  • i was at the dmv today and they had this video on the tv, on repeat, with no sound, close captioned. every time the screen said "holy guacamole" someone new would laugh out loud, it was funny.

  • I like it but Portland isnt doing it quite right. Making drivers give up the right turn on a red light is a bad idea. It slows traffic and creates animosity. Since the bike box gives cyclists an extra wide space behind the crosswalk cyclists should move to the left side of the bike box, allowing cars to merge into the bike lane/right turn lane when safe and turn right on the red.

  • i like that people are biking all i am saying is dont ride in the middle of the road if i wanted to go 15 mph in a 35 i would have walked. just move over and let cars pass you! and if i had a dollar for everytime some biker was in the driving lane going hella slow holding up traffic when there is a perfectly good bike lane right too the side i would never have to worry about my bills again. bike lanes fucking use it!

  • No, it's idiots like you who need to keep off the roads.

  • This video is cheesy but, it works. What does not work are the unfounded comments. Portland has never said it pioneered bike boxes. As for saying bicyclists do not watch out, I have been near missed often by drivers not paying attention to what they are doing. Hang up and drive I say

  • I have never heard Portland claim they were the pioneer of the bike box so I am not sure where you came up with your comment lajohns4. Others like to point fingers at us bicyclists but, I see stupid things everyday that motorists do that place my life and other bicyclists lives at risk.

  • Portland is the Greenest city in America also one of the most alternate trans. city's in America.. were not copying anyone were setting the standard.

  • Just because we ride bikes, doesn't automatically make us hippies.

  • The cheesiness helps deliver the message, so no worries if MacG01 finds it "dumb." I'm still not clear on what a car should do when it wants to turn right and there is bike and vehicle traffic. We need some non-dramatized footage of proper turns and improper turns. Thanks for posting and the general effort to reduce the cyclist fatality and injury rate.

p.s. professorbb's analysis doesn't demonstrate great scholarship on the issue.

  • And many other vehicles practically do the same.

  • You also should pay attention to your surroundings.
