Yes, this is true. But the JD is a 4x4, (at least mine is) and does not use a lot of fuel (4 gallon tank). I admit, it cannot tear up the earth like a Bobcat, nor can the pto handle more than 1000 pounds, but it is very handy in gardening and loading small items.
You are correct though. And, today, I would get a track tractor with a heavier bucket, but this size JD is perfect for learning.

Climate change is controlled primarily by cyclical eccentricities in Earth's rotation and orbit, as well as variations in the sun's energy output.

Why?
The same technology doesnt cost you less, just because the engine is at 3 liters instead of 12, and the tires use a little less rubber.
For the use, maybe they need it in ther garden, or when diggin ditches and other smaller tasks.
You see more and more of these smaller machines, just like Bobcats etc.
