Slow lorises can produce a toxin which they mix with their saliva to use as protection against enemies. Mothers will lick this toxin onto their offspring before leaving them to search for food. The toxin is produced by glands on the insides of their elbows. The lorises suck it into their mouths and deliver it when they bite or lick. Loris bites cause a painful swelling, and the toxin is mild and not fatal.

yeah very cute but, the slow loris is the world's only poisonous primate. Its venom is stored in an elbow patch: the loris will suck in the poison from the patch, then mix it around in its mouth before delivering a toxic bite.

@Fubar, what you are saying is unfortunately true, it happens to this species and the abuse is done by barbarians who catch and sell them in japan. it is really sad and this has to stop! i dont think, however, that the people who own this one would harm him in any way. he obviously has found a loving home. what happens to them before being bought is the problem

It's not illegal in Russia, and by saying this, that means you have to claim that house pets such as cats, dogs, fish, birds and others should also be left in the wild. There are other hypocritical and ignorant statements in your comment but I don't feel like getting into that.

Anyways, the entire argument I'm trying to point out is that, even though you claim this seems very wrong to you, you may be a hypocrite about the situation. That includes housing an animal, eating animals, or, really, anything to do with them, is hurting them some way or another.

you should stop promoting the keeping of the slow loris as a pet, they need specialised care... most are poached from the wild, suffer abuse and malnutrition and then are sold on the black market to consumers
