I do not think that Pip was the Devil. Earlier in the episode Pip offered Valentine food. Valentine was suspicous and told Pip to eat it. Pip said that he didn't eat and that it must have been 2 or 3 centuries since he last ate. Valentine then asked if there was anything wrong with it and Pip said no. Then Valentine again told Pip to eat it. Pip said that he couldn't because he had forgotten how. This seems to imply that Pip was once human. He may have died and gone to Hell.
One of the all time best Twilight Zone episodes PERIOD. It's a great story and one that gets more and more relevant each and every day living in the consumer-oriented society that we live in. Capitalism caters to your wants and needs. Be careful if you become addicted to it.

the insanity Pip's really suppress'g reminds me of how i felt when i realized i'm stuck in here too.... in a hell.... of MY OWN making... 3d earth IS just like a twilight zone... we're asleep & powerless in OUR OWN 'dream' (3d-4d life). if anything, WE're the BEST at creating our own nightmares! i've been over it in my head; even if i blame those stupid, oversexed aliens of mislead'g our world, ultimately WE choose to follow the illusion.

The way Sebastian Cabot (Pip) tells Rocky that he is in fact in Hell,not in Heaven, sounded like he said:Oh I am sorry did I forget to tell you you are in Hell and that I am Devil himself?I guessed that thats how its gonna end since Pip kept telling him that he DID fit in when it was quite obvious he didn`t fit in at all.
