Besides, the real PROS in ham radio are those that are electronic engineers, AM/FM/TV broadcast technicians, makers of electronic equipment, and many many more vocations. Amateur Radio is more than just mere "chit-chat" among friends and strangers. It's more than "just a CB."

Experimentation; public safety; still and motion picture transmissions; electronics; weather spotting; backup communications; public service... the list is endless.

If you just want to talk, get a CB. If you want to do more with radio, get your Amateur Radio license.

Yes!

Motion pictures: does require more than 2M It's the only thing I mentioned that does.

The rest is all possible, and currently happening, with the 2M band.

Later on, you can delve into other bands and other modes of operation. You don't have to mortgage the farm to get started. Pass the test, and then buy a radio for about $200. That's it! You're in and started!
