  • does anyone know the name of the song he begins to play at the end?

  • Can you imagine meeting him?....

  • @Oaklandsucksballs i did.....4xs as a matter of fact.....a kind and loveing man...always positive ...always kind... and a great story teller...

  • what a genius!!

  • Not like he can stop playing...probably hasn't paid for a guitar in 50 years...

  • He wont be Forgotten... But you guys hsould say it like this AS LONG AS THERE ARE LES PAIL GUITARS,HE WILL NEVER DIE!

  • Do you hear that sound? Do you hear that notes? Well... this is magic.

  • Gibson should make a Les Paul signature guitar of Les Paul. Hey, wait a sec....

  • @ThePanteraTribute They should. The guitars he always used were so much different from the LPs sold by Gibson. If Gibson made a Les Paul Les Paul I would buy it.

  • @slpplexi1969 Yeah i know. I wasn't joking at all to begin with. I would really really REALLY like the guitar he's playing in the video.

  • the man invented the electric guitar, he will NEVER be forgotten and he was a VERY good guitarist himself, rest in peace mr paul, you have left a great legacy.

  • @amyleigh02 He didn't invent the electric guitar. He was the first to bring a solid body electric guitar to the forefront. The one he invented looked nothing like this, but the technology was basically the same. Gibson liked it and they made a deal. The rest, is guitar history.

  • @rockinredneck57 I know Les Paul worked with Petula Clark in the 60's. I though he also invented the 'overlaying" of two or more tracks(Guitar with other instruments). The "electric guitar' makes sense because he didn't want the guitar to be overshadowed by all the other instruments. Sorry, I'm no historian nor music expert nor electrionics guy either! I must google him up!

  • @watchful38 Yes he was the first to overlay multiple tracks. There is a video of him playing "How High the Moon" with Mary Ford singing and they have between the two of them over 20 vocal and guitar tracks. This is from the 50's I believe. Just incredible. He is as well known for his inventing and tinkering as his guitar playing. Very talented man. You don't even have to read the name on the guitar, you know it's a Les Paul.

  • Was there that night! I'm not a guitarist, but the single set I heard had me rethinking some of my ideas anyway. Great Show, Great Player, Great Dude!

  • A great guitar indead. He will be a great legend forever; GREAT sounds here in Romania

  • happy birthday

  • This man will be an eternal legend. He's birthday woul be today...

  • happy b-day les paul

  • as long as music is there you will be always inside our hearts :)

  • his guitars are badass

  • And then he died...

  • Did you know that he gave out 40 records!?!?

  • We share the same birthday. June 9th. R.I.P.

  • The greatest genius in music history. If not for him, there would be nothing today. There would be no multitrack recording, nor the most famous guitar solid body.

  • I wanted a les paul when I was a teen but I could only afford a copy. I finally got a real les paul at age 51. Oh well, I can play it better now than I could have then.

  • RIP Les Paul:)

  • R.I.P. Les Paul you are an inspiration to me and you are one of the greatest musicans and inventors of all time God Bless you

none the less, les paul is the man!!!!! Thank GOD for les paul! R.I.P MR. LES PAUL

    THANK YOU!!!!

  • He won't be forgotten for as long as people keep playing his guitars

  • I don't think he realizes that he is genesis for pretty much all modern music, just think how many of your favorite songs are played on his amazing instrument.

  • Les paul.....rest in peace

  • i want the les paul.

  • Genius

  • i met him and he signed my les paul il never forget that day and i was only 11

  • what a great man! RIP les paul , you will never be forgotten

  • he was 91 when this video was made

  • @xcaper66 OMG!!!!

  • dexo saudades esse velinho gente fina q invento a coisa q eu + adoro

  • Notice that those pickups are the Gibson LOW IMPEDANCE pickups...and the guitar is the "LP Recording Model"...

  • Les Paul is an inspiration for all of us, and testament to the fact that age is just a number - you can be forever young as Mr Paul was.

  • It's sad to see him go away, but we all should be glad for the legacy he left to us. Thanks for everything Mr. Les, RIP. You will never be forgotten!

  • Rest In Peace....Mr. Les Paul....I would have gone to NY to see him play....

  • i don't know much about guitars...but he can play anything....and built the best

  • i know i´m a bit late, but i just got the message that mr polfus has died.

the world has lost one of, no, the BIGGEST star in history of modern music.

god wanted to hear him live, just as jimi hendrix.

    Rest In Peace Mr Polfus!

  • RIP

  • i wish i ha a Les Paul model that looked like thaat RIP Les Paul

  • que dencanse en paz

  • RIP, Mr. Paul

  • RIP Les Paul

  • Les Paul is probably one of the greatest men that ever lived, and i just started listening to him today. Of course i know the Les paul, as i hve it myself, but i never really thought about him as a great guitarist, and ive relly been missing out on something i can see now. R I RnR

  • RIP one of the most guitar Gods in this planet

  • This dude was 91 in the video above. Heck with all you whiners who probably never picked up a guitar before.

  • There would be no Yngwie without Les Paul to pave the way.

  • There's one fundamental difference between Les Paul and Yngwie Malmsteen. Yngwie didn't invent the solidbody electric guitar, multi-track recording, or pioneer the guitar as a lead instrument. And you certainly don't see guitars with Yngwie's name on them everywhere you go.

  • watch?v=7iGXP_UBog4

Solo starts at about 1:05. No speed riffs? I'm pretty sure that you can find old videos of him tapping too, as it was a normal at that time, but then the whole idea of tapping dissappeared before Van Halen reinvented it.

  • This Les at 90+ freakin' years old you damned numbskull!!!!!!! Yngwie won't even be a mouse-fart in the halls of guitar history!!

  • He just passed away...

  • do you honestly think tappin and speed riffs makes a good guitarist? My man, you ar a complete idiot, and i hope youll realize this one day, and start banging your head agains your wall.

  • your retarded.

  • Rest in peace Les, Music owes you.

  • RIP

  • Покойся с миром...

  • RIP

  • a lucky man that lived a long life & did what he loved to do. R.I.P

  • RIP sir :-(

  • Hope he met Grant Greene

  • (-^(00)^-) the father of electric guitars !! RIP mr,Les Paul Paul, who died in White Plains, N.Y., of complications from pneumonia, was a tireless tinkerer, whose quest for a particular sound led him to create the first solid-body electric guitar, a departure from the hollow-body guitars of the time. His invention paved the way for modern rock 'n' roll and became the standard instrument for legends like Pete Townshend and Jimmy Page. respect to the great inventor mr,Les Paul

  • R.I.P., Mr. Les Paul

  • RIP. He and Leo Fender changed the sound!

  • Awesome!

  • RIP

  • R.I.P Lester William Polfus

  • RIP

  • Reposez en paix Mr Les Paul. Merci pour tout ce que vous avez fait

  • hE died at august 13 2009, wierd date...RiP guitar legend les paul.thnx for the great guitar you left and made for us..

  • he was thousands of years ahead of his time and to lose him was to lose ROCK'N'ROLL.

  • R.I.P

  • There are not good enough words to describe my immense appreciation, respect, and love for this man. God, what an influence he was and is to me and to so many. I play on a Les Paul guitar and have recorded on mutlitrack recorder - none of which would be possible without this man. God Bless you Les! And to quote one of his great tunes, 'Vaya Con Dios'.

  • Here's to the biggest innovator of 20th century music and the tools of the trade. Your great mind will be dearly missed. I will be playing all three of my Les Pauls in your honor today! Resr in peace!

  • 91 years here!

  • LEGEND!

  • It is like he is silently whispering to his guitar I wish I had that sort of passion

And btw who cares what guitar you have be happy with what you have

  • Honestly, I can say my hopes and dreams would lead me to owning the guitar he's holding, but I know it would be through theft. Because it is one for the Gods.

  • you guys realize that he was born in 1915 wich makes him 91 years old at this time!

  • actually hes 94

  • But I think456stix means back in 2006 by "at this time", and then he was 91...

  • lol not shit, les paul IS THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER! not one of them, but the best

  • very very true

  • he's the most influential indeed

  • best jimmy hendrix but les pault is AWSUM!!! he kind of invented electric guitars.. hes da boss

  • No offense but this is the stupidest comment I have ever seen on youtube. Jimi Hendrix isn't fucking fit to change Les Paul's guitar strings. And if Jimi was alive today, he'd tell you that.

  • That's just foolishness. Les Paul was an excellent guitarist, but he was no Jimi Hendrix.

He's far more significant as an inventor than as an artist.

  • Dude.....he was THE artist of his time...just as much as Hendrix was. Hendrix was just the next innovator..... You're selling Les short. Do some research.

  • No he wasn't. He was an excellent guitarist, but he was a genius inventor.

  • He was considered the greatest guitarist of his time. If he wasn't, who was???

  • You don't know what your talking about, look for Les Paul Mary Ford "world is waiting for the sunrise" listen to the solo in that and remember it's the '50s. he uses sweep picking and no effects. Hendrix was a great guitar player but Paul's technique was impeccable. Hendrixs legend comes from great playing and also from a lot of distortion.

  • He didn't "kind of" invent electric guitars. He did invent the solid-body electric guitar. Before that there were jazz boxes with pick-ups slap on them.

But that isn't his greatest invention. He invented multi-track recording. That is used by far more people than the electric guitar. Had he gotten a patent on that, he would have been a trillionaire.

  • Les Paul is the best guitarist ever!

If it weren't for him, we would still play by the old teory (only on the first 3 frets).

Noone comes even close as a guitarist!

  • gibson needs to put a out a les paul signature les paul

  • They'd probably want $6000 for it

  • uh... if guitar center wanted to sell some of the last jimmy page signature les paul customs in stock for 25 grand, then les paul's signature model would be worth a million bucks!

  • It's not so much what GC wants for them, it's what Gibson thinks they should be getting for them. Way too much in my opinion

  • well he plays a modified Les Paul Recording model that they used to make in the 70s.

  • In a way, they all are. But I would love to see them bring back the Recording with a Bigsby like he plays, except knowing Gibson it would cost more than the GDP of your average third-world country.

  • but really, they should....

  • les paul is the first real shredder and only shredder. even though im a metal fan what metal shredders play gets really old but les paul's stuff never gets old. he is by far one of the best guitarists ever.

  • it's amazing he's still playing and playing so well.

  • Aw, why'd Brazil get cut off?

  • damn hes 93 years old right now

  • 90 years old in the video. Wtf does rock and blues make you older? :S

  • If I was trashed, and from a distance, I would think Les was Larry FLint

  • Blues isn't shit. Blues started metal and rock. Most guitar solos in the 70's and 80's were made with the BLUES SCALE.

  • most music in general...heavy metal in there uses many blues scales. project u fail, im ur average head banger but i also love this, he has more technique and skill then any heavy metal guitarist ive ever seen so get your head out of your ass

  • jesus if it was not for him therewould be no metal or hard rock so you should be praying such a enius

  • Wow project, have you even heard good blues? It's probably one of my favorite genres of music. Plus You had better be damn greatfull for this guy, he basicalty made the electric guitar. So without him, there would be no metel, hard-rock, nu-metal, or any of that stuff.

  • Les Paul, believe it or not, actually made the Les Paul.

  • shows the real spectrum of music a les paul sounds amazing for. its truely one of the greatest designed guitars. les pauls and strats i feel are great for so many different things

  • w00t he did that on my birthday

  • maybe for you :P

  • omg i took one look at that guitar adn fell in love.... ima spend my life savings to buy it wehn im old

  • He still performs two shows on Monday nights in New York City... Google him!

  • one word guitar hero

  • thats 2 words =]

  • No, those are 2 words! lol :)

  • lmfao xD, im common leave me alone :P

  • of coruse he is,hes immortal isnt he (:

  • heck yea he is!!

  • HE'S STILL ALIVE???!!!!

  • yes

  • 93 years old

  • is it just me of is the vidio faster than the sound.

  • It looks like you´re right. Especially at 0:55

  • Les has outlived many other guitar legends that carried the Les Paul name into orbit. He's the electric guitar saint.

  • legend of music. too bad kids these days dont appriciate his work cus it's either too crappy or sumthin. i freakin love megadeth and metallica yet i respect guys like him.

and yea dat is da real les paul version

  • what model is the one les is playing
