Johnny sounds in this version likes he is out of breath on nearly ever stanza. What's interesting is Hank Snow was NOT the first person to do this song. He WAS the first AMERICAN to have a hit with it, however. It was originally written in AUSTRALIA, using names of Aussie towns. Legend has it, Snow heard it on a trip to Australia, but that may be only a 'legend'.

@TheDragonsGhost It was actually first hit the charts in Australia in the late 50's with a version by Australian singer Lucky Starr. Hank rewrote the lyrics to refer to American towns as opposed to Australian towns, and released his version, which was then released by Johnny Cash years later.

@kingkull0423 Johnny Cash is one of my heroes, but, sorry, there's no comparison on this song. HANK SNOW's version is BY FAR the best. Plus, Snow sings it MUCH faster. Plus, Cash seems to be struggling with the lyrics; Hank Snow sings it faster and makes it seem almost EFFORTLESS!

@kingkull0423 Well, I'll agree with you that he makes you feel his songs just about anyone else. I think it's his earthy quality that make me and others appreciate Johnny so much. He's so sincere. Of course, your reference to "accents": NATURALLY, we ALL have different accents all over the U.S., so there really is no CORRECT accent. And not only that, but Hank Snow is Canadian. I don't really understand what accent you're referring to when you say he has THE accent down perfectly. THE accent????
