BTW, the video shows that in 2006, 40% of total income taxes come from the top 1%, and 71% of total income taxes come from the top 10%. Half of Americans pay no income tax, and actually get rebate checks from those with more (and who pay more).
Capital gains is another issue. Increase that and people might not invest in the US. More jobs for China?
i'm not buying this rhetoric. am i supposed to sympathize for the top 1% of tax payers because they fork over a meager 40% of their taxes? how much does that still leave them with? really.
like i really feel bad because richy rich isn't getting everything he 'works so hard' for. bs
try living down here in the real world you fucking glutton pigs. the wealthy may have money, but they don't have numbers like us cattle (middle and lower class) folk do. be THANKFUL we let you have that 40%.
@Tyco200 So Tyco200, how many books have you written that made the NY Times best seller list? How long has your syndicated radio show been running for? Tell me, Tyco200, how many people watched your television show at 5PM? The last time you held a public event, did an estimated 87,000 people attend it? Where's your website? Oh, you don't have any of these? Well, I guess now we really know that its you who's the idiot.
wow these idiots can't even form a decent argument!!! "% of TOTAL Income Tax" Top 1% - 40% Top 10% - 71% 40 + 71 = 111%!!! With calculations like these; it's no wonder we have such a large national debt!
Why did they put Benjamin Franklin in an Economic video? Benjamin Franklin was a man who put his energy into things such as discussing liberty and political freedom, not Economics. Capitalism wasn't even dynamic until the Industrial Age in America, long after BF's death. Last, you shed Marx into a very negative category. If it weren't for Marx, things such as Unions and worker's rights would be kept to a minimum. Marx believed Capitalism would fall on its own as a result of the lack of rights
@TheRationalist76 There shouldnt be any laws against firing people who are in unions, nor those who want rights. 'political freedom and liberty' equals economics. Marx got it allmost right; socialism falls due too much rights.
Couple of things. Progressive taxation is an idea Adam Smith promoted, classical economist and free market champion Adam Smith.
Second, the charts are meaningless. If the only person taxed in the US was bill gates, and he was taxed $1, then the rich would pay 100% of taxes and everyone else would pay 0%. But that doesn't tell you anything about share of the wealth in relation to the government's need to provide services.
Also, income is not how most of the wealthy grow their wealth.
@Hoschi0913 Even the most extreme free market libertarian generally agrees the government has to provide the service of protecting property rights and enforcing contracts. That's a need.
I don't understand your second question, what is it in response to? I never said what the wealthy should do to grow their wealth, i was talking about the charts.
@Hoschi0913 Oh oops I missed the last part of my comment, it's been a while since I wrote it. I was referring to income as recognized by the IRS. Much of the wealthy grow their wealth through capital gains which is not considered income and is not taxed as income or included in income tax charts.
well when it is "missing" in the tax charts,it is not the wealthy's fault right, which also means anyone can take advantage of it,not only the wealthy,my point is ,why bashing those "rich" / wealthy guys ,when others do not pay any tax (income tax) at all, unless everyone pays income tax, nobody should blame some one other for not paying enough nor paying nothing, thats why iam for an equal / fair tax in which everyone pays some % out of their earnings, regardless on how much anualy
The one thing i don't get about these tea partiers..they preach free market but hate the Chinese, or illegal workers? Hm..the Chinese are working their economy and will become a real competitor, putting many of them outta business. And companies hire illegal workers because it is cheaper.
But that screams unregulated, completely free market right there!
So I guess even Tea Partiers want some kind of socialism too. To sacrifice liberties to gain economic securities.
@LordKaisen: If you think that what goes on in communist China has anything to do w/ a free market, you really are quite clueless. The PRC is more a fascist gov't now, theire policy hardly distinguishable from Mussollini's corporatism. Basically the Chinese people are little more then slaves working for the handful of men who run the Communist Party of China. As for illegal immigrants, they've become a major burden our state run social welfare system. What is free market about any of this?
@AndroidPolitician Rich people provide jobs and fund most of the government. Most rich people have gotten there because they provided something of value to society. So you can demagogue the rich all you want for owning so much wealth, but I like my tech savvy Apple Computer and affordable Ford truck. Thanks ambitious rich people.
There were more jobs and a better overall economy when we taxed the rich more from the 40s to the 60s so if you're argument is that the need more room to do whatever they want that's wrong.
Also them "fund[ing] most of the government" would be true even if we had a flat tax, they own most of the income that's taxed.
Well, considering that the top 10% control about 80% of the wealth, the 71% of the income tax that they pay don't really look that much anymore. Also, even if we had a completely flat tax system, the rich would still pay a higher percentage of the national income tax than the poor. And how are the poor supposed to pay taxes if they have no money? That makes about so much sense. Glenn Beck is an idiot and he really shouldn't claim to be smarter than Karl Marx.
@SomeoneCrazy2 The point is the poor don't have any skin in the game and 1/2 of the population is supporting the other, yet still that half is being criticized. If the lower income earners had to pay taxes, then they would be more obliged not to ask for higher taxes and force government to function more efficiently. The rich are not only paying for government and providing a service to society, they are also taking care of the poor. And I think many people are smarter than the racist Karl Marx
@Truthman23 We already have more than enough to allow everybody on this planet to lead a decent life, but instead of providing for everyone, we waste, overproduce, and invent products that nobody needs. And why? Because the few that control the means of production make more off of that than off of fulfilling the needs of society. Also, for the rich to exist there always have to be the poor, because the more the workers work for less money, the more the capitalists make.
@SomeoneCrazy2 Invent products nobody need? How about the computer you are using? Or glasses you wear? You take for granted the people that bust their ass so you can have some sort of decent standard of living at an affordable price. The key word is "control". Who gets to control the means of production in your mind? The government? Perfect angels like you? No. Capitalism puts the wealth in the hands of the people. There are more "poor" in Cuba then rich or middle class. And the list goes on.
@Truthman23 Capitalism puts the wealth in the hands of a few, who get rich off of the work of others. In true socialism, the means of production would be controlled by the people. In Cuba, they are not, which has to be changed if they want to achieve true socialism. Although it is really hypocritical to point at Cuba and say "See how poor they are", when most of their poverty is due to the trade embargo.
@SomeoneCrazy2Capitalism puts wealth in the hands of the risk takers and the workers. Bill Gates, Ted Turner, hell even hypocrite Michael Moore, all risk takers that reaped the rewards of putting their balls on the line. And Bill gates is giving away is fortune to charities when he dies. Now tell me, would you rather have that wealth not be created, and you not have windows? Then the poor who benefits from gates doesn't get any of his wealth. And as we both know, government doesn't create wealth
@Truthman23 Capitalism puts wealth in the hands of the workers? No. It puts wealth in the hands of those who let others work for them. The workers are the ones that produce all the wealth there is, yet they are only paid the amount of money that keeps them from quitting (or starving, in some cases). The rest the capitalist, who does not work, takes for himself. And charity doesn't change a thing about that.
@SomeoneCrazy2 Did owners of companies just start 1 day and turn it into Wal-Mart or McDonalds in 24 hrs? Or did they work their ass off for their company and out smart other competition to create a better and cheaper product? You seem to think companies are made over night. And that people don't have good jobs and lives working for business owners. If people are getting screwed by the business owner, go to another business or start your own. Thats what freedom is.
@Truthman23 The problem is that all profits are based on exploitation. The value of each product can be measured in the time the worker takes to produce it (socially necessary labor time). Most companies produce at about socially necessary labor time, so the only way they can really make a profit is by paying their workers less than what would compensate for the time they work. Thus, all capitalists automatically exploit their workers. And no, I am for freedom, you are for control.
@Truthman23 The three main characteristics of capitalism (that you learn in every High School Economics course, btw) are private property, competition and entrepreneurship. All of those exist in Greece. Marx adds wage labor, and production for exchange rather than for use to that. Both exist in Greece. Would you please explain to me how Greece is not capitalist?
@Truthman23 Products nobody needs are of course not things like computers and glasses, but things like the newest chewing gum, soda that only tastes good because they make commercials where they tell you that it creates happiness, you know what I mean? There's so much stuff on the market that absolutely nobody needs, but we waste our resources on it anyways.
@Some Oh I see. So YOU get to decide what is deemed useful, how fascist of you. Of course computers and glasses are useful. But when they were being worked on for the first time I'm sure people said what is the point? You fail to see that people tend to stumble on inventions and solutions for society while trying to invent something else. I mean why create new chewing gum? It's not like somebody took regular chewing gum and created a way to quit smoking with it for the benefit of society. oh wait.
@Truthman23 The problem is that in capitalism, producers don't care about what people need, they care about what they can make the best profit with. And most of the time they just produce something nobody needs, then make people believe that they need it, and then laugh about how stupid people are while they are making lots of money. If we would produce directly for use rather than for exchange, we could eliminate all that waste and everybody in society would benefit much more.
@SomeoneCrazy2 Is it the fault of the product creator or product buyer for purchasing an useless product? People have to be educated enough or street smart enough to know what they deem necessary and useful. You act as if people are to stupid to breathe. Look, it was an interesting discourse. But you repeat the same tired argument of failed applied societies. I'm for freedom, your for control. Good luck to u.
@Truthman23 In short, the rich are the very reason the poor exist. And again, how is someone who barely has any money to support himself supposed to pay taxes? And how on earth was Karl Marx a racist? Communism is the most internationalist, most anti-racist ideology there is. Racism was created by the ruling class to divide the workers among themselves so they will fight each other instead of uniting to fight against their real enemy, the capitalist class.
@SomeoneCrazy2 Wow. You have a lot of research to do. Go see what Karl Marx said about the annexation of California(the Mexicans), his thoughts on blacks, and Jews. Communism along with socialism is the most racist and some parts anti-gay systems in the world. A poor person in America is more likely to be over weight, have a TV, and have air conditioning. You ask an avg African or Asian, this would be considered high middle class or rich. Racism is created by big government lovers.
@Truthman23 So I looked up this thing about the Jews, and the only thing he did was criticize their religion, as he criticized every religion. He never said jews were a race or anything (they are not), and he was from a Jewish family himself. True communists despise all forms of racism and support gay equality (for the reasons I mentioned earlier). I'm not sure where you get your information?
@Truthman23 About the poor in America, I doubt what you say is true. Have you ever been to New York City? But anyway, I wasn't really talking about America, I was talking about the whole world, as today you can only look at capitalism as a global system. You only have to look at Africa and Asia to see the horrors capitalism creates.
@SomeoneCrazy2 You look at Africa and Asia to see what Fascism and Militarism creates. How about South Africa? How is that doing compared to the rest of the Continent? As for the poor in America, do some basic research. At the end of the day, you "think" rich hold all the wealth in Capitalism. Suppose we go to your utopia dreamland of Communism. Who distributes the wealth? Who deems what is fair? Should blacks and women get more because of their past injustices? What about Jews? Ignorance.
@Truthman23 You forget that fascism and militarism are a direct offspring of capitalism. They are created by the ruling class to better exploit the people. In communism, as the people would control the means of production, they will distribute the wealth among themselves, from each according to his ability to each according to his need.
@SomeoneCrazy2 "from each according to his ability to each according to his need." Are you serious? So people will just start giving their production to people that need it? 1. how is that any different from Capitalists who give Billions to the poor each year. 2. Just because a country switches to Communism or Socialism, people don't change how they treat people. Socialism doesn't work. Ask Greece. Ask Spain. You have a very naive. People are in it for themselves, no matter what economic system
@Truthman23 People will not just start giving their production to people that need it, they will form communes, decide on what they need, and then produce it. Socialism doesn't work? Socialism is the basic form of human life, before civilzation it existed everywhere. You can still see what is left of that in the families we have today. They are socialist in nature (I made a video about that). And Greece and Spain are both capitalist.
Glenn Beck saying Marx was an idiot? Oh, the irony.
You may not agree with his philosophy, but he HAD a fucking philosophy!
What new brilliant ideas is Glenn Beck coming up with?
I mean, the closest idea to politics I could follow is anarchism, and I probably don't even agree with Marx's ideas, but I'd rather read his shit over Becks.
Vladimir Lenin was fluent in Russian , German and French reiceved comendible grades and rebuilt Russia with not much more then human leabor and an old British tank Glen Beck on the other hand is literally a morman
Karl Marx wasnt stupid, he was evil. The people who think he is anything less than evil are the stupid ones. Socialism in any form is pure evil because it tricks the masses into giving up their sovereign independence and transfers that power to the state. It is not about helping people it is about power under the guise of good intentions. Pure insidious evil and anyone who does not understand that is naive at best. Even though I dont always agree with Beck I thank God everyday he is on tv.
@Astrochronic Lol He was evil ? you capatlists are evil and when the red banner flies over your nation as you try to bitch struggling to speak with all your teeth nocked out fo yourr face from an ak47 butt to your jaw as we reposes your home and throw u in a gulag JKSNAWH i am a marxist but ur comment was just stuppid man
Karl Marx was absolutely anything but an idiot. Even his Manifesto is probably of too-high a vocabulary level for Beck to read, and it was his only book geared towards the proletariat. Absolutely astounding.
the rich are paying 90 percent of our taxes here but if you think that the rich are not paying enough dont go after the good rich that are paying 90 percent of our taxes
go after gorge sorios who dose not pay a dime instead he is trying to destroy the constitution and Glenn beck or any other conservative in the united states
@xxksaoXX your the one who is an idiot if you dont like capitalism the you should try going to Russia or china iam petty sure they will except you there
@plotiaonrocha8596 Well if I was the idiot you claimed I was I would probably do that; however: 1.) Both Russia and the PRC have fully implemented Capitalist systems 2.) Democracy does exist in either of those countries, so I would not go there.
I do not need to be Socialist to understand the Beck is an idiot, he has absolutly no comprehension of what Socialism is. Like the majority of people who watch Fox news and believe it, their completely braindead.
Russia and China have crony capitalism, not real capitalism. America had real capitalism until around 1913 (Federal reserve founded, income tax constitutionalized).
@ThorkilKowalski Russia is steeped in Capitalism and So is the PRC. Private Corperations dominate the political strength of Russia at the moment. And there are many of such corperations in the PRC at this time, however not as powerful.
The US is the hight of free market trade, it hasnt got anything to do with taxes. Taxes do not decide whether the market is free, and those taxes for the bombs you build to drop on oil rich countries, so be thankful. Have you forgotten Herbert Hoover time in power
There are actually think-tanks which puts a number on economic freedom (more economic freedom=more capitalistic). Heritage Foundation does this. Google "index of economic freedom". You will see that Russia and China are not very free. And that the US has fallen a lot, lately.
That the political system is run by big corporations has nothing to do with economic freedom or capitalism. On the contrary, that system is called corporatism and it is an anti-thesis to capitalism.
@ThorkilKowalski Capitalism, is in essecence a system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for profit. This is what you have in these countries and in your own.
Corporatism is not anti-thesis of capitalism, it is the embodiement of unrestricted capitalism; and grows exponentially in countries that do not have any restriction. It leads to undemocratic governance and if left to fester, corruption.
If you want to know the ant-thesis of Capitalism, Google Communism.
"An economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit."
In corporatism, the government and corporations are partners and the trade is thus restricted by big companies through the government. Companies thus use the government as their tool to get unfair advantages and keep new players from entering the market thus stifling competition, reducing innovation and driving up prices.
@ThorkilKowalski No that is not the case. Unrestricted capitalism leads to Corporatism, it is a product of Capitalism not the opposite. In the Capitalist system the means of production (industry, infrastructure etc) are owned and run privately. Capitalism does not necessarily mean fairness, when you reduce competition it is still capitalism but has very little 'Fair/Free Trade'.
Apart from full nationalisation of industry, there arnt set things that adhered to for a state to be capitalist
You are not totally wrong. Big corporations sometimes try to use the government to shut the door for other people entering their markets. In that way capitalism CAN lead to corporatism but it doesn't have to. America had quite unrestricted capitalism for about 130 years (1783 to 1913). But then progressives and big banks went together and created the Fed which helps Wall Street and destroys the middle class.
@ThorkilKowalski Look at American politics today, successive Republican governments have led to need for prospective governments to have large Corps on side, as well as this government is pretty much under the control of different lobbies (such as the Israel Lobby) which not only undermines democratic procedure/precedence, it also allows Israel to conduct illegal operations.
This conclusion about the middle class, isnt correct; if there is a destruction of middle class thank the corps/big buisne
Your comment is so wrong, I hardly know where to start.
-
Only the government has the power to destroy the middle class. Corporations do not have that power. Corporations cannot destroy the value of the dollar. Only the federal reserve can. And the destruction of the dollar will destroy the middle class. Just look at Zimbabwe.
@ThorkilKowalski Yes, Government does have the power in economic affairs, however they dont intervene for the sake of it.
Corperations hold massive amounts of power, and to a large extent decide the value of currency. Although they don't do so directly. The value of Currency does not solely rest in the hands of the federal reserve or the government, it must adhere to international rules for example.
@xxksaoXX 1. There is nothing wrong with Corporations , as long as their not tied in with government. Please don't combine pure capitalism with Corporatism (which goes on in Russia and indirectly in US). China has moved to more of a free market based economy (politically still oppressed) and has grown immensely.
@xxksaoXX 2.Are you serious?Taxes play a major role in the free market (along with regulation). Here in NY state tobacco and gasoline is taxed up the ass. People don't have the same choices as other states and countries.Choice is a key component to free markets and taxes definitely affect competition. Also you make fun of Hoover, but remember which President resided over the longest Depression in US history. FDR, who helped introduce payroll taxes and passed on his huge spending onto the states
@xxksaoXX Wow that was so original and funny. Also all the substance in your remarks are breathtaking. I mean its almost like your one of the idiots he is talking about. How odd and ironic.
The reason why the rich pay a huge chunk of the income tax is because they hold the vast majority of wealth. The government needs their tax revenues, and they are going to go after people who are hogging their money as opposed to investing it.
If the rich doesn't want to carry the burden, they can use their money to create jobs so they transfer their wealth to the middle/lower class so they pay taxes.
All this information really tells me is that the rich in America are hoarding it.
this is the ghost of max, and i am not poor, i own a house in every nation of the world and getting marry to all the pricnness of every royal farimly. i'm also the vice persient of google. and i'm no longer a commuist that was this a fad. this keeping you inform Glenn Bleck and those that had wacth you miss-ledding vidoe portriedal of me
Progressive taxes were part of the social concession that pure capitalism made to offer an alternative route to communist rebellion.
Labor unions are part of the socialist revolution that raised the living standards of the working class, and along with the voice they gave to the workers, came concepts such as progressive taxation, minimum wages, Health and Safety standards etc.
He spelled "arguing" wrong. He should have spelled it "aрguing", if he wanted to look clever by using Cyrillic characters, even though Capitalism has existed in regions that use that alphabet longer than Socialism has.
This is absolutely how capitalist propaganda works. First, label the opposition as uneducated buffoons. Then, make them 'say' ridiculous lines to further their false stupidity. And finally, give out random statistics that do not show anything, other than how Americans do practise a form of socialism - income tax that goes to public works.
@unifieddynasty Well, I'd agree with the first parts: Everyone has valid reasons to justify their views, like I do. But the last part isn't true: Just search over on the internet, not just this video says that the top 50% pay 97%, a good chunk of other sites say so, all taking stats from the IRS. And you realize that some money goes into unnecessary wars overseas, some subsidies to businesses who won't make profit at all and bailouts, right? All of which will probably be wasted anyways.
@Denon333dash888 Yes, the statistics are correct. But I was referring to Beck's use of such statistics. This model of income tax perfectly aligns with socialism, where each person contributes according to their ability. I just don't like how Beck has manipulated such a harmless statistic to go back against what it truly represents.
@unifieddynasty "Where each person contributes according to his ability"
Wait, so a tax that is progressive, meaning that the higher the income, the higher the percentage rate and the nominal amount? Doesn't sound like a system according to their ability, that would be a flat tax, where people will at least get to keep a good portion without it going to someone else.
As for the last part, like I said, I do agree that Beck goes far with the phrase 'Idiot'. No one that supports a different view
@unifieddynasty "Think of it this way; the people who can provide more also provide for those who can't."
So, in other words, if you are rich, even if you worked for the money for yourself, not for others, you should just give anyway? How is it fair? For the others, I guess OK.
thats called bullshit why is he making the person who doesn't agree with him a retarded pothead just because he doesn't want the rich to get tax cuts hes an idiot?
the problem being that the top five percent dont pay taxes lol. they usually get huge tax cuts and/or put their money in tax shelters or hedgefunds where it can't be touched.
No point in arguing with republicans. These people are brainwashed and stupid.
You can't win in a debate with a person not in your reality. The sooner you people understand that the better. Stupidity cannot be fixed.
Republicans/Christians by connection substitute intellectual reality with a 2000 year old book that is edited every 10 years by random publishing houses anonymously. These people are functioning retards. Why bother arguing with them? Let them Follow Glenn Beck. Why should we care?
I love how Glenn Beck labels Karl Marx as an idiot because of differing political ideas. That shows just how Republicans are. If you don't agree with them, you must be an atheist, communist, Nazi, illegal immigrant. If Karl Marx was an idiot he couldn't have succesfully created a new form of economic system. He was an important philosopher in the history of mankind, such as Socrates or Aristotle. Of course, though, Republicans can't acknowledge that because he has different political ideas.
Karl was the one along with Engles who co-wrote the Communist Manifesto is responsible for over 70 million deaths. socialism doesn't work. And yes, Republican have different political beliefs just like the Democrats. Karl didn't believe in property rights, as well as; republicanism. Communism and socialism doesn't work. As I recall the soviet economy was always sluggish or stagnant. Please try again. This time be original and don't parrot socialistic slogans.
@RevRabbiJCG Marx, although his system of economics was a great failure, was an important political philosopher in the history of mankind. I also see no socialistic slogans. Everything I write is original or a quotation. You clearly fail to realize that. Of couse, because I disagree with you you resort to calling me a communist. I should've expected it. Thus proving my point. Thank you, for irrationaly commenting on a logical and rational statement.
Ummm, I see you missed some of my talking points. Again I say, communism while might look good on paper, in reality doesn't work. Marxism/ Leninism does not work. Doth thou understandeth thee? Marx advocated the total abolition of property rights, he also didn't believe in any sort of religion hence no need for church or clergy. If you own a Kindle you can download a copy of the Communist Manifesto for the kindle for free. I had to opportunity to download it onto my Kindle for the PC.
Thee is interchangeable with thou. You may want to touch up on ye olde anglisk skills.
"Marx advocated the total abolition of property rights,"
Bullshit. In his 'utopia', he believed there would be no need for personal property, as everyone had everything abundantly. However, he also viewed it impractical in the current world to totally abolish all forms of private property (Including but not limited to toothbrushes, pictures, and mothers).
@RevRabbiJCG "he also didn't believe in any sort of religion hence no need for church or clergy"
Marx debated on "ORGANISED RELIGION". One of the most sensible things that humans can do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with humans claiming to be messengers of god, thereby given supreme authority over all other believers. I crack myself up sometimes. Oh, and let us not forget that conflicting religions have been the single most dividing force in the history of humankind.
@RevRabbiJCG "If you own a Kindle you can download a copy of the Communist Manifesto for the kindle for free. "
Thank you for practising public property. Now wasn't it helpful?
On a sidenote, I expected you to be more truthful of your dictations of Marxist thought. You did read the Communist Manifesto thoroughly, before you denounced it, right? I know that before I criticized neo-Nazis, I had first reviewed Mein Kempf (Or whatever sensibility within it).
Marx was also an apostate Jew who converted to Lutheran( his parents might've converted when he was a youth, please look it up for any further clarifications) Shall I go on GFed? I wasn't calling you any names, however, since you seen to give praise to someone who didn't see his work come to fruition during his lifetime, and had Lenin explain why Marxism didn't work and make a try at it on how own. As in other words, if the shoe, fits wear it. Oh, btw, Glenn Beck is a commentator.
@tophu1021 At least the person who made $1 would actually have to pay something instead of not contributing at all, at least with income tax. You make it sound like the person who makes $1,000,000 is evil for being smart enough to make all that money. Why can't you just be happy for those who succeed, rather than demonizing them? Besides, its not like that $0.10 could do much. Why not pick a reasonable income like $20,000? Considering even beggars can make that much (though its not taxable).
I'm not demonizing anybody!! I'm making the point about how percentages work. I think every should be making $1,000,000 BUT everyone should be giving their fair share in taxes. None of this corporate loophole bullshit. Many large corporations haven't paid ANY taxes. Then, people complain about the deficit while telling the people who don't pay taxes, "Don't worry, you create jobs don't worry about paying your fair share". That's bullshit.
@tophu1021 I agree that everyone should pay their taxes, but that's not just limited to the rich, since they still pay a HUGE percentage of collected income taxes.. I just find it ironic that people want to raise the tax percentages on one group when a massive part of the population pays nothing still..chances are, those who want higher taxes pay very little to none themselves.
That's why I was talking about percentages. The reason rich PAY more is because they EARN more. The poor don't pay any taxes because they don't earn anything. That's how income tax works. I don't want taxes lowered because since Reagan it's been creating a deficit. How are we currently trying to alleviate that deficit? MORE tax-cuts. Btw, nobody wants to "RAISE" taxes on one group, most people want the tax CUTS to be rolled-back. There is a difference.
@tophu1021 So because they were successful, you expect them to be Atlas - bearing the vast majority of the burden of income taxes? They would still PAY more if it was just a flat tax. Just because they can pay more, does that mean they should?.. Reagan also raised taxes elsewhere and actually increased the tax revenue, despite there being a 70% income tax on the highest bracket under Johnson.
You can make $50,000 a year, and given the right circumstances, MAKE a few bucks from the IRS.
@tophu1021 (cont.) Sorry, bad wording on my part. But the reason "most" people want the tax cuts to be rolled back for the wealthy is because nearly half of Americans have no skin in the game - they don't have to even pay, so it doesn't even affect them. I think its just screwed up that people who pay nothing still demand that others to pay more. If you told those people that it'd mean they would have to actually pay income taxes too or that it'd increase theirs too, they'd suddenly shift sides.
Investor and multi-billionaire Warren Buffett has criticized the U.S. tax code as highly regressive, citing himself as an example: with an income of over $46 million, Buffet pays a tax rate of 17.7 percent, whereas his receptionist pays a tax rate of 30 percent
Arguing that progressive taxes already exist doesn't prove that progressive taxes are bad, nor has franklin provided an argument why the current level and distribution of taxation is or is not appropriate.
There was no real argumentation, only a factually incorrect smearing of Karl Marx.
a recent study that shows the nation's poor give at a higher percentage than the wealthiest.
Findings by the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that the poorest fifth of U.S. households contributed an average of 4.3 percent of their incomes to charitable organizations in 2007, while the richest fifth gave at less than half that rate, 2.1 percent, according to a Seattle Times report.

I am proud to be Republican, I read this amazing book and you should take a look if you think so differently about Beck. Glenn isn't a bad guy, Obama is the bad guy.
I love how Glenn Beck puts Ben Franklin as the "smart" one in these videos, AS IF he knows exactly what Ben Franklin's positions would be on the key issues of today, or to somehow imply that Ben Franklin was just a 1700s version of Beck. COME ON, dude. Your ego is so inflated. Can someone pop that balloon?
What does this prove?? OF COURSE the wealthiest people, who make way more money than the middle class, are going to pay the vast majority of income taxes. But their current federal income tax rate is only 35% at the moment. Now, I'm not the hugest fan of progressive taxation, but it's not like you couldn't raise it, say, 5-10%, without dire consequences. It's not like going from 35 to 75%. or 80%. Taxes are far lower, even in the clinton years, than they used to be.
Even with a flat tax, the ultra-rich would still be paying relatively huge sums of money. This video is trying to draw a parallel without acknowledging the millions/billions that the top 1% earn.
I think, at least for my own reasoning, i don't take marx that serious because he looked at religion as an underlying plot by the government to oppress people and keep them from revolting (because its not like that stupid democracy thing works) and to keep them locked into evil "CAPITALISM" DUH DUH DUH (Scary sounds from movies)
When I saw this video, I thought someone might have created a honest situation using the merits and beliefs of both of these men, rather than a puppet show in which both characters are portrayed out of historical context, without use of their own ideas and both are shown to be idiots. This is just sad.
i hate liberals soooo much , they founded america created the prinicples we live by , freed the slaves got women the vote....and now the bastards are trying to make everyone healthy....FOR FREE....CAN U BELIVE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@stukya the difference is that European is the original with smaller government he would be considered Libertian in US a liberal in US is a socialist/lefty in Europe
@Borgerlig64er the point i want to make is in the US if your left, liberal or socialist then your amount to a communist. i look at this video and think its so stupid. glenn beck works for a news channel! im english and we have rules regarding impartiality in the media.
@stukya The founders were as conservative as it gets (look up that word, if its too hard to spell for you just copy and paste), and the republicans (ex. Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant) were the ones who fought to end slavery, and the womans right movements came from the theory behind abolitionism. Thomas jefferson, james maddison, John quincy adams, James monroe were all registered republicans. And for healthcare, England has free healthecare, But the Tax rate is 50%, Nothing is ever free.
@harriet807 look im not american, but i love the idea of america. liberalism is reform you cant deny that these issues were not the largest refroms in your history
@stukya True, but such a drastic change to our homeland should'nt happen, the constitution was based off of many documents like the magna carta and even the rules of Hammurabi. They were changes and they were great, excellent for america, but no one wins with healthcare. And by the way, the text book definition of Liberalism is abolishment of traditions and a stronger, authoritarian central government. I also love the idea of America
@harriet807 you dont have to abolish traditions, if we dont continually set the bar higher, society stagnates or even moves backwards. and with the speed of technoligical advancement and changes in family life a 300yr old document cant hope to address these.so you have amendments and court set precedents. can i ask respectfully? that saying such drastic changes as equal rightsshouldnt happen, doesnt this mean the constitution has failed in protecting the rights of citizens?
When the idiots in the United Stastes say "We want to undo", "We want to return to America of yesterday".
Well I can tell you that America: suspended interracial marriage, full segregation because oooh no the federal govt. should have nothing to do with the state laws. Forget any kind fo support when Walmart fucking sacks you and moves to China. Omg a communist country? Ofc choose them infront of the American blue collar, you cost them too much. Idiots. -.-
Never knew the 1860's Republican party was "liberal." Never knew the founders were liberals either. I'm learning so much, could you please elaborate some more?
@regelemihai how is aboloshing slavery not a liberal view, how is it not progressive to create a constitutional rupublic in a time when monachy and empire ruled the world, liberal isnt an absolute, doesnt heir beck teach you about tom paine
It depends on how you're defining "liberal" then. If it's the same liberal concept of today then you're mistaken. The democratic party was the one advocating slavery. All black political activists after the Civil War were Republicans.
% of income tax in terms of dollars? Even if there was a FLAT INCOME TAX RATE, simple math would tell you that IF there was an even distribution of income from 0 to w/e the max is, the top 50% would pay 3x the income tax of the bottom half. Draw a simple triangle and cut it in half in the x axis if you don't get what I mean. Thats 75% of the taxes at a FLAT TAX RATE, in a PERFECTLY BALANCED CAPITALIST SOCIETY. More imbalanced society is the higher that % goes. Again, no real point is made here.
Marx strongly believed in "false consciousness" which is the belief that people are "tricked" into believing that the quality of their life is a direct result of capitalsim. This idea that capitalism misleads people runs throughout many of the books he wrote, so I'm not sure how people could miss it. I was not tricked into anything--capitalism works.
How can he just assume Ben Franklin would have not accepted Marx's ideas, when Franklin died before he ever could have read anything regarding his theories? And since when did Marx become a stoned surfer guy instead of an intellectual?
BTW, the video shows that in 2006, 40% of total income taxes come from the top 1%, and 71% of total income taxes come from the top 10%. Half of Americans pay no income tax, and actually get rebate checks from those with more (and who pay more).
Capital gains is another issue. Increase that and people might not invest in the US. More jobs for China?

i'm not buying this rhetoric. am i supposed to sympathize for the top 1% of tax payers because they fork over a meager 40% of their taxes? how much does that still leave them with? really.

TheRationalist76 7 months ago
@TheRationalist76 There shouldnt be any laws against firing people who are in unions, nor those who want rights. 'political freedom and liberty' equals economics. Marx got it allmost right; socialism falls due too much rights.
larsiemannen 6 months ago
Will this book help me win in an argument against Glenn Beck then?
TheRationalist76 7 months ago
Couple of things. Progressive taxation is an idea Adam Smith promoted, classical economist and free market champion Adam Smith.
Second, the charts are meaningless. If the only person taxed in the US was bill gates, and he was taxed $1, then the rich would pay 100% of taxes and everyone else would pay 0%. But that doesn't tell you anything about share of the wealth in relation to the government's need to provide services.
Also, income is not how most of the wealthy grow their wealth.
nerfmyaccount 7 months ago
@nerfmyaccount
2 questions......1 what services "need" the gov't to provide and 2 how else do the wealthy "grow" their wealth if not with income?
Hoschi0913 5 months ago
@Hoschi0913 Even the most extreme free market libertarian generally agrees the government has to provide the service of protecting property rights and enforcing contracts. That's a need.
I don't understand your second question, what is it in response to? I never said what the wealthy should do to grow their wealth, i was talking about the charts.
nerfmyaccount 5 months ago
@Hoschi0913 Oh oops I missed the last part of my comment, it's been a while since I wrote it. I was referring to income as recognized by the IRS. Much of the wealthy grow their wealth through capital gains which is not considered income and is not taxed as income or included in income tax charts.
nerfmyaccount 5 months ago
@nerfmyaccount
well when it is "missing" in the tax charts,it is not the wealthy's fault right, which also means anyone can take advantage of it,not only the wealthy,my point is ,why bashing those "rich" / wealthy guys ,when others do not pay any tax (income tax) at all, unless everyone pays income tax, nobody should blame some one other for not paying enough nor paying nothing, thats why iam for an equal / fair tax in which everyone pays some % out of their earnings, regardless on how much anualy
Hoschi0913 5 months ago

The one thing i don't get about these tea partiers..they preach free market but hate the Chinese, or illegal workers? Hm..the Chinese are working their economy and will become a real competitor, putting many of them outta business. And companies hire illegal workers because it is cheaper.
But that screams unregulated, completely free market right there!
So I guess even Tea Partiers want some kind of socialism too. To sacrifice liberties to gain economic securities.
LordKaisen 8 months ago
@LordKaisen: If you think that what goes on in communist China has anything to do w/ a free market, you really are quite clueless. The PRC is more a fascist gov't now, theire policy hardly distinguishable from Mussollini's corporatism. Basically the Chinese people are little more then slaves working for the handful of men who run the Communist Party of China. As for illegal immigrants, they've become a major burden our state run social welfare system. What is free market about any of this?

This is the dumbest video ever, the top 1% paid 40% in taxes because they own close to 40% of the nation's income.
Even if the US had a flat tax the wealthy would be paying 40% in income taxes since they own all the income.
AndroidPolitician 8 months ago
@AndroidPolitician Rich people provide jobs and fund most of the government. Most rich people have gotten there because they provided something of value to society. So you can demagogue the rich all you want for owning so much wealth, but I like my tech savvy Apple Computer and affordable Ford truck. Thanks ambitious rich people.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23
There were more jobs and a better overall economy when we taxed the rich more from the 40s to the 60s so if you're argument is that the need more room to do whatever they want that's wrong.
Also them "fund[ing] most of the government" would be true even if we had a flat tax, they own most of the income that's taxed.
AndroidPolitician 8 months ago
Well, considering that the top 10% control about 80% of the wealth, the 71% of the income tax that they pay don't really look that much anymore. Also, even if we had a completely flat tax system, the rich would still pay a higher percentage of the national income tax than the poor. And how are the poor supposed to pay taxes if they have no money? That makes about so much sense. Glenn Beck is an idiot and he really shouldn't claim to be smarter than Karl Marx.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 The point is the poor don't have any skin in the game and 1/2 of the population is supporting the other, yet still that half is being criticized. If the lower income earners had to pay taxes, then they would be more obliged not to ask for higher taxes and force government to function more efficiently. The rich are not only paying for government and providing a service to society, they are also taking care of the poor. And I think many people are smarter than the racist Karl Marx
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 We already have more than enough to allow everybody on this planet to lead a decent life, but instead of providing for everyone, we waste, overproduce, and invent products that nobody needs. And why? Because the few that control the means of production make more off of that than off of fulfilling the needs of society. Also, for the rich to exist there always have to be the poor, because the more the workers work for less money, the more the capitalists make.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 Invent products nobody need? How about the computer you are using? Or glasses you wear? You take for granted the people that bust their ass so you can have some sort of decent standard of living at an affordable price. The key word is "control". Who gets to control the means of production in your mind? The government? Perfect angels like you? No. Capitalism puts the wealth in the hands of the people. There are more "poor" in Cuba then rich or middle class. And the list goes on.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 Capitalism puts the wealth in the hands of a few, who get rich off of the work of others. In true socialism, the means of production would be controlled by the people. In Cuba, they are not, which has to be changed if they want to achieve true socialism. Although it is really hypocritical to point at Cuba and say "See how poor they are", when most of their poverty is due to the trade embargo.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2Capitalism puts wealth in the hands of the risk takers and the workers. Bill Gates, Ted Turner, hell even hypocrite Michael Moore, all risk takers that reaped the rewards of putting their balls on the line. And Bill gates is giving away is fortune to charities when he dies. Now tell me, would you rather have that wealth not be created, and you not have windows? Then the poor who benefits from gates doesn't get any of his wealth. And as we both know, government doesn't create wealth
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 Capitalism puts wealth in the hands of the workers? No. It puts wealth in the hands of those who let others work for them. The workers are the ones that produce all the wealth there is, yet they are only paid the amount of money that keeps them from quitting (or starving, in some cases). The rest the capitalist, who does not work, takes for himself. And charity doesn't change a thing about that.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 Did owners of companies just start 1 day and turn it into Wal-Mart or McDonalds in 24 hrs? Or did they work their ass off for their company and out smart other competition to create a better and cheaper product? You seem to think companies are made over night. And that people don't have good jobs and lives working for business owners. If people are getting screwed by the business owner, go to another business or start your own. Thats what freedom is.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 The problem is that all profits are based on exploitation. The value of each product can be measured in the time the worker takes to produce it (socially necessary labor time). Most companies produce at about socially necessary labor time, so the only way they can really make a profit is by paying their workers less than what would compensate for the time they work. Thus, all capitalists automatically exploit their workers. And no, I am for freedom, you are for control.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 If you think Greece is capitalistic, I'm not going to waste my time.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 The three main characteristics of capitalism (that you learn in every High School Economics course, btw) are private property, competition and entrepreneurship. All of those exist in Greece. Marx adds wage labor, and production for exchange rather than for use to that. Both exist in Greece. Would you please explain to me how Greece is not capitalist?
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@Truthman23 Products nobody needs are of course not things like computers and glasses, but things like the newest chewing gum, soda that only tastes good because they make commercials where they tell you that it creates happiness, you know what I mean? There's so much stuff on the market that absolutely nobody needs, but we waste our resources on it anyways.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@Some Oh I see. So YOU get to decide what is deemed useful, how fascist of you. Of course computers and glasses are useful. But when they were being worked on for the first time I'm sure people said what is the point? You fail to see that people tend to stumble on inventions and solutions for society while trying to invent something else. I mean why create new chewing gum? It's not like somebody took regular chewing gum and created a way to quit smoking with it for the benefit of society. oh wait.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 The problem is that in capitalism, producers don't care about what people need, they care about what they can make the best profit with. And most of the time they just produce something nobody needs, then make people believe that they need it, and then laugh about how stupid people are while they are making lots of money. If we would produce directly for use rather than for exchange, we could eliminate all that waste and everybody in society would benefit much more.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 Is it the fault of the product creator or product buyer for purchasing an useless product? People have to be educated enough or street smart enough to know what they deem necessary and useful. You act as if people are to stupid to breathe. Look, it was an interesting discourse. But you repeat the same tired argument of failed applied societies. I'm for freedom, your for control. Good luck to u.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 In short, the rich are the very reason the poor exist. And again, how is someone who barely has any money to support himself supposed to pay taxes? And how on earth was Karl Marx a racist? Communism is the most internationalist, most anti-racist ideology there is. Racism was created by the ruling class to divide the workers among themselves so they will fight each other instead of uniting to fight against their real enemy, the capitalist class.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 Wow. You have a lot of research to do. Go see what Karl Marx said about the annexation of California(the Mexicans), his thoughts on blacks, and Jews. Communism along with socialism is the most racist and some parts anti-gay systems in the world. A poor person in America is more likely to be over weight, have a TV, and have air conditioning. You ask an avg African or Asian, this would be considered high middle class or rich. Racism is created by big government lovers.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 So I looked up this thing about the Jews, and the only thing he did was criticize their religion, as he criticized every religion. He never said jews were a race or anything (they are not), and he was from a Jewish family himself. True communists despise all forms of racism and support gay equality (for the reasons I mentioned earlier). I'm not sure where you get your information?
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@Truthman23 About the poor in America, I doubt what you say is true. Have you ever been to New York City? But anyway, I wasn't really talking about America, I was talking about the whole world, as today you can only look at capitalism as a global system. You only have to look at Africa and Asia to see the horrors capitalism creates.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 You look at Africa and Asia to see what Fascism and Militarism creates. How about South Africa? How is that doing compared to the rest of the Continent? As for the poor in America, do some basic research. At the end of the day, you "think" rich hold all the wealth in Capitalism. Suppose we go to your utopia dreamland of Communism. Who distributes the wealth? Who deems what is fair? Should blacks and women get more because of their past injustices? What about Jews? Ignorance.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 You forget that fascism and militarism are a direct offspring of capitalism. They are created by the ruling class to better exploit the people. In communism, as the people would control the means of production, they will distribute the wealth among themselves, from each according to his ability to each according to his need.
SomeoneCrazy2 8 months ago
@SomeoneCrazy2 "from each according to his ability to each according to his need." Are you serious? So people will just start giving their production to people that need it? 1. how is that any different from Capitalists who give Billions to the poor each year. 2. Just because a country switches to Communism or Socialism, people don't change how they treat people. Socialism doesn't work. Ask Greece. Ask Spain. You have a very naive. People are in it for themselves, no matter what economic system
Truthman23 8 months ago
@Truthman23 People will not just start giving their production to people that need it, they will form communes, decide on what they need, and then produce it. Socialism doesn't work? Socialism is the basic form of human life, before civilzation it existed everywhere. You can still see what is left of that in the families we have today. They are socialist in nature (I made a video about that). And Greece and Spain are both capitalist.

Russia and China have crony capitalism, not real capitalism. America had real capitalism until around 1913 (Federal reserve founded, income tax constitutionalized).
ThorkilKowalski 9 months ago
@ThorkilKowalski Russia is steeped in Capitalism and So is the PRC. Private Corperations dominate the political strength of Russia at the moment. And there are many of such corperations in the PRC at this time, however not as powerful.
The US is the hight of free market trade, it hasnt got anything to do with taxes. Taxes do not decide whether the market is free, and those taxes for the bombs you build to drop on oil rich countries, so be thankful. Have you forgotten Herbert Hoover time in power
xxksaoXX 9 months ago 2
@xxksaoXX
ThorkilKowalski 9 months ago
@ThorkilKowalski Capitalism, is in essecence a system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for profit. This is what you have in these countries and in your own.
Corporatism is not anti-thesis of capitalism, it is the embodiement of unrestricted capitalism; and grows exponentially in countries that do not have any restriction. It leads to undemocratic governance and if left to fester, corruption.
If you want to know the ant-thesis of Capitalism, Google Communism.
xxksaoXX 9 months ago
@xxksaoXX
The definition of capitalism is:
"An economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit."
In corporatism, the government and corporations are partners and the trade is thus restricted by big companies through the government. Companies thus use the government as their tool to get unfair advantages and keep new players from entering the market thus stifling competition, reducing innovation and driving up prices.
ThorkilKowalski 9 months ago
@ThorkilKowalski No that is not the case. Unrestricted capitalism leads to Corporatism, it is a product of Capitalism not the opposite. In the Capitalist system the means of production (industry, infrastructure etc) are owned and run privately. Capitalism does not necessarily mean fairness, when you reduce competition it is still capitalism but has very little 'Fair/Free Trade'.
Apart from full nationalisation of industry, there arnt set things that adhered to for a state to be capitalist
xxksaoXX 9 months ago
@xxksaoXX
ThorkilKowalski 9 months ago
@ThorkilKowalski Look at American politics today, successive Republican governments have led to need for prospective governments to have large Corps on side, as well as this government is pretty much under the control of different lobbies (such as the Israel Lobby) which not only undermines democratic procedure/precedence, it also allows Israel to conduct illegal operations.
This conclusion about the middle class, isnt correct; if there is a destruction of middle class thank the corps/big buisne
xxksaoXX 9 months ago
@xxksaoXX
ThorkilKowalski 9 months ago
@ThorkilKowalski Yes, Government does have the power in economic affairs, however they dont intervene for the sake of it.
Corperations hold massive amounts of power, and to a large extent decide the value of currency. Although they don't do so directly. The value of Currency does not solely rest in the hands of the federal reserve or the government, it must adhere to international rules for example.
xxksaoXX 9 months ago
@xxksaoXX
Which international rules?
ThorkilKowalski 9 months ago
@xxksaoXX 1. There is nothing wrong with Corporations , as long as their not tied in with government. Please don't combine pure capitalism with Corporatism (which goes on in Russia and indirectly in US). China has moved to more of a free market based economy (politically still oppressed) and has grown immensely.
Truthman23 8 months ago
@xxksaoXX 2.Are you serious?Taxes play a major role in the free market (along with regulation). Here in NY state tobacco and gasoline is taxed up the ass. People don't have the same choices as other states and countries.Choice is a key component to free markets and taxes definitely affect competition.

This is absolutely how capitalist propaganda works. First, label the opposition as uneducated buffoons. Then, make them 'say' ridiculous lines to further their false stupidity. And finally, give out random statistics that do not show anything, other than how Americans do practise a form of socialism - income tax that goes to public works.
unifieddynasty 11 months ago
@unifieddynasty Well, I'd agree with the first parts: Everyone has valid reasons to justify their views, like I do. But the last part isn't true: Just search over on the internet, not just this video says that the top 50% pay 97%, a good chunk of other sites say so, all taking stats from the IRS. And you realize that some money goes into unnecessary wars overseas, some subsidies to businesses who won't make profit at all and bailouts, right? All of which will probably be wasted anyways.
Denon333dash888 10 months ago
@Denon333dash888 Yes, the statistics are correct. But I was referring to Beck's use of such statistics. This model of income tax perfectly aligns with socialism, where each person contributes according to their ability. I just don't like how Beck has manipulated such a harmless statistic to go back against what it truly represents.
unifieddynasty 10 months ago
@unifieddynasty "Where each person contributes according to his ability"
Wait, so a tax that is progressive, meaning that the higher the income, the higher the percentage rate and the nominal amount? Doesn't sound like a system according to their ability, that would be a flat tax, where people will at least get to keep a good portion without it going to someone else.
As for the last part, like I said, I do agree that Beck goes far with the phrase 'Idiot'. No one that supports a different view
Denon333dash888 10 months ago
@Denon333dash888 cont. would deserve to be called an idiot, which might ideally seem to be wait Glenn is justifying here.
Denon333dash888 10 months ago
@Denon333dash888 "Wait, so a tax that is progressive, meaning that the higher the income, the higher the percentage rate "
Each according to his ability. That is exactly what I mean. This is socialism in action, albeit subversively.
"that would be a flat tax, where people will at least get to keep a good portion without it going to someone else"
That, would be standard and individualistic capitalism.
Think of it this way; the people who can provide more also provide for those who can't.

ScrewGlennBeck 1 year ago
I love how Glenn Beck labels Karl Marx as an idiot because of differing political ideas. That shows just how Republicans are. If you don't agree with them, you must be an atheist, communist, Nazi, illegal immigrant. If Karl Marx was an idiot he couldn't have succesfully created a new form of economic system. He was an important philosopher in the history of mankind, such as Socrates or Aristotle. Of course, though, Republicans can't acknowledge that because he has different political ideas.
GFedFan 1 year ago
@GFedFan
RevRabbiJCG 1 year ago
@RevRabbiJCG Marx, although his system of economics was a great failure, was an important political philosopher in the history of mankind. I also see no socialistic slogans. Everything I write is original or a quotation. You clearly fail to realize that. Of couse, because I disagree with you you resort to calling me a communist. I should've expected it. Thus proving my point. Thank you, for irrationaly commenting on a logical and rational statement.
GFedFan 1 year ago
@GFedFan
RevRabbiJCG 1 year ago
@RevRabbiJCG " Doth thou understandeth thee?"
Thee is interchangeable with thou. You may want to touch up on ye olde anglisk skills.
"Marx advocated the total abolition of property rights,"
Bullshit. In his 'utopia', he believed there would be no need for personal property, as everyone had everything abundantly. However, he also viewed it impractical in the current world to totally abolish all forms of private property (Including but not limited to toothbrushes, pictures, and mothers).
unifieddynasty 11 months ago
@RevRabbiJCG "he also didn't believe in any sort of religion hence no need for church or clergy"
Marx debated on "ORGANISED RELIGION". One of the most sensible things that humans can do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with humans claiming to be messengers of god, thereby given supreme authority over all other believers. I crack myself up sometimes. Oh, and let us not forget that conflicting religions have been the single most dividing force in the history of humankind.
unifieddynasty 11 months ago

Pomme843 1 year ago
I know how percentages can be a tricky thing to understand. Let's say everyone paid 10% in income tax.
Someone who makes $1,000,000 pays $100,000.
Someone who makes $1 pays $0.10.
Sure, the rich guy paid 99% of the income tax but he gets to take home $900,000 after taxes whereas the poor guy takes home $0.90.
It's hard to "Argue with idiots" when you yourself is a moron!
tophu1021 1 year ago
@tophu1021 When you yourself ARE a moron?
GFedFan 1 year ago
@tophu1021 At least the person who made $1 would actually have to pay something instead of not contributing at all, at least with income tax. You make it sound like the person who makes $1,000,000 is evil for being smart enough to make all that money. Why can't you just be happy for those who succeed, rather than demonizing them? Besides, its not like that $0.10 could do much. Why not pick a reasonable income like $20,000? Considering even beggars can make that much (though its not taxable).
Cosmo1093 10 months ago
@Cosmo1093
That's bullshit.
tophu1021 10 months ago
@tophu1021 I agree that everyone should pay their taxes, but that's not just limited to the rich, since they still pay a HUGE percentage of collected income taxes.. I just find it ironic that people want to raise the tax percentages on one group when a massive part of the population pays nothing still..chances are, those who want higher taxes pay very little to none themselves.
Cosmo1093 10 months ago
@Cosmo1093
There is a difference.
tophu1021 10 months ago
@tophu1021 So because they were successful, you expect them to be Atlas - bearing the vast majority of the burden of income taxes? They would still PAY more if it was just a flat tax. Just because they can pay more, does that mean they should?.. Reagan also raised taxes elsewhere and actually increased the tax revenue, despite there being a 70% income tax on the highest bracket under Johnson.
You can make $50,000 a year, and given the right circumstances, MAKE a few bucks from the IRS.
Cosmo1093 10 months ago
@tophu1021 (cont.) Sorry, bad wording on my part. But the reason "most" people want the tax cuts to be rolled back for the wealthy is because nearly half of Americans have no skin in the game - they don't have to even pay, so it doesn't even affect them. I think its just screwed up that people who pay nothing still demand that others to pay more. If you told those people that it'd mean they would have to actually pay income taxes too or that it'd increase theirs too, they'd suddenly shift sides.

whoo689 1 year ago
What does this prove?? OF COURSE the wealthiest people, who make way more money than the middle class, are going to pay the vast majority of income taxes. But their current federal income tax rate is only 35% at the moment. Now, I'm not the hugest fan of progressive taxation, but it's not like you couldn't raise it, say, 5-10%, without dire consequences. It's not like going from 35 to 75%. or 80%. Taxes are far lower, even in the clinton years, than they used to be.
