WHY should anyone worry about what kind of music (art, poetry, etc.) he or she "ought" to be writing?! Life's too short. Good music is good music. Any style is good if the music speaks to people and it's well written. If composers had to be worried about writing only masterpieces, they'd live sorrow and lonesome lives. Tempus fugit, artes manent.
Gee, I'm not sure any of my rags are in 4 flats (Ab major or F minor), and only one or two are in 2/4! (most are in 4/4, and a few have odd time signature changes).
However, it would be ridiculous to even mention my rags near Mr. Bolcom's so I should refrain from doing so.
