  • hydrogen peroxide, baking sode and a drop of detergent is what it recommended.

  • supposed to wash him in tomato sauce

  • What exactly does it smell like? Describe the smell

  • @yogozarfy

The smell doesn't bother me that much. If they walk by my window at night I kinda like it, lol. At a comfortable distance they smell, to me, like really really strong fresh coffee grounds. Up close and squirted they seem to smell like the coffee plus some diesel fuel and sulpher.

Just had another bout with my dog vs a skunk two nights ago!

  • @1rewd1

    *sulfur

  • @yogozarfy Smells like burning oil, sewage being boiled, sulfur, and being downwind of a paper mill!

  • Mix up the following:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide

    1/4 cup of baking soda

    2 teaspoons of liquid soap

This mixture attacks the thiols in the skunk spray, breaking it down into a salt-like compound that has no appreciable smell.

Also, a good idea to have a filter mask around the house, even the surgical mask kind, to help you deal with the smell during the cleansing.

  • Soap don't work - you need some sort of acid, like vinager, or lemons, or tomatoes.

  • skunks ftw

  • the dog is probably the one suffering the most^^

  • @ebombz1986

Pardon me, but when an animal gets skunked, they learn not to mess with a skunk again.

  • @DemonFoxFangs

    Nooooooo they don't.

  • @1rewd1 YEAA THEY DONT MY DAD RAN OVER ONE

  • i heard tomato sauce takes the skunk smell away... youll need a lot though hahaha

  • No tomato juice buddy... :P

  • seriously don't call me buddy thats annoying. sauce or juice who cares same thing.

  • hell yah they stink

  • lol the dog had such a pathetic look on his face like "yup i messed up"

  • Yea... I hit a skunk a while back while driving. It's definitely not a pleasant smell. ESPECIALLY when it's FRESH. lol

  • @DanielSayWhat

That's why you hit the skunk... skunks won't run when they see a car coming. Instead, they'll try and spray the car...

  • Poor baby (both of you) BJ looks like our rat terriers. Thankfully no skunks yet!

Here's a recipe for skunk smell removal:

    1 qt 3% hydrogen perixide

    1/4 cup baking soda

    2 tsp liquid soap

Mix in plastic bucket, wash pet thouroughy with solution, work well into fur, let sit 5 minutes or so then rinse well. You may have to repeat on heavily oiled areas. Do not get into pet's eyes. Dispose of remaining solution - do NOT try to store it.

  • Is a skunk smell really that bad? Wow!!

  • i want to ask the same question LOL :L

    Love,

  • Poor thing:) That was cute, he sure is a good boy:)

  • That poor baby! You both are too cute.

  • Poor baby. Peppy la Pewwie

  • my dogs always getting sprayed.. i think they make a shampoo for that w/lots of citric acid

  • Growing up we had a German Shepherd who would get sprayed and stink for a couple weeks. Just when he start smelling like his normal self he'd get sprayed again! haha You'd think they'd learn!!

  • Put some tomato juice on him that will help with the smell. Sure hope he has his rabies shot...be carefull about that.

  • i thot for sure you were gonna puke in the tub of water or on BJ! glad you didn't ;)

  • Ruthe: bathe him again in pure tomato juice... it will kill the smell. somethang about the acid in the tomatos.

  • I heard you were supposed to pour tomato juice on them.. what did you use to deskunk him?

  • we've always heard that wisk or liquid tide would - and once before when our cat got into one - it worked - after the soaking of wisk or liquid tide then i shampooed him with dog shampoo and it worked -

  • Well that's nice to know!! I don't think we have skunks down here though, I've never seen one! The only one I've ever seen was on The Brady Bunch! lol

  • LOL This is hillarious! I think you're trying to drown that stinky dog Ruthe! LOL 5-STARS -Jim
