The technique is referred to as a bone marrow harvest and is performed under a general anesthesia. The incidence of patients experiencing rejection is rare due to the donor and recipient being the same individual. This remains the only approved method of the SCT therapy. Autologous stem cell transplantation is a procedure by which blood-forming stem cells are removed, and later injected back into the patient. All stem cells are taken from the patient themselves and cultured for later injection. In the case of a bone marrow transplant, the HSC are typically removed from the Pelvis through a large needle that can reach into the bone. Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more information.
Dr. Hemangi of Noble continues: “These are early days and certainly all evidence that the combination of liberation and stem cell therapies working together at this point is anecdotal. However I am not aware of other medical facilities in the world that offer the synthesis of both to MS patients on an approved basis and it is indeed a rare opportunity for MS patients to take advantage of a treatment that is quite possibly unique in the world”. With regard to MS patients, “We are cautious, but nevertheless excited by what patients are telling us. Suffice to say that the few patients who have had the therapy through us are noticing recovery of neuro deficits beyond what the venous angioplasty alone should account for”. Dr.Avneesh Gupte, the Neurosurgeon at Noble Hospital performing the procedure has been encouraged by results in Cerebral Palsy patients as well. “We are fortunate to be able to offer the treatment because not every hospital is able to perform these types of transplants. You must have the specialized medical equipment and specially trained doctors and nurses”. A universal benefit reported by every patient has been the recovery of bladder control. Most MS patients have various bladder control symptoms that include urinary urgency, incontinence, nocturia, or urinary hesitancy as a result of the disruption of electrical impulses from the brain to the nerves and muscles that are involved in emptying the bladder (pudenal nerve, urethral sphincter, detrusor muscle). A group of Canadian patients just back from Noble have reported similar results. “I can actually see what I thought were long-dead muscles forming in my feet” said Larry Vermeersch of Kenora, Ontario. “My balance is back and I’m walking without a cane. I’m a pretty hard guy to convince, but getting these two procedures together has made me a believer. I’m looking forward to the physio ahead because I can feel everything coming back.” Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more information.
“I feel I am completely cured” says Ms. Gianopoulos, “my symptoms have disappeared and I have a recovery of many functions, notably my balance and my muscle strength is all coming (back). Even after six months, I feel like there are good changes happening almost every day. Before, my biggest fear was that the changes wouldn’t (hold). I don’t even worry about having a relapse anymore”. After 6 months of offering stem cell therapy in combination with the venous angioplasty liberation procedure, patients of CCSVI Clinic have reported excellent health outcomes. Ms. Kasma Gianopoulos of Athens Greece, who was diagnosed with the Relapsing/Remitting form of MS in 1997 called the combination of treatments a “cure”. actually there is a study showing tysabri increases the number of circulating stem cells...however as you know there are other things that may negate positive effects
Very informative video. I wonder whether you have heard about Stem-Kine, its a food supplement that increases stem cells in circulation. My question is whether it may work in conjunction with the "Liberation therapy"?
Thanks so much for the videos and dedication to constant video posting.
I'm on Avonex (DX since late 08) and seem to be getting worse over this time (had to use a cane for the first time, for 5 days only while having an attack-not using anymore).
I have a meeting with my doctor to change meds to Tysabri.
I'm scared of this drugs, but have hope after watching videos and listening to you and others. Thanks so very much. Dave
Thank you Dave. I may be worried about PML if Tysabri had done nothing for me, but, as it stands, it has been a wonderful drug that allowed me to get my freedom back (no wheelchair, no crutches, etc).
Great video. I love all the attention CCSVI is getting. The more people we can get involved in the research the better. It's either going to prove that it works or it doesn't but until it's proven wrong I won't give up hope on it for all of us suffering with MS. Always enjoy your honest opinion on these issues.
Hi Vern. I think you're making good sense - talking about how you feel and your two cents on things. And I don't know why anybody who wants to help beat MS would be particularly hostile about CCSVI theory before it's been thoroughly researched and understood. Anyway, good luck to you.
Always good to see your videos. Although I agree with you and disagree I know that you are always very wise and candid. I hope you and the pug doug are enjoying the cold weather we have no snow in Buffalo while everywhere else is getting slammed. As Nelson from the simpsons says...../
Your 2 cents, always makes sense Vern :) Your doing so well with the Tysabri. I know for me! if something changed my life as Tysabri I would be a bit hard to move my spirits beyond that...
Thanks for your 2 cents worth. Good luck with getting assessed (& insurance coverage) for CCSVI!
And, most importantly, given that you're now aware that this is the 11th of February, don't forget a Valentine's Day surprise for your sweetheart in THREE DAYS! Best to you,

No, I have not heard of Stem-Kine. It's all very interesting, that's for sure.

Search Tysabri on youtube & it shows your video about the negative stuff FIRST.
Not this positive stuff.
Thanks for mentioning the "unmentionable".
I won't mention that one of the last medical research articles is titled something like
'more questions than answers about XML'
Sad -not even google? allows the word STEM CELL to be associated with TYSABRI.

Hey Vern! Winter-you've got it, that's for sure. Blecch!
"Thinking outside the box"...iy might not be your favourite phrase but it's certainly the appropriate one here-you're right!
Good luck with your dicussion with your neuro about CCSVI. Keep us posted, eh!?
Thanks,
Sandy

Great video.
you put your points out there and explained things logically.
There is a possiblity that I am wrong. once CCSVI has been totally researched and we know one way or the other I will be at peace.
Personally, I think they will be eating snowcones in hell if CCSVI is not a cause of MS, but i am keeping objective and cautiously optimistic.
The thing that bothered me was that people were attacking the theory so I had to embrace it publicly. It is early but shows great promise.
Thanks

Another great video Vern. I wish I knew more about stem cells but have not researched it more due to the costs of it.
Having to go out of the country etc, not in the cards for me.
I would love to get tested for CCSVI but no insurance or money for that either.
Trials and studies are starting up but chances of getting in are slim with the amount of people who will be applying.
So for now I have to stay with Avonex even if it isn't really working for me.
So dang depressed right now
