Hmmm. Gotta say that riff and the vocals are dang catchy and has a great "feel good" feeling, but for some reason overall it's just "meh." I know you've heard millions of other Weezer fans "complain" about how all their post-Pinkerton albums are bad, but it is true. Blue Album and Pinkerton just had this magic touch that they couldn't recreate. The only thing that I like about this song is from 1:03 to 1:17.
One of my favorite Weezer songs that is very underrated. I LOVE the beat and the solo. It's just great all around and they are one of the greatest bands of all time. You should see them live....Rivers is getting a lot better as a frontman....he's really improved though I still loved him when he just stood there behind his guitar :)
@TheSenileFeline Of course it 's a "groovy jamb", that guitar part is a total rip-off of Barry White's Forever In Love, done by Love Unlimited. Someone said that the chord progression on Island in the Sun is just a sped-up rip off of No Doubt's Don't Speak. It wouldn't surprise me, since Undone Sweater and Beverly Hills use that rehash chord progression of Wild Thing...
If you're going to claim this is a rip-off (which, I agree, it partially is), at least get the song it ripped off right. The main riff is directly lifted from "Breezin'" by George Benson. While "Forever in Love" has a KIND OF SIMILAR riff, the underlying chord progression is nowhere near the same. Regardless, this is a great song, so let's all just enjoy it for what it is!
Ahhhhh this is one of my fav albums I bought during my High School years. I would play this song after school with my ready to eat microwavable hot pockets and a cold one and enjoy.
@tuleli I kind of hear it now but its not that strong of a recognition for me. I think its because the intros for both are just two chords, each one having one note change before it goes to the other chord. Good ear though, man! Strong one for me is "December" from Maladroit. Its sounds a lot like "Oh Darling" by The Beatles.
I used to have this joint on my x box and loved playing it when I played dead or alive xtreme beach volleyball. The game play and this tune gelled together so very nicely. if you did the same you'd agree. One love, Weezer!
the drums of the first 8 bars in this song are so hard to learn. i'm so frustrated. there's too many things going on at once. too complicated. rush is not even that hard.
This song is based off of a jam the Grateful Dead used to play in concert, and can be heard on "Dark Star > Jam" off Dick's Picks Vol. 2, as well as "Dancing In The Streets" off Dick's Pick's Vol. 8
I think the Blue Album is they're best and Pinkerton is highly under-rated I wasn't a big fan of the green (3rd) album I haven't kept up with them since but this is a good jam,....
yeah this was the song that made me give maladroit the 2nd listen...but i really like that cd now...i mean besides the singles that are good...slave, slob, american gigolo, death and destruction, Love explosion are all good songs i think so its not like its that bad a cd quite of few good songs
gothic favor...how i miss u

what a sweet song
guitars flow nicely and have a great tone
pretty simple yet genius lyrics, and always great vocals
i do like maladroit better than 3 others, Green, Red, and Make Believe
partly because this song, and keep fishing, dope nose, american gigolo, and dope nose
but this is at the top of that album
