  • I realllyyyy like this singer. :D She's wonderful.

  • ...world soup....

  • Who sleeps to this? Is it for inducing nightmares?

  • @kovona Good point. People of intellect would well know that lullabies are not what should be just sung like this, to please the gallery, with ostentatious, theatrical interpretation.

We have a simple, popular and refined version of this song, which when sung with sincerity would touch your emotions for sure.

  • @kovona

This is not a song mother soothe her baby. A girl from a poor family is put a rich family out to service and take care their baby. She really want to get back her home as soon as possible, and if the baby cries she would be scolded by the mistress or elder employee. This is a song of sorrowful situation of a nursemaid.

  • @yoimati Then it shouldn't be called a lullaby....unless there are Japanese parents who purposely want their babies to grow up depressed and suicidal?

  • @kovona

As the explanatory note says this song is Japanese old traditional folk song of Itsuki village, Kumamoto prefecture. Its name in Japanese is ''Itsuki no Komori-uta''.

''Komori-uta'' is automatically translated into ''lullaby''.It actually is A Song of Nursemaid.

Usually parents don't sing this song their babies because all the Japanes people know what the song is about.

  • @yoimati lol

  • this is beautiful

  • So beautiful, can someone send me the english lyrics, or at least the japanese, this would help my little sister sleep

  • @Cuezu Odoma iya iya, Naku ko no mori nya. Naku to iwarete uramareru, Naku to iwarete uramareru. The sleeping child's Cuteness and Innocent look! The crying child's ugly look The crying child's ugly look
  • you should sing tarirang! I think it would be beatiful

  • Both beautiful....are her hand motions for breathe control? If so, that's pretty cool!

  • @jboy212 It’s just a designed motion for performance’s sake. How nice her singing could have been if she had avoided applying those motions, which, being no better than flat repetitions of a simple pattern from the beginning to the end, are unlikely to be effusion of a fine sensibility. On the contrary, her monotonous motions and even her look have started to look to me to be a demonstration of her dull sense though I don’t dislike her voice.

  • you're voice is wonderful. i love how deep it is

  • basically it's about a poor person waiting for Bon, the festival where dead ancestors come back. they are sad because they work for a rich family, who have their entire family with them. since most poor people of this era were nannies of a sort, they cry because if the baby cries, they are blamed for it. and they miss their family terribly, but when they die, no one will be left to mourn them.

  • i agree with you, and yet i don't. i agree that it doesn't capture the soft, almost inaudible sadness of the lulluby, but at the same time, it carries its own brand of sadness. it reminds me of a woman weeping.

  • Very sad but beautifully sung by Ayumi Ueda san. She so successfully brings the song to life, with all the heartaches and sorrows of the poor class. In many parts of the world, not much has changed. Poor are still poor and face sorrows everyday. This song has a universal appeal.

Domo Arigatoo Guzaimasu Suniausa san for sharing.

  • te parto al medio

  • It''s a Japanese traditional song, It''s of poor girls who had to do baby sitter for other rich families. it says, 'I don't like a baby crying bcz I am scolded with it" 'I am in a lowere class, and they are in a high class,so they wear good belts and good clothes" 'My work will end on the Bon day,if Bon comes earlier,I would go home earlier" "If I died, who would cry for me? In tne monuntains, cicadas would cry" "Not only cicadas but also my sisters, but I care about my sisteres"
  • this is a lullaby, and yet she is singing it as if it is a ballad or something...

and i'm not sure the piano is the best instrument to transpose the lullaby to.

    little toooo theatrical

  • I don't think it's a lullaby as much as it is a blues song about a caretaker's sorrows.

  • @Hikikomori013 But old japanese lullaby were sung by caretakers and the words were often about what that caretaker was feeling. usualy sad because she is forced to work as a caretaker, or as we call the, babysitter.

  • Beautiful...Excellent.

  • So beautiful! Kawaiidesune.^^
