the queen elizabeth 2 was on the closedown due to it being her 40th anniversary of her coronation.

The BBC1 Christmas ident for that year was considered to look too jolly to be played with the National Anthem so it was decided that a photograph of Her Majesty be shown instead at closedown during this period.
