The US, like most western countries, has outsourced production of food and manufacturing to countries like Brazil (food) and China (production), resulting in China building huge numbers of new coal-based power stations and Brazil cutting down huge sections of the rainforests there. The US is obligated to contribute financially to minimise the environmental impact, like Europe has done recently.
