There is a Perfect Dark remake coming for Xbox Live Arcade.

And also there is a Goldeneye mod for Half-Life 2 called Goldeneye Source which I think you should check out, it's quite good. And also there is a Perfect Dark mod coming for HL2 aswell. Or it's already out (in beta form most likely)

It's bland because it's outdated. Games have evolved over the years. Halo, Gears of War, Call of Duty, etc. are all simply better games with more variety and replay value. The remake's main selling point would just be for "nostalgia value" since the game is only going to be bought by those who played it back when it was new, back when it was actually innovative. It was a great game and would still be fun to play, but it's not as if it's better than the more recent fps games. Btw I hate fanboys.
