a question for you, do normal gas golf carts actually have a transmission or does the starter generator just start the engine in the opposite direction?
I did the same but i made a bracket were the batteries were and put the engine there. The chain dosnt pop off and you keep your suspension. Add a small sprocket to the back because the gearing from the axle is low. So to get speed you need smaller one. Ill post a video soon how to convert electric to gas. Nice job!!
@SmoothSailor15 not to be a douchebag or anything but... READ THE FUCKING COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the first set of comments on the top are posted from me, and you will find in the info "had you bother to read any of it" a full list of links to pics of the build along with the information your looking for.
how about doing your part and read the info section of the video or use google....
@foxxentertainmentvid err, i think I used a #40 chain "typical go cart chain" and i believe the driven gear was a 10 tooth? and im not too sure on the clutch...
@elricdean i welded a gear to the gearbox input shaft, then cut out some clearance in the top of the housing for the chain to shake around... ill put some links in the description
I have a 1981 Club Car electric I am converting to gas. I have a 440 Kawisaki motor for mine. There are some serious space issues though. I may go the Briggs route in the end. On mine I have to flip the axles and swap the brakes around to get the drive on the right side.
@mascobe jesus! waay too much work for me! I would have canned that engine and stuck with a 2 cycle, that way I could mount it upside down, diagonal, sideways 30* or a little to the left, plus it can run backwards or forwards =]
hooray for 2 cycle! ive actually got a 25hp boat motor ive been wanting to put on a gokart..... i found a frame for free the other day, now ive just gotta rig up a cooling system seperate from the exhaust, and mount the carbs vertical.
Oh SHIT! heavy duty clutch! hmm what happend the last time we used one of those? pretty sure it ended in the engine reving the chomp SNAP CLANK putt putt putt. "WTF happend" idk but is that our clutch in front of us?!?
hey dude i'm doing the same thing except with a 90cc dirtbike engine. how did you find a shaft or how did you put the sprocket on the axle??? this is set up just like my golf cart (well without the engine for now) reply asap
i have an ez-go and i got a 420 sprocket bored it to fit the shaft that welded a bolt with the head cut off to the shaft and use a lock nut with a large washer to keep the sprocket this allows u to change the gearing easily

@MrSk889 technically it doesnt need one unless I was running a torque converter setup..

@hvguy i did the same thing with a golfcart but with a 10.5 and a belt clutch going to a jackshaft u need that if u want to put shock on ur axle

lol< i remember that.
i was kinda surprised that the actual SHAFT broke off, and it was only 3.5hp.... it was a 5/8 shaft tho

i welded the sprocket to the shaft veryyyyy carefully
hvguy 2 years ago
see thats what i was going to do but the shaft i was going to use is in the big hunk of metal in the electric motor
creatureboards1 2 years ago
hmm, dont bother with the motor, I made mine chain drive.
hvguy 2 years ago
thats what i'm trying to do. i meant where did u get the shaft u put the sprocket on from
creatureboards1 2 years ago
the shaft was sticking out of the transaxle... I didnt have to do anything except weld a sprocket to it
hvguy 2 years ago
oh well damn.i've got to find a shaft for mine
creatureboards1 2 years ago
There is an MIT video showing how to fabricate a stub shaft to put in an early electric transaxle.
