luck... i not buy anything gateway so Crap... keep failing??

  • I will buy this from you...let me know if you're interested.

  • i have a dell lcd moniter that has lasted almost 8 years and could last 8 more!

u should really burn that and buy dell everything

  • @superfanman11 My new one is dell and it works great.

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie Dude, your monitor sucks and is very old!

  • i have an acer monitor and i still have it working since 2009

  • you shouldn't buy from gateway period

  • I had the same problem with my Gateway HD1900 19 inch monitor. No one at Gateway or Acer or their website could help. Here is the kiker though I was told that this monitor had a 3 year warrenty and it failed 10 days before thaty was out. still no help. Luckily I am an electronics tech. I found a bad cap after a little research and for a 5 dollar part and an hour of work I got it working. I still called Gateway corporate headquarters and reemed them out.

  • ya i have a samsung sync master 931b year 2006 and it still works :)

But Upgrading to a new one what brand s i get

  • Samsung is the best way to go

  • @Smithtss Agree that their monitors are better quality overall. Interestingly though the lcd panel in this monitor was made by Samsung. The "panel" is one part of many.

  • @Smithtss Agreed on Samsung. They make some real high quality electronics. Even my old phone of theirs still works and it's been through hell. My Samsung monitor still gives me a beautiful picture 2 years later. Gateway just has a plethora of hardware issues on all of their products.

  • BUY MORE WARRENTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A friend of mine gave me an HX2000 gateway screen because he didn't know what to do with it since the screen went black, after hooking it up to several different towers I realized that I could still see the images on it, but only if I held it at an angle. So it's still kinda usable tried to do some research to see if anyone could fix it locally but no one seems to want to try go at. So I'm kinda in the same boat, I might just sell it for parts.

  • Wish i had saw this before cause i have the same problem but mine once had green pictures then black out and now it has no signal every time, even though All my wires are perfectly put in place.

  • DO NOT BUY lg flatron w1934s!! world most stupid monitor :|

  • Thanks for the video. I've had problems with Gateway before and after playing "footsie" with them with no tangible results, I went to the Attorney Generals office, consumer affairs division and it seems to have "motivated" Gateway to resolve ALL my issues with haste .... I would advice everyone to give it a try and it costs you nothing

  • sorry for your horrible experience!

but thanks for the heads up!

    cheers!

  • Ouch, that really sucks. Glad I know not to buy gateway. At least not without extended warranty

  • Ouch!!

they pulled this monitor i only see 24" now on the website. i have had a few monitors since 2002. My gateway monitor has been my highest quality visually but maybe the hardware is cheaper nowadays .I always told my friends its a great quality monitor LOL

  • THIS IS A LITTLE LATE BUT DID YOU PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD? IF SO, MOST CREDIT CARD COMPANIES DOUBLE THE WARRANTY OF ITEMS YOU PURCHASE USING THERE CARD.. THEY DO NOT LIKE TO MAKE IT WELL KNOWN SO YOU HAVE TO CALL AND CHECK.. SAVED MY BROTHER OVER $1000.00 ON A CAR REPAIR.. WORD TO ALL ALWAYS PAY WITH A CARD THAT DOUBLES THE WARRANTY....

  • i got a compaq laptop and its still under warranty and those muther fukers wont fix my broken screen. I hope compaq burns in hell.

  • I got a Gateway 19" 900G had it for 4 years now now getting a hissing noise and flickering, so looks like all gateway monitors go the same way. But this one has done well considering on yours! Hope you got yours sorted out.

  • broken monitor... broken heart

  • never heard of Gateway...

  • I can buy what i want!!!

  • Gateway is the label on the moitor but Gateway does not make it they just support it.

  • if there is a class action lawsuit I'm definitely in on it. Contact me at nickruta@aol.com

  • I own this monitor too, I took great care of it and had the same problem as this guy. Its ridiculous. I cant belive in America somebody can sue McDonalds for making coffee too hot but we can all get together and sue GATEWAY!!! WE NEED TO UNITE AND SUE!!!! I dont want a fortune or anything extra just my money back or a working product. This is a blatant smack in the face of the customer.

  • @FernandaSL21 I agree 100%! I'm not trying to get rich, I just want my money back that they stole. It's a clear case - we could easily win.

  • Stay away from Gateway products! I have bought my last Gateway. My 22" Gateway model LPD2275W LCD monitor went bad due to bad capacitors. Their product support sucks! If it's out of warranty you are just SOL. Like the original poster, Gateway just referred me to their third party parts suppliers. I sent each of them an email and none of them have the parts I need to fix my monitor. I will buy Dell from now on. No more Gateway for me!

  • THE SAMSUNG 305T USES THE SAME CHIP AT LEAST GATEWAY PUT IT ON RECALL SAMSUNG DIDNT! I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM 3 FUCKIN TIMES!! I FILED COMLIANT ANS STILL STRUGGLIN FOR A REFUND!!!

  • @kadmiri420 There is no recall for the gateway.

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie - I think I know how you can repair this Monitor....I am not a tech. for LCD monitors....but I have fixed a few before and some DVD players, motherboards, and power supplies....just by simply replacing the bad caps (Capacitors)....i would recommend getting them from parts-express....for the amount and price you be willing to spend.... :)

  • Also, if it is bad caps....I would just get high temp ones and go up on the voltage a little...but same the same on the (uF's)

  • @kadmiri420

I have 2 friends who haave the XHD3000 and they both did this....and i quietly laughed as I had the Samsung 305T.....who's laughing now......not me as I have no recently joined the club....sigh.

  • The issue is an over heating scaler chip. Replace the chip, and add fans so it doesn't overheat.

  • This could be the fault of the Graphic which happen to me with all green and fix it by buying a new videocard. Then again it could be the monitor.

  • OMG! I just had the same problem for 3 days now...... starts off with the flickering green then the whole screen is covered in green... sometimes it fixes itself but seriously? crappy customer service with no way to repair.... I'm out $1800 GG gateway, I hope you die in a fire.

  • i had the samething happen 1 week i had it for 1 year

  • I know a guy that can fix the banding issue on the 30" monitor in MOST cases. If you are interested, contact me at sure-power@nc.rr.com. His rates are reasonable and his work is excellent.

I also repair Gateway monitors myself, (up to 24") but haven't worked on the 30" yet.

  • I had a friend who's gateway monitor went out a week before the warranty was up. They replaced it with a bigger slightly beter model but he didnt even get a year out of it, not sure what model he had. On the other hand my Gateway HD2201 is 6months old and going strong, but really not liking what I have been hearing about Gateway.

  • u saved me money

  • the thing thats true is that why give a 1 year warrenty that just tells the buyers it only would last good for only 1 year gateway pc on the other hand inproved with windows 7 becuase vista was not the best \. gatway pc normally the dx4831-01e best computer i seen for the price and i heard it lasts very well. acer monitors are the best #1 choice for many computer users thanks 2 you i am saving what would have been a waste of money from buying the 20 inch gatway hx2000 monitor

  • @EmptyGamer acer and gateway are the same company now. you might check out other brands.

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie

Acer and gateway the same company..... Gateway monitor trashes not even a year through? Yeah, that seems about right. I had the misfortune of owning a LAPTOP, can't imagine what a monitor by them is like.

  • I just got hit with this same green banding problem on my XHD3000 as well. It seems as if huge numbers of these monitors are failing, and it's awful that Gateway isn't standing behind them. Honestly for as expensive as these were, there should be a class action suit against the company.

  • i wish i saw this before i bought mine... now i have loads of issues myself... xhd300 was a nice monitor when i first bought it now i kick myself in the ass daily for it

  • @unknownuser200985 sorry to hear that you were affected by it as well. This is the biggest lemon I ever bought.

  • did you try it on another computer. It could be your graphics card

  • Oh, man. I have had this monitor for 1 year 3 months and I'm getting blue banding, just like this. Hideous. I sympathize and I'm never buying Gateway again.

Oh, and I'm a datacom tech for a major firm in Western Canada. Guess what my recommendation is going to be when we need to upgrade systems? Thanks, Gateway.

  • this is why i buy apple products, they are popular and 1 word of a faulty product in the press they help you immediately.

  • avoid a gateway period. hate their pc's, hate their laptop pcs, and hated their monitors.

i know people that live off gateway for all computing, but they suck SHIT!

want something good, get an Acer, HP, Sony or Lenovo. never had a problem with any of those (least the ones in XP/Windows 7 model, Vista models all had problems)

  • @Sharod101 Acer owns Gateway

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie

    I'm sorry, i meant Asus.

i find their laptops relatively reliable, they do happen to make things like the motherboards and whatnot for Sony, so i classify them as reliable. i haven't used one for longer than a week, but the week i used it was a pretty good experience.

  • @Sharod101 Yep, my experience with Asus has been good as well.

  • @Sharod101 don't get Acer - they bought Gateway so now you never know if you're getting something good or CRAP.

  • Yeah my Gateway XHD3000 monitor was absolutely fabulous while it worked but it died a slow death and now doesn't even turn on anymore! This is ridiculous. Anybody want to join in a class-action lawsuit to force Gateway to get these things repaired or replaced? Anthony Maw, Vancouver, Canada

  • Smash it and video it

  • I have an XHD3000 monitor have the flickering problem. Monitor is in pristine shape no scratches. Any takers? Make me a resonable offer!

  • back in 2006 i bought a gateway computer which has always been great but today 3 25 10 its monitor failed and has only a dim white screen oh well it has worked great for four years and its good i have a laptop as a spair

  • @notascrub2002 wow 4 years has to be a record!

  • thanks for the heads up man

  • I was considering a Gateway for my next purchase but this is the worst customer service I ever heard of.

    Thanks for the video man.

  • @Keskin1975 Yeah don't do it. Watch out for Acer as well. They are the new owners of Gateway.

  • I have the same monitor as well (XHD 3000).

Yesterday after turning the unit on I noticed the same problems as well.I purchased an extended warranty "2 year Bronze" through "Micro Center" here in California. The warranty is supposed to start after the MFG runs out,I purchased the unit on 09/08 so the MFG warranty ran out 09/09 which means the extended warranty should last until 09/11 I will be dropping the unit off this afternoon at the service dept this afternoon at Micro Center.

  • If anyone here has a broken Gateway XHD3000 30 LCD screen and is trying to get some of your lost investment back I will offer you $200 on PayPal and have UPS come to your location and pick it up at my expense. I am only interested if your screen is displaying symptoms of the infamous flickering or strobe light problem and the screen its self is in good physical condition. Please have the original manufactures packaging as well and feel free to email me on here if you want some more info.

  • I have this monitor and about a month ago, I got the flickering issue. I bought the 3 year warranty, which still has a year a half left on it. I am trying to get Acer to fix it now. By the looks from this thread that wont be easy. Aslo, to totally shut down the graphics card commentary, the monitor has the flickering issue even when it is NOT attached to a computer.

  • The problem has nothing to do with ones graphics card the problem is the LCD Controllers are slowly cooking themselves to death and after about a year just crap out totally. Most likely you will get your money back as the part to repair these things are literally worth their wight in gold. So consider your self lucky as most people are stuck with out a monitor and out al ot of money.

  • @Johnboy19435601

    any takers?

  • If anyone is interested in selling there broken XHD3000 to try and recoup some of there lost investment please shoot me an email and I will discuss purchasing it from you money sent via PayPal of course.

    Thanks,

    John

  • Make an offer for it. :)

  • Average selling price on eBay is between $150 and $175 that being said I will offer $200 via PayPal and UPS pickup service so all you have to do is box it up.

  • I have the same problem and started yesterday. I bought my Monitor in december 2009.

The gateway center for repairs is:

    Gateway Repair Center

    10986 N.W. H.K. Dodgen Loop,

    Temple, TX 76504

I am going to complaint and trying to get a new monitor. 1st. you file a complaint with consumer affairs dpt. with the San Jose Attorney general office. 2nd. Write letter to all executives 3rd See what happens.

Gateway has dropped its quality to the floor. Good Luck

  • What was the screen manufactured ?

  • Comment removed

  • As far as why they stoped manufacturing them well I do know know the answer to that. Keep in mind that my unit is only 13 months old so I wont know if I am really out of the woods for atleast another month because people claim that they fail between the 12th and 14th month of ownership. I can only guess that they might have pulled them because Gateways lawyers might have been afraid that this evidence might come to light (the changes I noted between the 2007 and 2008 models and a potential

  • for a lawsuit and the decision was made that by pulling the line they could have plausible deniable of knowing about this problem.

  • Comment removed

  • Totally agree with the don't buy Gateway monitors sentiment. I bought an FPD2185W brand new a few years back for over $500. Within 6 months of purchase it had a green vertical stripe in the center of the screen constantly. Called Gateway and got a replacement, which they failed to tell me was out of warranty after 30 days. 6 months later the replacement monitor wouldn't turn on. I've been stuck with a broken monitor for over a year now. Don't buy a Gateway monitor, period.

  • I will confirm that what Johnboy1943560 said is in fact correct. . I too have purchased a used XHD3000 monitor on eBay which came plagued with this problem and have made the same diagnosis some time ago. The big fat problem is getting the controller board which Samsung will not sell. But to dispel any myths - if you do get a new board it will fix your problem. I have in fact fixed my monitor by getting a cheap XHD3000 that had a crappy lcd screen (pressure marks) and doing a controller swap.

  • the heat coming off of the LCD Controller Card to dissipate over a much larger surface area then those XHD3000 manufactured in 2007 when they started to make this change exactly is something I have yet to nail down but there is defiantly a change from the November 2007 model I own and the one that is still working manufactured in June of 2008

  • So after discovering this with the broken model that I purchased on eBay the first thing I did today as crack open my Good XHD3000 that was manufactured in June of 2008 and is still working good as new and I noticed something. They have added a thermal interface pad onto of where the thin metal cover that goes on top of the LCD Controller Card its self and the metal casing that the Main board and other components are screwed into there by allowing

  • If the 2008 models work with no problems, why did they stop selling this monitor?

  • As of right now mine is good as gold I have added an active cooling system using some cooling fans that I purchased online as a precautionary measure ! The fans have reduced the temperatures substantially. Before the area around the LCD logic card was around 135F now it doesn't go past 110F I have photo's of my customization to my XHD3000 and will be happy to share them with anyone that asks me for them. I would have posted on here but they don't allow links.

  • 145 Fahrenheit and thats with the ESD tape removed from the vent holes unlike how it was shipped from the factory so I can see the temps reaching a scorching 160 F when used as is shipped from the factory. Its no wonder these boards are failing so quickly 160F is hotter then alot of CPU's run and they have active cooling but the Gateway XHD3000 does not !

  • I took apart the broken XHD3000 that was manufactured in November of 2007 that I purchased on eBay a week ago last night, and this unit is experiencing the display flicker symptoms you are all experiencing. I noticed that the symptoms seemed to get worse as the LCD Heated up !!!! I was curious as to just how hot the LCD Controller card was getting as it was very warm to the touch so I took a thermometer that's built into a voltage meter that I own and the temp got to an astounding

  • Im unsure of where in the world all this cost of a scam is coming from because I dont recall ever asking anyone for a single penny lol . Anyways the problem will most likely happen again because even if you did get the board replaced from Fry's Repair the same process will happen again as before. I have long suspected that the root cause of these failings was due to the LCD Controller overheating and I think I have found proof of my theory tonight. Please see next post for more !!!

  • Same thing happened to me bro, I bought a Gateway 21" HD LCD monitor in August 2006 for about $500. Sure enough, in late 2007, just a couple of months after the warranty expired, it showed lines across it, and then started flickering like that. What a waste of money!!! F*** Gateway!!! I will never buy anything Gateway again, and everyone, AVOID IT!!!

  • Go with hp mine's been going four/five years and Ive never had a problem with it. It works great with dell.

  • Hello everyone well I have some potentially good news. I believe I have located the part needed to fix the problem that all these XHD3000s seem to be experiencing. If you want more information please feel free to email me at here and I will send you an email with more information.

    Thanks,

    John

  • @Johnboy19435601

Can anyone verify this is legit and not just another guy claiming he has something so he can take our money? In my experience, these "fixes" last about a month before you're right back where you started. I hate to be a pessimist, but it is the unfortunate truth.

  • I'm taking it as a scam. If he wanted to help he should have shared more details.

  • I am right now I just have been somewhat busy this weekend please check my Xanga site under the username of XHD3000Repairguy for more information

  • Hey would you guys mind posting the Month of manufacture for your XHD3000's I ask that only those who have experenced failure reply at this time!

    Thanks

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie My impression as well. How has your monitor been since Fry's repair?

  • Comment removed

  • I have three of these monitors. The first one I purchased has recently started to strobe. It is of course out of warranty and given everyone else's experience I would not expect Gateway to support it even if it were not. Gateway has proven they are not to be trusted and will be actively blacklisted by me every where I review.

  • Sorry to here that.. The saga on this continues.

  • who was the repair shop that wanted 500 to fix it. i am willing to pay that amount to get mine fixed. mine had the same issues after 1 year and 2 WEEKS!!!!!

  • @MethodzLA its not worth it for $500. Factor in a 30 day warranty on only the repair as well.

  • i might be willing to go for it. i rather gamble that 500 in fixing this than have an (i paid full msrp) 2k paperweight in my closet. i'm located in southern california, if the place is local i may send it in.

  • Fry's Electronics was the only one willing to attempt to repair the monitor only because I bought it there. It cost me around $80 for them just to look at it and then $450 something for the repair. 30 day warranty on the repair only. Wasn't worth it to me.

  • Just happened to me, and now after looking around it looks like I'm screwed like everyone else. I will never buy anything from Gateway again.

LOL at taking anything to Geek Squad - no use making your problems worse.

  • Dell Ultrasharp 3008WFP Rev 0.3 is what I purchased. I'm selling my Gateway before it dies. I've always loved the Dell Ultrasharp's vivid colors the most. Gateway's colors on the 30" look faded and lifeless.

Infact, i had to calibrate the colors on the Gateway with my Spyder3 Elite just to get any real notice in color. Gateway's shit is a joke! I'm sure once I get my Dell I'll be set.

  • Same exact thing here..... We need to form together and file a class action lawsuit!! Gateway knows of this problem and is simply ignoring this problem. We need help.... $1800 for a piece of scrap! Chiitty are you kidding me??? NO direct sunlight, trust me when you spend close to $2k on a monitor you protect and pamper it! This is a defective series that was discontinued by gateway for this very reason and they are doing nothing to assist the people they scammed!

  • Hey CreativeOutletHobbie,

How do you compare the color, brightness and sharpness when your Gateway 30" did work compared to your new Dell Ultrasharp 3008WFP? which is better? And is your Dell monitor version: A03?

  • Hands down the Dell is much better. Color wise the gateway had a little more saturated colors, but somewhat oversaturated. It did visually look good in games. The dell has more color settings that you can play with. I have the newer version of the dell and haven't had any problems with it. if your evaluating buying them...don't look at the gateway for any reason.

  • The exact same thing just happened to me last night. I am furious and will never buy Gateway again. I wish there were a class action suit. Normally, I hate lawsuits, but so many failing this way? Something's up. Shame, Gateway! Shame! I'm so glad I switched to Apple last year. Wish I had bought an Apple monitor.

  • Any chance you want to sell your broken XHD3000 to try and get some of that lost money back ? If so let me know and I will offer you the same amount I did for CreativeOutletHobbie

    Thanks,

    John

  • Man that's sad. These gateway monitors seem to be pure shit.

"Yeah, let's give it thousands of functions but no functionality." :-P

  • have you looked at best buy? im sure geek squad would be able to fix it there and i think telus even has there own computer repair thing too

  • @ryguyrocker are you trolling? never go to geek squad! Those kids have no idea what is going on

  • really well at least where im from they do what i need just fine iv never had a problem

  • Comment removed

  • i have a brand new 22 inch gateway monitor and i think it's AMAZING

  • Umm hello extended warrenty!! did the monitor get extensive sunlight or something spilt on it?

  • ok so um this video is pointless , the warranty is your fault...

  • That doesn't make any sense.

  • I've got the same problem with the same monitor. I sent it to Gateway for repair 2 months ago, it came back working, and has just now started flickering again. They have bad capacitors on the inverter board apparently. It's a great monitor but they don't sell them or service them out-of-warranty for some reason.

  • Interesting. Did you see the bad capacitors yourself or is that just what they told you?

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie

This seems to be a common problem with a lot of Gateway monitors, people with the 22" monitor with this problem replaced some capacitors inside with some success.

  • gateway monitors are awsome just becasues yours broke doesnt work doesnt mean they make bad monitors, i have the 22" model and its great

  • @splice247 I use to think the same until.. Really the point here is that Gateway will in no way shape or form stand by you if something breaks. They no longer make a quality product.

  • Sell it on ebay someone would pay for it. I think I could fix it if you sell it to me on ebay.

  • Gateway should be shot for pulling that shit! LCD's are suppose to last for years mate. I'm glad you picked up a Dell Ultrasharp which won't have issues like shitty Gateway. A Gateway to failure!

  • yeah a disaster.. Good luck with yours.

  • Did you also try another video card? I'm running nvidia 295 GTX QUAD SLI with no problems. Prior to that I was running NVIDIA 280's in Tri-SLI with no problems.

  • yeah dude read through the comments. multiple video cards tried.

  • Question, did you at first start getting a very light almost unseen flicker? I know when I see web pages with all white I notice a small ficker. When I'm on my desktop or in game mode I don't see it. What were the beginning sings of failure for you? And what are the signs of progressing failure I need to know? I'm on my 1 year mark so I'm hoping I have a revised version of this monitor. I hope my monitor doesn't take a shit after this post.

  • It didn't really progressively stop. I think it was just after a machine reboot. The monitor just started doing it.

  • Did you ever find a company to fix your monitor?

  • Nope, not for a reasonable fee. Nothing less than $400-$450.

  • and only with a 30 day warranty on the specific repair.

  • shit =/

  • Are you sure it's not your graphics card?

  • I bought four monitors LCD Gateway XHD3000 of 30 inches and they work to me perfect I have not had problems

  • Consider yourself lucky.

  • When did you buy them? Expect them all to fail at some point.

  • I bought them a year ago, in January of 2009 by NEWEGG and still they work perfectly without no defect.

  • Looks like a voltage surge took it out.

I have 3 gateway FHD2400 and there 3+ years old, they run 24-7 and I have had '0' issues and there the best looking most versatile sub $750 monitor on the planet at the time of purchase.

"Ever heard of a surge protector"?

  • lucky enough my 22inch Gateway monitor hasnt died yet and its been a year and 8 months. I feel sorry dude. I been having the BSOD with Windows Vista 64 and had to upgrade to Windows 7 and the Blue screen is gone. I still dont know for how long. I have the Gateway 7026 PC

  • i've got the 24 inch version of this monitor. It was the best on the market when i bought it. Now exactly 2 years later It's a brick, no fault of my own. I contacted tech support and they told me I was beyond warranty and that nothing could be done one their side. They didn't even offer to have me send it in for repair which is what I was expecting. They told me in few words, "Sucks to be you."

  • This is not a problem of the graphic card ? looks like memory badblocks

  • definitely not the graphics card

  • yeah i have see a lot of other comments in internet about ppl with the same problem, sounds very bad! and very sad of course. Unfortunately looks like to be a good quality monitor (in graphics quality i mean, colors, etc)

  • i know this post is old. but have you complained to consumer report?

if you can manage to get all the people who have this problem to consumer report maybe something can be done.

  • No just to gateway and better business bureau, both were a waste of time. Good idea on consumer reports, but gateway appears to have already pulled the product from the market.

  • hmm it doesnt hurt to try..plus you can sue the company if you have enough people to gather.

  • I had a different issue, but same results. I have a boat anchor. Mine is left side black, right side ok. Gateway will not help, nor will they even sell me a service manual so I can try to fix myself. Anyone know how to take it apart? I'd like to replace the backlight, I think thats my issue. Sorry for your issue though, those caps sound like a good thing to replace for yours.

    Thanks,

  • Sorry to hear that. What a waste with this monitor.

  • Looking this video looks like a problem with the graphic card, sure that this is not the cause ?

  • Hey i got an idea. Why dont yall find somebody else who owns one and make sure their warranty is still active. And convince them to use the warranty against gateway. It will be your monitor they turned in for complaints. That way you get a new one and the person have they good one...That might work if serial numbers or proof of purchase are not checked....

  • These Gateway moniters say SAMAUNG inside when you work on it, and you will or toss out!!'The capacitors they use are cheap Chinese made junk ! that fry in 2 years max! 1st it will run warm to touch ! then power button freezes, requiring unpugging! thensoon poof! , it can be fixed apparently ,I have taken mine apart and desoldered 8 47uf 25 v caps, Radio Shack has 470uf 35 v , allegedly ok , even better cushion!!? I will post when ever done with my results!

  • I have the fpd 2185wGateway moniter, They are actually Samsung when you open it up!There is about 8 capacitors clustered on the power board, that are cheap electrolytic type lowest bidder part that fails around 1-2 years, I have used mine less than 2 years and it began failing to turn off or on w/out replugging 115v power every time! finally poof zippo! I removed power boaed and found 3 of 8 large caps swollen tops, 2 smaller caps acrosss board are what makes big ones fail

    best to change all

  • It doesn't sound like we had the same original problem though.

  • Thanks for tellin me now I got one and it broke :(

  • wow thx man you save my life

  • 1 year and 2 months after I purchased it. Luckly or so I thought I bought 4 year extended warrenty from Best Buy as it was an open box purchase. Twice it has been sent in for repairs and both times it's come back not fixed it's in now for it's 3rd attempt...I'm not holding my breath..if it comes back broken Best Buy says they will give me a store credit minus the $220 I paid for the 4 year warrenty.

  • if it comes back broken Best Buy says they will give me a store credit minus the $220 I paid for the 4 year warrenty. I simply lost it as a store credit for $1000 is not going to get me a Dell 30' ...and they want to rip me for the remainder of the warrenty is BS.

  • Do not buy Gateway montiors..do not buy Best Buy extended warrenties...they are garbage. It's been 2 months in for repairs and I have to wait another 3 weeks yet before I could even be offered a credit. Not impressed to say the least.

  • Hey man I have the exact same problem. I am 3 months out of warranty and Gateway refuses to allow me to ship it into them for repair at my expense. If you find any addition info about how to fix this problem send me a message, I'll do the same for you.
