  • I love Jerrys "Yeah" @ 8:25 in

  • Brent took this band to the next level IMO

  • By far my favorite GD tune. The truth cannot be nailed any harder than this. But note, the politicians are not in control of any country...money is. The few who make the profits at the expense of the many, call the shots. Our freedoms are dictated by it. Capitalism, not democracy, rules. While capitalism may rule the day, it won't always, as history has shown. People will continue to struggle with people at all social levels, and that will usher in new era's, as it has always been.

  • Phil lettin' it rip at 48 sec.. ! If anyone asks me what the grateful dead experience was like I just let them watch So Far

  • Haha, Jerry was having a blast. Great version.

  • Song is NAAASSSTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • THIS SHOULD BE THE OWS THEME SONG

Singing just leave well enough alone

But his pants are down, his cover's blown.

  • Heartless powers try to tell us what to think.

The future is here we are it we are on our own.

More profound then the music Disney pumps out to our children today.

  • I'll send you a link to download The Grateful Dead movie if you want, @TalkingHeadsRock

  • Naw, as a collector of bootlegs, and a fan of Grateful Dead, and Jerry, and Kreutzemann, YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING that that video cuts s off right there, k.

  • This is one of the best videos I have seen on you tube

  • Bobby killed this version wow absolutely amazing. To hell with they all put 150% into this one like always:)

  • Brent looks like he is playing Schroeder's piano. Awesome!

  • This is sweet like honey rolling off of morning dew...

  • correction: phil has never been underrated by real musicians

he is the 2nd lead player in the band

guitar magazines consistently had him rated in the top 5 of bass players throughout the 80's

  • Theses graphics were so incredible on this tour...So glad for you tube !! Thanks ! Yea, The Phil Zone ! All around tight ! Miss em so much ~

  • great fitting for all that's going on right now1

  • straight americans, boring music and nervous artwork

  • @Myrna4Loy what does this mean?

  • @tikemarnofsky

don´t ask me what it means. i didn´t made it, but it is somewhat silly

  • garcia's little 'yeah!' makes this god damn video, so fucking beautiful

  • tight

  • I cried hearing this on the radio this morning. Power of the lyrics while getting my son ready for school combined with my concert memories, (still Making them) and my boys future it was too much for me. I tried to explain but it wasn't conveying. He is playing hooky today and getting a GD lesson. Also he will see his first Furthur Show Spring East Coast. We all have to try harder if we are gonna fix this place.

  • @RatDog67 what a cool dad

  • 8:26

  • ((((Phil)))) Still droppin' bombs at 70. I like how Phil seems to play more notes in Furthur and really drives the music in that band . To me, it's like his playing is a little "wordier"...and i sure don't mind :)

  • what we all need is some kindness

  • This song makes me weep - "for it's all too clear we're on our own" - so the choice is ours: to be nice to one another, work toward mutual understanding, common decency, human rights, and a civil world, or scramble for gratification and security until we're trampled under or die anyway - and what do people do?

  • @SupernalOne if nothing else we can just listen to the song, enjoy it and take meaning from it.

  • @toddspin

right, good point - I'll stop talking now & listen :)

  • holy crap I love the dead more than any other band but really? Nazi images? C'mon we are all better than that.

  • Look, there is one dislike. Must be a Nazi: "Zis isch reverse discrimination! Nien!Nien!" Long live the Dead.

  • Shooting powders back and forth, black goes south and white goes north, and this WHOLE world with its petty wars, Ive got mine and you got yours........Singing someones got to TURN THE PAGE. And that rich man in his summer home...

  • great version. love jerry's haircut!

  • GET STONED, AND LISTEN TO GOOD MUSIC...THAT'S ALL! THEY DID, WHY DO YOU THINK IT WAS SO GOOD.

  • Sweet thunder bombs!

  • long live the dead!

  • Corporate Greed Government Coruption raping Mother Earth!

She will get even one day!

  • Good ol' Grateful Dead. There was no one else like them.

  • at like 8:20 jerry just looks on with an impressed look on his face thinking something like either damn im fucked up or damn bobbys really ripping this shit up

  • @leroimoore41 I'm a bass player. That look is one I'm familiar with- it's the "we are feelin it" and when you get into that mindset, even if you play garbage, it STILL feels good. It's like a natural high I guess

  • What a fine take on this very heavy and telling song, thanks for posting it! Seems to describe our politically run world today so well...unfortunately. Fight organized crime...Re elect NO ONE!!!

  • 0:49-1:10 phil looks like hes havin fun

  • Awesome post Kuma,...seriously. I've been watchin this vid over and over since I was in diapers. To me, this is the definition of music. :)

  • when jerry kicks off that solo at about 7:15 it just gives the biggest chill down my spine every time nothing like the dead they just kill it

  • Katherine Anderson, it's almost time to gather. PBS Realms soon Child of...

  • This song is more relevant today than its ever been. War, nuclear annihilation...all those things are still scary and timely, but when I think what we're doing to the environment, this song takes on a whole new meaning. The Grateful Dead - still cutting edge in 2010.

  • When my duo plays live we always end the show with this song into Not Fade Away.

    I love this song!

  • I would die happy having seen this song live, but that'll never happen. Jerry died a couple of weeks after I was conceived, ironically, so my mom didn't have to worry about taking me on the spring tour. I sure do wish Furthur would play this.

  • Bob Quotes Rudy looking for a Fight. The Dream center Rudy did just that 6-27-09.

Friend of the Devil that he is. Thank You Bob. Furthur... Rock on.

  • Classic one!

  • They seem so organised and planned here. Kinda takes the magic away.

  • nuf said there kids..... Its all good in my book..from Truckin to brokedown palace...peace!!!

  • This makes me wonder why music isnt like this anymore. This is real music. I could listen to this all day. Thank you for the post man.

  • @Redskinsmcnabb5 ,what does the post man have to do with it?............(kidding)

  • YEAH BOBBY ,.. SING IT !!

  • you nab, burn on the cutoff.

  • one of my favorite youtube videos of this classic tune

  • The Phil Zone FTW!

  • I love Phil's bass chord playing, so much fuller than just playin single notes, or even a power chord, lol...^5 Phil Lesh

  • I like to call this "Throwing Bones"-LOL!

  • Gosh... used to have that on VHS.... now im in Europe n far as I can tell So Far is outta print... Help!

  • Just AWSOME!!!!! Simply Stated!!! FUCK THE SYSTEM!!!! THEY ARE ALL CORUPT!!!!!!

  • Phil Lesh is my vote for the undisputed best workingman bass guitar player of ALL TIME! Sometimes, I think it's jerry playing the bass notes, but, it's Phil, he's such a tight player, and he's so funky, and I so love it when he gets his Phil on like Bobby does sometimes, lmao ^5

  • yes, this was taped in 85 and it wuz released in 87

  • was this 87 or 85? I think this was taped in 85.

  • Jerry at 8:27----"YEAH!"

  • WoW! Their playing seems much tighter than normal doesn't it...

I'm not a huge fan of theirs. I do love about 12 of their "hits" though. It seems to me that Phil Lesh is under rated as a bass player or is that just me?

  • @TalkingHeadsRock oh you're one of THOSE! Yeah all musicians have good days, but when the boys had to play stuff like"truckin'" for folks like you it wasn't a great day for us heads.

  • @alligayda One of "THOSE" haha, your so funny. I don't care what you say. You think just because you are a poser that claims EVERY song of theirs is good you are a better person?

Lets face it, they have 12 to 15 GREAT songs that deadheads and "THOSE" other people like. That is more than most groups.

There is nothing wrong with playing "Truckin". I am sure they were proud of playing that song jackass.

You are just the type of obsessive fan that scared them just like Vince Welnick did.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock name calling really isn't neccessary. For recording puposes we just liked to get more rare music, anyone can get a thousand copies of truckin', dig? And just so's you know I'm a peice of sh*t just like you, never said I was better just obviously very, very diferent. "Free your mind and your as* will follow". "poser", if you knew me, is a most ludrious acusation and I find that rather funny. WE LOVE YOU and that thing you seem to have stuck up your well. . .we love you!

  • @alligayda Everything I said about them was positive. You come on here with negative vibes looking down on me calling me one of "THOSE" people like there is something wrong with loving like a dozen songs of theirs and not loving all their work. You are the type of person that turned the grateful dead in to a thing for rich people and presidents. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It is cool that Bill Clinton has something to say when Jerry died. Music is for everyone not just you.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock I apologize, you don't know me, and you didn't know that I don't believe in stereotypes which makes what I said a joke. No negative vibes from my side of the fence, there's nothin' wrong with you that a little more bran and a lot more jerry won't cure, might I suggest a long session with the pizza tapes? You seem to have enough time on your hands. I'm well aware of my insignificance in the universe. Are you aware of yours?

  • @alligayda The music is for everyone. You can't expect everyone to "get" all of their work. As long as people know the hits the hardcore fans can search out the rest. All I can say is do NOT discourage younger people from trying to experience SOME of the songs or their music will become forgotten over time. I happen to enjoy young people like carter3carter doing a Grateful Dead video but I'm sure it makes you sick? Some people say how can a young person like GD. Music has no age limit.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock nah, we know how good Phil is ;)

  • @TalkingHeadsRock certainly Phil can never get enough credit for the role he played and continues to play in the Grateful Dead Saga (if you will). That said, I wouldn't say he's underrated; I'm pretty sure he gets his dues as one of the greatest bassists ever. It's just that the GD always existed on the "fringes of society", and so maybe not always mentioned in the same breath as other classic acts of the last 35 years.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock It must just be you, ha ha... no Phil does not get enough praise far as I'm concerned. But us Dead fans just know he rules our world.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock no right. Phil is an amazing bassist.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock Phil is WAY underrated and I agree

  • @TalkingHeadsRock Just go to a show dude. Just go.....

  • @TalkingHeadsRock phil is the man

  • @TalkingHeadsRock

I have always considered Phil to be as much a lead musician as Jerry and Bob. I mean, even when he's just playing bass in the verses it's like he's soloing out anyway. I've always thought of him as being Jerry's bass equivalent. I don't think people realize how truly complex his bass lines are.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock Yea phil is way underrated and trained as a classical musician. I think he is AWESOME but he is not that charismatic and I hear he can be a dick to fans sometimes.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock - I am glad to see someone acknowledge Phil - his is most under rated :)

  • @TalkingHeadsRock -Phil= very underrated among those not in 'the know' I guess. IMO among the greatest, if not the greatest Rock n Roll bassist of all time. He doesn't just 'lay down bass lines' to 'keep the beat', he takes it to a whole other level of playing...almost as if it were "lead Bass". Also, to me, they were always playing 'tight'....just in their own way.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock how could u listen to even 1 of there songs and not be a huge fan? There music is addicting. Im only 14, and i feel so connected to the band, not even being alive for Jerry.

  • @TNAisWWEv2 When I say I am a huge fan of someone I like 99% of their work. Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Led Zeppelin I like all their work. Read other replies below, I know more about the inner workings of GD than many "big fans".

When I was your age in the 80's there were so many kids that were "fans" of them overnight that did not even know a single song I didn't want to be a part of that. I didn't want to put in a GD shirt loving only 12 songs or so. I'm a fan though.

  • @TalkingHeadsRock ye well ive been a fan of them my whole life. i grew up with them being played in my house, and ive listened to every album, and have watched all the tapes.

  • @TNAisWWEv2 That is cool. They are a great band for sure. In the 80's there were so many GD posers though it was insane. At that time I think they became over commercialized....especially as far as merchandise goes.

I saw that concert movie they made in the 70's a few weeks ago. Did you see that? I heard it was only release in the 70's and then in theaters one time a few weeks ago. If you missed it you can't see it again I was told. Do you know if that is true or not?

  • @TalkingHeadsRock ive seen it, and u can buy it on amazon for like 35 bucks on VHS. i dont know if it is worth it though. i personally like there 80's concerts better then anything else, manly because of brent. he was the man. but lots of these tapes r expencive
