  • Seems odd that there's no upload for Letter to Both Sides

  • im so stoned

  • red skys are coming soon

  • The first version is from the Shuttered Rooms album with Stand or Fall I still have the cassette.

  • The wombatster counts this among his "Essential Eighties". The Fixx were an amazing group, perhaps misunderstood, and highly underrated by buying masses - although often praised as groundbreakers of by the insider music community. The subtle terror of both the music and the lyrics stylistically frame the great nuclear fear of the cold war. "Someone's taking over...." hauntingly reflects what was in the back of everyone's mind. A timeless classic.

  • enjoyed reading all the comments about this song and the band, wish more people knew about the Fixx and listened to their music, one of the first true alternative bands!!!

  • Hard to believe it's been 22 years since the Berlin Wall fell. This song summed up the feelings of an entire generation (my generation) that had to grow up under the shadow of the Cold War. Excellent tune, this one.

  • Oh, “THEY” are just such “KNOW IT ALLS!”....5

  • this kicks ass!!been a long time, thanks for bringing it back!

  • obama can kiss my asshole!!!! and all liberals can kiss my butt

  • I prefer this version to the original.I like the faster tempo

  • there are huge noticeable differences in the vocals and the only one I like is missing

the music is faster in every newer version and the one posted as the original from 1982 is not the same as the original version from the radio. This one is closest to the original except for the vocal fluxuations and the speed

  • Okay so how many versions of Red Skies are there and which is this one??

  • @lerouquinne from the React album ,sort of a greatest hits album, some recorded live and some studio songs, a great collection, check it out

  • Think the punchy bass that is so in your face in the '82 version really adds the tension in this song. Excellent musicians and great lead vocals - song still kicks butt and, if anything, more relevant than ever.

  • MAN TOO COOL OF SONG! Radio only plays shit now...

  • i like 1987 better but i was born 1994 so ya know =/

  • They certainly don't make music like this anymore.

  • who cares ..its really a great tune

  • Some guy on CNN sent me here (:

About that "Mystery Rocket launch" in California on Monday Nov 8th 2010...

  • gods thoughts" all i need for a good song is a sunset and a group of people called the Fixx"

  • My darling.

  • I've seen this referred to as the "1987" version. But I seem to remember it from 1983; 1984 at the latest.

  • LIVE! thats great

  • great song, you did a great job!!! later jorge. i love this song, i cant get enough!

  • Perfect!

  • This is the BETTER version, cool!

  • Hey, this song was in a scene from my fav american TV show, Cold Case, about a news anchor who was killed in 1988. God i'm a nerd!

  • totally confused, which version is the dude from zz top playing bass in? what year? I've heard '82, '85' and now '87 is also possible.

  • @stonerolledaway - Actually, I was incorrect. This is from 1987. This version has Dan K. Brown on Bass, where the original had Carlton "Charlie" Barret on Bass.

As far as I know, no one from ZZ Top ever played with the Fixx...though, Dan K. Brown, in the video for Red Skies (1987) did look like he was going for the ZZ Top look.

  • thanks for the info. That look of the bass player in 1987 video may play on the orthodox jew and the role of israel in the end times.

  • @feldschpah

I always thought it was Alfie Agius on bass.

  • @inspyrdbychet - Nope. Alfie was on "One Thing Leads To Another", but left after the recording of the album which it is on. Dan K. Brown came afterwards to take over.

  • @feldschpah Thanks for the insight. Really don't know much about the members other than their names. I had the opportunity to see many groups back in the 80's (too many to mention) and I honestly have to say, of all of them I was shocked at how fantastic these guys are performing a live show. Seen them at Janus Landing when Calm Animals was released.

Those that have never seen them live, and get the chance should take in their show. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

  • Yeah, I prefer the 1982 original version; its much, much, better.

  • I like all the songs fromm the "React" album. All are very good live versions and I think most of the tracks are better.

  • I prefer the original 1982 single version off of "Shuttered Room" but this redo from 1987 is good too.

  • There is very little difference in the two versions. My opinion is both versions must be utilized for insight.

  • @thomasearlwelch - The major difference between both is that the '82 version sounds a bit more raw and slightly chopped (which is good, IMHO), whereas this is a little more polished and smooth (which is also good, IMHO).

But, still, your opinion is a very good one and I agree with it.

  • feldschpah,Thank you.I always write Linda,she listens also.Your right,this sounds like lots more practice took place here.Enjoyable I bet.
