  • Would normal grease work?

  • You rock lol

  • Ya, be careful taking these reels apart. Some parts are spring loaded and parts can go popping off and might be difficult to put back.

  • Great tutorial, keep it up.

  • GREAT INFO AND CAMERA WORK. THANKS

  • Good video. I know reels vary in the way they are built, but the general build of most spinning reels is the same. I think this will be a useful tool for people to be able to service their own reels. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the information; I had never done this before and your video was a big help!

  • `great video i did this with my reel and its so smooth

  • My reel is a bit older (if that has anything to do with it) and the drag is a knob on the back. Does that just unscrew too? Don't want to dive right into it without being sure.

  • I take apart my reels and wash every single piece with hot water & soap, dry the pieces with a towel first, then dry them with a blow dryer, then reassemble it, greasing it and oiling it as I put it back together. The water cannot hurt the reel as long as I know it is dry correct? Am I over cleaning the reel or is what I am doing good for the reel?

  • ya like skateboard wheel bearing oil is what i use for my bearings. i think the stuff i use is called speed x very good stuff but only use it on your bearings. for your gear grease i reccomend penn reel grease or abu garcia reel grease

  • Thank You.. This helped!

  • that vid was awsome now my penn rod reels soooooo smooth!!!!!

  • thanks dude you are awsome my reel is smooth thanks!!!!!!!!

  • hey dude, nice vid!!

  • @clayking1 good info i forgot to include that that also goes for baitcasters like my penn 309 is completely different gearing than my abu 10,000

  • @clayking1 good info i forgot to include that that also goes for baitcasters like my penn 309 is completely different gearing than my abu 10,000

  • @Eric2827 im sorry u feel that way im just tryin to help peoploe out with keeping there gear in good working condition

  • @Eric2827 Not a very constructive comment is it, Dick

Also its worth a mention that if you open up your reel and your grease that is already on your cogs/oil on bearings is black, use dry cotton buds to remove the excess and then de-grease them with a de-greasing solution (lighter fluid also works), then follow this guys instructions.:D

  • @Eric2827 Your a putz and a moron to criticize a kid that is trying to be helpful! You helped me and

I am 40 years old. Thanks alot!!

  • @Eric2827 Your a putz and a moron criticizing a kid that apparently has more intelligence than you

will ever have!! Thanks Scott it helped me greatly and I am a 40 year old fisherman!

  • @Eric2827 What a stupid comment....

  • @Eric2827 you are stupid, i think he did a great job!!

  • I had my whole reel dipped into the sea while fishing a big one .. after a week or so, i feel some roughness, and so i found your vid ..

while stripping my reel i felt salt particles on the gears ... how do i get rid of it as the gears are still oily/greasy?

  • @fishingadventures the best way to do that is very carefully get a clean brush with no oil or grease on it and wipe off the gears...

  • @coscott228 Always remember you grease gears after clenaed and oil bearing, you can clean bearings also but near as critical as the gears.

  • ...

Great video. Camera girl did fantastic. In fact you should make lots of videos if Camera Girl can help. Good job.

  • JESUS. ID RATHER WAIT TILL IT FEELS SHITTY AND BUY ANOTHER.

  • I appreciate the vid. I never bothered in the past to maintain my reels and just recently it got really nasty and noisy. When i got into the housing my gear wouldn't come out. it would move around and it was loose but wasnt possible to take out. I manage to grease it anyway. Have you ever seen that before?

  • good video! saved to favorites

  • OK well at the end there was a screw and a o ring or washer still on the table

    u forgot something lol

  • Very nice job on the video, I just started fishing again and was wondering how to maintain my reels, you covered all the bases. Thanks!

  • thank you!

  • i was wondering, what should I do with my spinning reel after fishing in salt water. please reply

  • um really u want to put your entire pole in the shower and rinse them down but just using a waterhose to spray them down is fine just make sure u get the eyes and handle and stuff bcuz saltwater will make a green limey substance build up on your pole

  • Thanks mate, helped a lot.
