Cid's death was definitely one of the pivotal scenes in the game for me. All of the best videogame plots have a way of turning the story on it's head and really upping the stakes, and this really did the trick back then. Not with a twist like in 7, but by fundamentally changing the world and making Celes feel hopeless. The catharsis of finding locke's bandanna was a beautiful moment.
@TheHollywoodV1 You're absolutely right... when I firts say that scene, I thought it was incredible... It was a deeper scene than I have ever seen in any movie, it was quite epic (Im argentinian, so please forgive any misspelling)
Why does it feel like I've heard similar themes in the later FF games. I definitely sure I heard something similar in FF7, during the scenes between Cloud and Tifa and maybe even Cloud and Aeris I think.
Oh, and this is the song she sings during the opera.
I've never played the game (or any Final Fantasy for that matter), but I saw THAT scene on a top 10 saddest video game moments video. And this song was playing during it. I didn't even know Celes well as a character, ad it nearly brought a tear to my eye. :'(
I feel like I have heard this somewhere NOT in ff6... Really sad, when she commit suicide, I was about to cry, no joke. 1. Her tears as shw fell and 2. the music!!
Wow the beginning reminded me of the Great Fairy's Fountain from Zelda, then the second stanza sounded like Aerith's Theme. Love how this one song brings back memories of so many different games!
@PsychoBurgundy3 The other people who were here with us all gave up hope... One after the next they flung themselves from the northern cliffs in despair.
@OgnarPliskin You think about that part in the game, and you think about how Celes must have felt after Cid died. Talk about a hopeless situation. FF6 has such a great story to it, and this is just one part of it.
@LouieDeNonno The you know what? I have played the game maybe 10 or 12 times fully through. What does Celes and World of Ruin have in common with sadness? Everyone she cares about lives.
@NY1love You don't know? If you feed Cid anything but the good fish, he dies, and Celes jumps off a cliff attempting suicide. She thinks everything is over and everyone is dead.
A great thing about this game is that it touches on topics that you really wouldn't see in gaming at the time or now really, like suicide and teenage pregnancy. It looks so simple and yet it's one of the most profound games I've ever played.
i love music in all final games. my favorite final game is the 4th one. nothing beat that story and each character were unique. but thsi song is pure awsomeness
@pauldoggydog Well, technically FF4 on the DS was an official remake, since they added voice acted cutscenes, 3D graphics, a rearranged soundtrack, FMVs and a little bit of extra content, rather than just being a slight graphical update and port, like the GBA versions. Though since they both got completely retranslated there's a little bit of remaking going on in both cases.
Oh my hero, so far away now. Will I ever see your smile? Love goes away, like night into day. It's just a fading dream. I'm the darkness, you're the stars. Our love is brighter than the sun. For eternity, for me there can be, Only you, my chosen one... Must I forget you? Our solemn promise? Will autumn take the place of spring? What shall I do? I'm lost without you. Speak to me once more!
Imagine Celes' attempted suicide scene with full voice acting... It's already sad enough as is, but it would be even MORE of a tearjerker if they remade it with voice acting.
Square Enix HAS to remake this game eventually. They have no choice. They MUST remake Final Fantasy 6. It would be truly epic.
This song is perfect for Celes. For all she's been through, and for all of the confusing moments with Locke. It really represents her and her struggles through life.
@Thayloktar Good news then, Square has announced that this game will be making an appearance on the virtual console, though the date has yet to be announced.
@uzay2000 look up amano's orriginal artwork of her. celes's sprite and the artwork (like many of the FF females amano created during the earlier years) hold very little resemblance to each other.
I believe that Celes once loves Kefka. I mean come on, she's 18 and has many opportunities. FF6 media leaves on hints there was something supposed to be going on. Perhaps, "I had a wife once; she was beautiful, like you... And she can't stand the sight of me!... She leaves and now I'm always smiling." (Kefka laugh)
This song catches my heart in particular, though I love so much of the final fantasy music and characters, this is one of those songs that just really touched my heart!
@Geckogold OMG! When I saw that cutscene I nearly cried!!! This song has a really sad vibe almost lonely, depressing, and heartbreaking... this song now plays in my head when I recall my reaction to MJ's death... :*(
Actually, you can save him if you feed him only fast moving fish. Then he tells you about the raft he was building. He then pulls it out and then waves goodbye to you as you take off. But still, I hate killing him off even though I like this music.
Breathtaking depth and drama in the chords of this song.. even though I'm too busy too play FF these days (being a student rocks!), these songs bring back the memories. For this one, those memories are the opera house, her interactions with Locke, and of course her difficult scene following the World's End. I wish all music lovers could sit down and play through these games just to appreciate the music which Mr Uematsu wrote to perfectly match every scene and character!
I adore this theme. When I heard it after the opera I almost cried even though I wasn't even sure why :) I am really enjoying the game so far. Thanks for the upload.
@Tofuhat That was about how old I was the first time I played this game, oh those many years ago. Watching the scene in Daryl's Tomb brings me to tears just as much today as the first time I saw it so many years ago. This is the proof that this is a great game.
I love Celes's opera and her theme. I love the lyrics to that song. This game definately deserves a remake more than FF7 becase it had more meaning, I think.
@ShinRaVII I'm not so sure about that, In all honesty, even though I'd *LOVE* to see a remake of FFVI, I think I'd rather see one for FFVII for the simple fact is, I'd be afraid SE would screw up the classic that is FFVI. @WhitemageSerenia Eh, a remake is worth a shot. If they screw it up we can just ignore it. If nothing else, it would be worth it for the soundtrack. Imagine the opera scene with an actual orchestra and opera singer.
@melosebrainuhoh Oh I know it could be extremely epic if done correctly ^^ I would like to see a remake, but I'm not 100% sure. I guess I'd end up critiquing it harder since FFVI is my personal favorite in the series, but I don't really know, It could be awesome thats for sure
@ShinRaVII I would say FF6 had more meaning, but straight up, FF7 had way more flashbacks and plot twists regarding Cloud's humanity and individuality.

So a all new remake with new 3D sprites and HD backgrounds, and a new translation would be awesome.
@ShinRaVII Final Fantasy VI doesn't need a remake because it is in the prime of 2-Dimensional gaming, to put it in 3D would make some design choices uneeded and strange. Final Fantasy VII is probably one of the most low-poly eye straining games out there, and with the scope of the game it needs a remake more than VI.
I'm not saying Final Fantasy VI is a worse game. It just doesnt need a remake. Not to mention a lot of the jokes would only work in 2D anyway.
@mrguy124 Well, it didn't do its intended purpose. There's no accuracy system in place, making blind nearly useless, and making other things, such as the Sniper Shot, absolutely useless.
@mixk1d Althought I am a supporter of a FF6 remake, I kinda agree with you. If it's to have Nomura who design the 3D character's and they looks like FFX or XIII charachters, I would rather like not to support anymore a remake of this game.
@mixk1d This is a very good observation of the difference between the 2d and 3d gaming mediums. However, out of sheer fan wankiness, I'd love to see how they'd handle a 3D remake, especially with your points in mind. Obviously they'd have to compromise some areas of the game, but I still think with the general synopsis intact it could be a wonderful remake that introduces a fresh generation to this classic RPG.
@mixk1d I disagree strongly. FF7 doesn't need a remake, because is it in itself, already remade (with CC etc). That means little would change in the perspective, much of the game was visually appealing and had enough detail that it wouldn't really make much difference. In FF6, however, the same polygon patterns are found throughout every town (same houses), every dungeon, and every castle. It would be re-invented visually, And I'm not sure how the jokes wouldn't work if not in 2D.
@mixk1d I agree with that, however they could remake it on PSP in 2.5D like they did with FF1, FF2, and FF4. I would enjoy it if it was remade in the same style as those games. (I'm hoping they remake FF3 and FF5 on PSP in the same style as well) :P
They weren't "remade". they were just imported on those systems. GBA they added one extra dungeon but the game wasn't "remade" ;p.final fantasy 1-4 were remade completely with much more new content. Also why do you think FF5 and 6 would be destroyed by the 3ds? the system is nicer graphics than the old school system it originated on, wouldn't it be BETTER since it would have updated graphics? graphics don't make a game, but FF6 would be amazing on 3ds or the new PSP.
@SOF2Marine Because they just would. 3 on the DS sucked and 4 on the DS is worse than Shaq Fu for the SNES. And your saying 3D Graphics are better than old school 16-bit graphics? Bullshit. The only "good" remake for those 2 epic masterpieces would be if they were remade on the PSP with updated 2D graphics.
This is probably the most beautiful song ever heard on a SNES game.

@SOF2Marine Both games have been remade 2 times. One for PSX the other for GBA. We don't need them to be destroyed by the 3DS.
