I love how Eric Carmen wrote a one-line verse and cuts straight to the chorus -- way to go, Eric! Forget the verse and cut right to the good stuff! It always makes me laugh when I hear it.
Nobody today compares to them. No regrets for me, they were part of my generation. Thank God I didn't miss out on them. My nephews and nieces? Too stupid to figure it out and don't know the good stuff...although one niece does like Pink Floyd. Maybe there's hope.....
If any band did the "wall of sound" right, it was the Raspberries with their great three minute masterpieces. I remember watching the old VU meters when I played one of their tunes, and the meters didn't move. Talk about compression. What a great tune!
@fabulbabe Wall of Sound is right. When I saw them at Boise State in the 70's they had stacks of Ampeg amps from wall to wall. Very few concerts I went to were as loud as the raspberries :)
I wore this record out back in '72!! Later saw them on the show "Go" and heard "Go All The Way" for the 1st time, and the song "Tonight" was a new release when I saw this show. They played "Go All The Way" at the skating rink I went to.
@mjpsails I am not sure how much classical training he received, but it was enough for him to use themes from Rachmaninoff in his own songs. Check out Rachmaninoff's 2d Piano Concerto if you want to hear the most haunting and romantic music possibly ever written.
I loved the Raspberries in like the 8th grade, and there was this guy who said the Raspberries were gay, guess what, he was freakin' obsessed with ELTON JOHN !!!!! LMFAO
Absolutely wonderful memories of Junior High School (they call it middle school now but I digress) Thanks a million Joe! You just can't stay in a bad mood listening to great music like this. We were SO lucky to grow up during this time.
Love this song... so damn sexy and haunting. Hard to describe exactly. Innocent yet very naughty...

i agree withthe uploaders comments that this group was more influential than it got credit for being. Power pop was a big thing in the mid 70s.

50's undertones. Gritty vocals , falsetto. bridges , refrains totally amazing for their time!

they sure don't make music like this anymore. All music today is so unoriginal and it all sounds alike.

The Raspberries deserve to be as celebrated as other renowed power pop bands like Big Star!

I had heard , once a long while ago, that Eric Carmen was trained as a classical musician. Anyone substantiate that?
mjpsails 8 months ago
@mjpsails To some degree. It's on Wikipedia.
