Now Manmadhan Ambu is a romantic film with a good feel to it. It's just the last third that slowly loses its way of what it wants to be, but other than that it is a brilliantly written film. Nothing less could be expected by Kamal though!! I was expecting more from the story though....

However, some says "There is something about Mary" and another says "Romance on High Seas" which was released in the year 1948. But you can tell after watching this movie because you have seen world movies.
I saw the manmadhan Ambu movie on Christmas Day. I say i had thoroughly enjoyed this movie. At present scenario, tamil cinema have never given straight forward spontaneous comedy film. Hats off to Kamal!. Even though, this movie has been inspired by Hollywood films, as once kamal himself admitted, this is definitely worth watchable with family.
This move is lots better than Endhiran. Kamal did a fantastic job as a writer but nothing special in acting. Overall, good movie in 2010.

Like I said, Endhiran only made money because of the tag of Shankar, Rajini, Rahman and Aishwarya Rai. Being the first Indian sci-fi and the biggest film, it made money. It also had better marketing strageties. Overall the film isn't as good...

@Anirudh931 "Dasavataram earned ran well bcoz of its name and KS" - Not really. KSR's Jaggubahi failed...and that was wildly advertised with his name. Dasavatharam isn't as good as it could have been, but in terms of its screenplay, it stands far above Endhiran. In terms of its acting it stand FAR above Endhiran.
Endhiran has better music (as written for the film) and better direction.

May be he could play the villain in my movie, after a few years, the styles and gimmicks would capture peoples attention,and he becomes hero!

@1969fid Surya's acting is better ? See Rajni's movies in the 70's and early 80's and few movies like Baasha in the 90s . Hei is not as good as Kamal but definitely hes second to Kamal . Even in Endhiran his acting was at the best in the last few films he has done .

The film was overall good, could have been slightly better....and shorter.
The climax is something totally new for Indian cinema, but they were pushing the use of CGI so much that the film was slightly being thrown away from the heart of the story.
The screenplay could have been better in some places. Rahman's score was incredible.
The film wasn't what I expected, but wasn't bad....
@1969fid Funny I thought you were a kamal fan, I don't blame you, Surya is a more salable actor than kAMAL, which is why you picked Surya to stand upto Rajini. But I don't think Surya's career will last as long as Rajini, as people want new and better stories, not copies from Hollywood movies and then pretending that you thought of it along ie Kamal!

Oh and Shankar's screenplay for Endhiran is actually not even CLOSE to being the best.

How can one compare two brilliant novels of literature like 1984 and The Hobbit. It's not possible, but The Hobbit succeeds at what it is better than 1984 (but 1984 is BRILLIANT).
Even apart from all that, I CAN compare Kamal writing in terms of brilliance. His work is FAR more brilliant than Shankar, but that's because Kamal know cinema more than anyone else.

Shankar is a professional screenplay and directer and Kamal is a professional actor . OK , Kamal has written good stories but Shankar has never written stories so u cannot compare . You have to live with this. These fights will happen although they shouldn't. The Rajini and Kamal comparison has been going on WAY longer than Vijay and Ajith. The difference is, Vijay is terrible, while Ajith is average. Kamal and Rajini are both legends. Both of them are brilliant. Kamal just stands to be the better actor.....and filmmaker.

@KayWildcat Kamal does more character oriented films as he has no choice, but to stand out. The commercial slot is too crowded these days. If kamal could do a commercial hit film after film and give hits, then why would he say no, no in 40 years he has no formula, however, so far Rajini formula seems to have worked more than others. However, I think if Rajini had gone the kamal way, he would have had to do villain roles to stand out, and we are not sure if tamil cinema would be as popular.

Now Kamal does have a choice. His movies are almost always incredible different from each other while Rajini films aren't. I love Rajini and I'm not saying he should change. Hats off to Kamal!. Even though, this movie has been inspired by Hollywood films, as once kamal himself admitted, this is definitely worth watchable with family.
This move is lots better than Endhiran. Kamal did a fantastic job as a writer but nothing special in acting. Overall, good movie in 2010.

I want my actor Kamal should be world class performer and he is indeed great actor, there is no doubt about it. But he should not force anyone to accept his atheism opinions.

@KayWildcat the trailer is a preview in itself - crass DSP music, bad dress sense by Kamal - apeing the already shown el metador robes,by the way - when will he flatten his belly?. Horrible star cast such as Usha Uthup and the uncanny similarity to the zillion Kamal Sangeetam Srinivasa Rao confusion films. We can exchange emails if broadcasting views is not the objective, voicing (speaking for others in other words) and broadcasting go hand in hand.

Like I said, Endhiran only made money because of the tag of Shankar, Rajini, Rahman and Aishwarya Rai. Being the first Indian sci-fi and the biggest film, it made money. It also had better marketing strageties. Overall the film isn't as good...

@Anirudh931 "Dasavataram earned ran well bcoz of its name and KS" - Not really. KSR's Jaggubahi failed...and that was wildly advertised with his name. Dasavatharam isn't as good as it could have been, but in terms of its screenplay, it stands far above Endhiran. In terms of its acting it stand FAR above Endhiran.
Endhiran has better music (as written for the film) and better direction.
What else should I say about Rajini apart from "not being a versatile actor"?

A few years would have passed, and some one else would have spotted Rajini doing a side role as a villain in a cheap budget movie, and thought hai this guy has a screen presence about him I like. May be he could play the villain in my movie, after a few years, the styles and gimmicks would capture peoples attention,and he becomes hero!

@Anirudh931 In Endhiran, his protrayal of the evil Chitti was mind blowing. Everything else was....meh.
The film was overall good, could have been slightly better....and shorter.
The climax is something totally new for Indian cinema, but they were pushing the use of CGI so much that the film was slightly being thrown away from the heart of the story.
The screenplay could have been better in some places. Rahman's score was incredible.
The film wasn't what I expected, but wasn't bad....

The film would be a total mess without Rajinikanth. Now, my opinion isn't biased. It's clear that you just won't accept being wrong, hence you won't accept other views.
Oh and Shankar's screenplay for Endhiran is actually not even CLOSE to being the best.

@Anirudh931 Comparing two different styles of writing isn't wrong. This isn't about a direct comparison, but the overall result of each. How can one compare two brilliant novels of literature like 1984 and The Hobbit. It's not possible, but The Hobbit succeeds at what it is better than 1984 (but 1984 is BRILLIANT).
Even apart from all that, I CAN compare Kamal writing in terms of brilliance. His work is FAR more brilliant than Shankar, but that's because Kamal know cinema more than anyone else.

Shankar is a brilliant writer. I will say that a FEW scens in Endhiran was weak in terms of it's screenplay, but Rajini was able to block that out. You have to live with this. These fights will happen although they shouldn't. The Rajini and Kamal comparison has been going on WAY longer than Vijay and Ajith. The difference is, Vijay is terrible, while Ajith is average. Kamal and Rajini are both legends. Both of them are brilliant. Kamal just stands to be the better actor.....and filmmaker.
He is better for his acting, but Rajini's style can only be done by him!

@KayWildcat Kamal does more character oriented films as he has no choice, but to stand out. The commercial slot is too crowded these days. If kamal could do a commercial hit film after film and give hits, then why would he say no, no in 40 years he has no formula, however, so far Rajini formula seems to have worked more than others. However, I think if Rajini had gone the kamal way, he would have had to do villain roles to stand out, and we are not sure if tamil cinema would be as popular.

@neethan30 Almost ALL films are character oriented...
Now Kamal does have a choice. His movies are almost always incredible different from each other while Rajini films aren't. I love Rajini and I'm not saying he should change. I'm just saying that popularity isn't as important as quality. If Kamal films were more popular than Indian cinema would be pushed slightly to a better path.
