I guess, it's cos this has been taken around Midsummer Solstice/St.John's Day, which is the biggest Latvian national celebrations. At this time ppl wear wreaths made of flowers(women) &oak leafs(men,mainly those named John). His name is Jānis (John), maybe he got it as a present from the public?..well there are 3 Johns actually! :D

Those are not flowers, but oak leaves. Oak represents the masculine strength in Latvian folklore. This was filmed during summer solstice, which is the most important national festivity celebrated in spirit of ancient traditions, when men and women wear wreaths, especially if they are called Līga or Jānis, cos it's also their name's day.

But don't bother sending your "gaylords", cos Latvia still seems to be a highly homophobic country - a legacy from communist occupation.

It seems like there are some people who dislike the biginning of this song... though i like it.

Their technique of singing is based on classical music, and the beginning of this song is also very classical, i think. Classical music players/composers sometimes enjoy cacophony purposely.
