Over here we have Silurus glanis (european catfish) and we sometimes hook up with fishes over 8 foot in length!

Awesome!! I love catfishing. Good video. Gotta love those Ugly Sticks :) I just bought another one...8' med/heavy action. Hopefully I can hook a big cat soon. I had to switch my line and I put 30lb Spider Wire on. It is as thin as dental floss and it casts and retrieves smoother than 10lb. I love it. Nice reel, too, that mike was using. Why was that one channel catfish black? Did it have a parasite or was it diseased? I caught a channel catfish that had black spots all over its body once. The whole tail was covered with the black stuff. I could scrape it off.

you should try fishing off the bottom at night. especially in a hotspot like that. we go in a lake near where we live and catch some huge ones. biggest was i think 30" 17 lbs. also spider line 50 lb test. never breaks lol

@AmericanRifleMan1997 They're probably just store bought, but the main thing that brings the channels in is the scent of blood - Channel also like to feed on dead fish, and whatever bits they get, so they don't have to stink.

Eh i think the 1st fish snapped his line and didnt spit the hook,you can hear the crack and fish usually only spit the hook when the line is slack which it wasnt...dont rate these guys much.....

@777seanwater You also can't control if it stops fighting on a reel back, or if it flies to the top for a reel hook. Catfish also like to spin which can break the hook out. So you can't really say they did good or bad, never know what happened... Could have also been too small of a hook, and it just ripped out of a small piece skin in the mouth, you weren't in the fish watching you don't know.

I hate that damn cottonwood seed. You should consider using braided line, you would eliminate a lot of break offs and catfish really don't care about the line size, especially in water like you are fishing.

@Jayballa1183 we tie them in atlas spawn net - a soft nylon bait mesh used for tying salmon egg sacks.

4" wide sheets or rolls are best for tying good size liver sacks.

Nice fish. Largest channel iv ever caught was 32 lb , although that thing was large, it was terable to eat and a mistake to keep. Taught me to keep large cats, wich i dont keep anymore realy. I normaly use half a gold eye and a large hook, let it hang on the bottom of the river up in Drayton ND, in the red. Again nice cats and great video.
