Maybe it's just me, but i find DT to be very boring and lacking in passion. I respect their guitarist, John, I own his DVD's and his books, but I can't stand his playing in the context of DT.

HOWEVER (before the hardcore DT fans start crying), I will concede that they're probably a big influence on most bands that I listen to. even then, I'd rather listen to PTH any day of the week.

My friend said he hated this band because it reminded him too much of Dream Theater's James Labrie, whom he hates and I love.

I don't hear Labrie in his voice at all, but to each their own I suppose.

I like this band a lot better than Dream Theater, though, which means Protest the Hero will probably become my favorite band even though this is the only song I've heard from them so far.

If anyone cares about my opinion in the first place. xD

It's an acquired tasted honestly, listening to them for about 14 years, I'm used to it. But I never said Rody lacked any range whatsoever, I'm not sure where you dug that up. You can't deny that LaBrie has a more extensive vocal range than Rody, I'm obviously not accusing him of having none. I don't dislike either in any way.

"Rody does not have (some guy's) amazing vocal range AT ALL" doesn't exactly read like Rody has a lot of range but is simply outclassed; but I apologize, for your intention was clearly not to insult Rody. Again, I haven't listened to enough LaBrie to make any comment, because him and Dream Theater are, to my ears, the most incongruent matchup and I cannot listen to him.

Hahaha, that last point there is true! I've listened to a fair bit of DT and tbh, LaBrie's voice isn't that great. His range is big, but not BIIIG and outside of the more middle constraints it begins to sound rather bland.

seriously though, they released a live DVD, i have it uploaded, feel free to browse. I find there's a few things lacking:

1) rody's vocals are off, partly because all the harmonies are missing, partly cuz his parts are hard.

2) the mix is obviously off, as it is with almost all bands

3) their tempo fluctuates heavily; while the band still remains synchronized, it's a minor annoyance to my groove.

@downfallin : really really really solid live act. if you get the chance to go....GO! I always liked them but seeing them live really turned me into a fan. It's a completely different experience seeing them create these songs in front of you and seeing how hard they go and how much they put into it; it just changes your whole perspective. Just saw them recently, still firing on all cylenders.

I love the thing they go into at 3:02 and then it builds and builds and then it goes into another part that every time makes me smile at the pure awesomeness of what I hear. And then when the backing vocals say "Amen to the people" it makes it even better. And after I also like the guitar solo at 3:39. Amazing song. I think if you are introduced to Protest the Hero with Fortress like I did, you find Kezia even better. But like any PTH song it grows on me, I dislike it at first then I love it. =)
