those jokers giving rubbish comments.... do they eat sharks fin every day?? stupid dumb ass... just because free food they can say fuck hold lot... what fuck those idiot knows about food!!!
WHAT?!?!?!?! Hong Kong chiefs cook the best shark fins!!!!!!!!~~~there's no way HK will lose to Japan!!! i'm not saying this to help my own hometown, i LOVE japan like crazy...but, i'm just saying...Hk ppl know shark fins the most!!!!!!!
@PR166lolly lol I hear ya but remember the judges are also Japanese.... and really if anyone thinks katsuobushi goes well with shark fins.... XD they're either Japanese and have been brought up with that flavor or they have very bad tongues.
Shark fins have a mild taste (not exactly tasteless) in themselves. Shark fin is used in a lot of things other than soups (such as stir fries) all the time, but westerners won't be familiar with such dishes. Take it from a grandson of a shark fin dealer.
Shark fin is considered a very high end ingredient in Chinese cuisine. The cost alone is prohibitive in terms of how much is consumed. You're not going to see shark fin soup on a roadside stand being served for 99 cents.
The Chinese understand such a resource is to be protected and controlled. Why can't we buy a one carat diamond for $100? The same reason why shark fin is so expensive.
I understand what you are trying to say, but diamonds are a little different. High volume diamond buyers release diamonds in a trickle onto the market to restrict the supply to keep the price high. There is a huge supply of diamonds, and probably would be $100 a carat if we really knew how many there were out there.
That guy is regarded as a crown in Japan. Never composed anything beyond ordinary in his lifetime. No, nothing. and yet, he calls himself a "world-class composer" and persuade everybody to call him by that self-proclaimed title. What a loser.
@zetasan Sakamoto is GOOD composer what are you talking about, he is the composer of 'the Last Emperor', best oscar film of the year, the film's score was phenomenal
Damn I thought the Challenger should've won, because Michiba used the pressure cooker thing, and that dish looked abit messy, while the Challenger's 3 dishes looked so unique and powerful !!
@KingLloyd I am both a fan of Iron Chef and Mr. Sakamoto. He comes off as rude and pretentious here but he is not lying. He really is a musical genius; one of the fathers of technopop.

shark fin is usually used for soup. it's my first time seeing ppl use it for dishes.
well, for fairness, they should have invited judges of diff. countries. the dish presentation of both challengers are very japanese.
bottom line is it's just a show.

Wow he bombed pretty bad. I thought he would at least nail one dish.

In response to your comment, sharks are not sustainable without proper management.... Diamonds will exist long after we're gone.

Michiba or the challenger?

I have to agree the judges were a bit biased. Really felt sorry for Xu being shot down like that.
I wondered how he is doing now after doing this show?!
cherryblossomslover 2 years ago
i think the judges were biased..probably for better ratings...home team defeating a well decorated chef.

well, of course it needs more time!! both chefs only had 1 hour to cook the shark fin, when it usually needs several hours.

The composer is such a jackass. Self-promoting himself on a cooking show. What an A.

I'm guessing he calls himself that because of his numerous awards?
Although..it was only for like..one movie. He does a lot of pretty random collaborations though.

need more time for the shark fins. Machiba used a pressure cooker which cooks faster.
