  • Brilliant. Some memories x

  • I can remember playing this in my first car at full bore back in about 84. Great days!

  • Cheesy brass, love it

  • Absolutely amazing song.

  • Comment removed

  • Well? I'd like to enjoy it if wasn't so BLURRED!

  • I just bough this cd, my neighbors love waking up to it hahahaha

  • Half a second of Careless Whisper coming in at the end? I really need to get out more - to the rewind festival!

  • Jed is quite the actor in this video.

  • My favorite Howard Jones song, great beats, horns, synth, drums and a cool video that I hadn't seen before.

  • I love this track - I put this on as soon as I wake up - thanks for posting it - it makes my mornings really cheerful :)

  • The electro beats in this are awesome. If you listen to some of the music of today from artists like Example, Calvin Harris, Mark Ronson to name a few, they all take their influence from people like Howard Jones. Its testament to their great work in the 80s.

  • This is fabulous! Thanks for sharing this on YouTube ..... I think the story and the video is amazing, and what a piece of music behind it. Going to the "here and now" concert at the O2 01 July, Howard Jones will be there, but he won't sing this one unfortunately...

  • Liked all of Howard's singles, but this is my personal favourite :)

  • I'm happy in the knowledge that [we] got to grow up with this. No need to be bitter about the kids of today - our parents/grandparents said exactly the same thing about us! Be content in yourself and enjoy the feelings that artists and tracks like this instill...

  • @ericscollar71 Well said. My youth was ruined by nostalgic baby boomers saying how great the 60s were. Everybody's youth is special BUT the 80s had a great soundtrack!

  • @ericscollar71 here here, its not our fault we had the best era of music growing up EVER!

  • Jed was a great proto-Bez

  • Yeah i would'nt want to be 16 again though!!

  • I play this to death on my ipod and sony walkman pod, its on ministry of sound electronic 80s wicked tune x he writes all the sugar babes records, aoward jones is v talented x

  • What an amazing song - takes me right back to the early 80s! Thanks for posting!

By the way, macaighann is right.

  • 80s was my happy time. great music, great computer games, hopes n dreams. now im old life is way less cool...

  • I've always loved the sax solo in this song.

  • Shut up! The eighties were poo! Sorry loopylou but you just contradicted yourself there....none of the crap today would exist if it wasn`t for the eighties...nuff said!

  • Lmao, I thought hes gonna throw someone with the drumstick at the beginning

  • i have just seen howard jones in sheffield on the 80's rewind tour dec 6th 2010

STILL AS GOOD TODAY AS HE WAS THEN

i only waited 26 years to see him LMAO

as well as ABC & THE CHRISTIANS & GO WEST AMONG OTHERS

and the best bit ? it only cost me £25 for my travelling just imagine how much it would have cost me to see them all in the 80's

NOW WHERE DID I LEAVE MY TIME MACHINE -------> over there.....?

  • Human's Lib was a brilliant album and this was my favourite track!

  • god i miss the 80s.. just wish i could go back in time and stay there..

  • I hated the 80s, except for the music. There were some really fun and unique artists back then. Today's music is vile and soulless.

  • The real problem with the music they're CHURNING out today is laziness and lack of talent. They get people who can't carry a tune in a bucket to 'perform' and plasticize it with Autotune. It sounds like cheap plastic.

  • I heard the first drumbeat of "Careless Whisper" on the tail end of this vid!

  • @MyYTFaves yes maybe it was next in a mix and was clipped a second too late.i have the sax line in my head now .

  • howie was so great the songs have stood the test of time, not like the unoriginal crap they churn out these days

  • Synthesizers forever!!!!

  • This Song Iz Active!!

  • at the risk of sounding brash , i was banging betty's left & right to this song & many others like it in the wonderfull 80's !!!!!!!! thank you sincerly to all those loose women who made it all possible !!!!! it was my pleasure servicing you !!!!!!! respectfully erm "the flying italian "

  • @ermthewerm laff my fuckin ass off...ha ha!!!

  • Brilliant! Who is the cute bald guy in the video? Can anyone let me know.

  • @SylviesBoudoir

Can't remember his name but he toured with him, miming and dancing etc.

He was always on tv with him.

    Sorry that's all I remember...long time ago!

  • @SylviesBoudoir

Can't remember his name, he used to tour with him, miming and doing weird stuff in the background!

    Sorry, long time ago now!

  • @SylviesBoudoir

No idea who he was. But he's always appear in several Howard Jones' MTV. Check it out. In "New Song", he dressed like a clown.

  • @SylviesBoudoir His name is Jed (Jed Hoile)

  • love the sax in this, great!!

  • And the beat goes on... Great track! Infact the whole of Human's Lib is!

  • One of my greatest memories growing up in the 80s is Howard Jones lovely tunes !

Pity Howard could not make another album, the tunes he composed in the 80s are timeless and have not dated at all. This song is still lovely to listen to and give you a nice happy feeling when you hear it.

What Is Love, Like To Get To Know You Well, New Song, No One Is To Blame are all great tunes.

Im glad i was there to hear them......

  • @rabXS i have just seen howard jones The christians and ABC in sheffield dec 6th 2010 on a 80'rewind tour

AND HE STILL SOUNDS AS GOOD TODAY AS HE DID THEN !!

  • I want to buy this album now~this is the 5th song I listened on youtube and I started with What Is Love.

  • Omg listen to you oldies mope on like really old people. I'm 32 and I was about 7 when this came out and I loved it at that age, but I also remember my parents who were about 40 at that time saying 'what a load of crap...there's no lyrics, he's just signing random words it doesn't make sense at least in our day they could write proper songs' !!!!!!

You lot moan about baggy pants nowadays, but in the 80's my dad moaned about boy george wearing makeup.

  • @westbay1000 LOL..I have to had it to you, westbay, if we're all honest about it, you hit it on target. (Youch!) Part of the fun back then was hearing adults tell us we were tasteless and crazy, and even more, we reveled in it.

  • im 39 today..and i still think the 80's were the best years...yes people say the clothes were crap and the music was shite..but...everyone was happy and individual....bring those times back....

  • classic xxxxxxxxxx

  • i miss the early 80's

  • Wonderful tune! Howard Jones is massively under-rated. Great performer, singer, musician. Such happy tunes that put a spring in your step & carry a nice message too usually ;-)

  • remember this song well was a great one i was about 11 at the time

  • @MrMatbri luv 80, s

  • you´re really missed, 80´s........:)

  • all true! all true! wish i could go back to the 80s

  • GUY WAS COOL X

  • Top Tune From A Top Decade - We Love The 80's

  • Top Tune From A Top Decade - We Love The 80's

  • Listen to us 80s fans ranting about today's kids and their rap crap; have we turned into our parents? Yikes!

  • i remember at the time this was one of the worst videos ever.

  • And your reason being????

  • @saintlyjas It's shite,that's why.

  • it's 30 years old. Videos were new back then. Great tune!

  • im glad isaw all the 80s music best ever

  • Kids today don't know what real music is, they listen to crap not realising that if it wasn't for our 80's music none of their crap would exist. 80's music was unique.

    Fionalah right with you girl.

  • @loopylou4266

Well said, good for you :-) 5*****

  • So glad I was an 80's girl!

The kids listen to such rubbish today. Howard Jones had real soul.

  • @Fionalah

I'm a 90's kid, but you can't beat Howard Jones.

  • It really is a shame that I didn't realize how great the 80's were when I was there.

A young man in the world with my whole life ahead of me.

Now I'm old and can't figure out how kids can walk around with their underwear hanging out.

White kids acting like black kids acting like idiots.

Flapping their arms around yelling "YEE-EAH BOI"

What kind of stupid shit is that?

At least we could dress ourselves then.

I miss the clothes of the 90's also.

  • yeah thats true, weird tho that HJ looks like John Lydon in the first part of this video..... anyway, now kids don't know shit from clay musically cos they are fed the corporate bullcrap from the big music companies, we are all doomed to a slow death from manufactured bilge and jedward, just lucky we were around in the 80's to appreciate real music before it all got poisoned...

  • i know , the 80s were about having fun , night clubs and wine bars - there were one or two idiots around in the villages and towns back then , but not as many idiots as what there are now. i think we can blame the media and lack of imigration control for most of it - just have to remember the good times eh!

  • macaighann - you're spot on!

  • Mate! you are so right!! my son walks around just like that (less the chat) I wont have any of that type talk lol, but yes the 80's what a time!!

  • @macaighann Agree entirely with your comments re today's moronic youth, or 'yoof' culture-pathetic. The 80's was incredibly diverse in terms of musical styles, with a HUGE amount of talented people in the business. Now we have manufactured boy/girl bands, and excessive amount of R&B music, and that is about it. Glad I was around to enjoy the classic 80's music at the time! QUALITY! :)

  • @macaighann White kids have been copying black styles for decades, it's nothing new... why do people have a go at white kids that act black put they don't when black kids act white???

  • @macaighann

You are so damned right. I guess their are a lot of people on earth with this feelings and ...well . .. i cant find the right words.

Thanks for your comment, my friend!

  • @macaighann Im 17 and I'm totaly jealous of everyone who experienced the 80s, I love the music, the clothes, the culture.

I HATE THE ENTIRE RAP MOVEMENT! I absolutely hate it and the closest thing we have to music like this these days is apparently lady gaga, which is a load of shit anyways...

Do you like Dead Or Alive? They are one of my faves!

    Love Howard Jones <3

  • @macaighann Excellent, totally agree.......

  • Comment removed

  • @macaighann Top comment , good shout!!!

  • @macaighann have to agree with you on everything you said.i was a teenager in the early eighties and looking back it was a great time for music.i think we are getting old or even worse turning into our dads.noooooooooooooooooooooo

  • @macaighann im right with you on that point about todays kids

i even got into an argument about emenem writing the original "toy soldiers" which as you will know was a 1989 martika song/ballard with a 20 year old lol

and you know the worse bit ? i had to google it to prove my point because he didnt belive me !!

as for the songs of today ! with all this simon cowell crap it no wonder peoples heads are turned by this so called plastic pop

  • @MrBaggy69 Oh I know what you mean about having to convince them how old a song is. I get a kick out of comments like "2005 was SO long ago" or the disbelief that a song is a cover (I had the exact same experience with my niece, who was convinced that Selena Gomez was the first - and only - person to ever record "Magic".)

  • @MrBaggy69 Yep! I get a kick out of messages like "2005 was so long ago". I had the same experience as you, except with my niece - she believed that Selena Gomez was the first person to ever record "Magic". I had to show her my old record of Pilot doing it in 1975...

  • @macaighann

i could name you countless original song writers from the 80's

madness, japan, duran duran, tears for fears soft cell (though tainted love dont actually count as its a cover) spandau ballet, the christians ABC heaven 17 the human league not to mention the less known ones like souxie & the banshees even the buggles released some

you ask a teen these days to name you as many original writers from today

YOU'D BE HARD PRESSED TO GET THEM TO COUNT PAST 10 FINGERS

  • @MrBaggy69 Heh... sort of like board games ("where do you put the batteries?"), I'm sure kids nowadays come from "music machines"...

  • @shmuli9 music machines ? like how many of cowells mass produced 1 hit wonders have a original song they actually wrote ...? even stock aitkin & waterman produced their own songs (even if they used the same tunes over n over agan)

  • @shmuli9 Yeah. "Automatic music machine" was a theme brought up in both George Orwell's work "1984" (as the narrative put it, it made songs for the Proles to sing or hum along to) and another dystopian novel about a society where everyone lives alone (includig parents; they reporduce by taking eggs and sperm out of donors and then doing everything in the lab), in something like a very small studio.

  • @macaighann

    You're lovely.

  • @macaighann Damn right.

  • well said sir. and why do the young people of today have to say "innit" after every sentence?

  • @harrier21 Agreed. Too many lazy people out there. How hard is it to fully pronounce "isn't it"? lol

  • @macaighann this guys a poor mans duran duran. thats all. hide and side is awesome, but the rest is horrible.

  • @Chrisruleshughes

And Duran Duran were a complete and total absolute rip-off of Japan, listen to Japan's 1st album.

  • @wideernie "total absolute rip-off of Japan"...You obviously don´t know nothing about music. Japan STOLE from dd and other acts. And sorry to say: they were horrible :)

  • @SuperTP70

How could Japan rip off Duran Duran, they precede them by years!!! Listen to their first album, Duran Duran sounded exactly the same as them, years later! Don't get me wrong I like both bands but there's being influenced by somebody and blatant copying. Anyway, this Howard Jones song is bloody brilliant!

  • @wideernie I agree--this song is BRILLIANT!!

  • @SuperTP70 Troll

  • @FrankNFurter1000 You?? ME??

  • @macaighann You are so right, anyone who was lucky enough to grow up in the 80's didn't realise just how lucky they were at the time,i was 7 in 1980 and spent the best years of my life in the best years of all time.........

  • @macaighann

I LOVE your comment lol! x

  • @macaighann I wish we could thumbs up comments as many times as we want after I read comments like that... haha I like how its point form too

  • I was a 12 year old boy sooo in love with Howard!

  • Good old Jed- wonder what he's doing now?

  • 1:13 is that the slaphead from the New Song video?

  • Comment removed

  • He played at my college in 1983. What a great show. It was him and noone else. Truly great artist.

  • don't make music like this anymore, I miss the 80's sound!

  • tell me about it, this song screams summer days and nights...now i have to listen to some idiot rambling on about birthday sex?

  • What a musician, last of the absolute

    80's greats....Howard, you are ace!!

  • Saw Howard in Newastle Area last night...BRILLIANT GUY as he always was...pure genuis

  • Good for you! I can't believe this song is 25 yrs old!!!!!!! I was stationed in England 1993-95. I wished more of his songs were played, especially this one....but I live in Louisville, Kentucky, USA....they play 80's music here but songs heard ALL OF THE TIME! Let me DJ and I will change that!!!!

  • I can't believe how long it's been since I've heard this song. Had all this great 80's music on cassette tape. I think I'll have to dig that collection out because there seems to be a vacuum on the radio for the music of this time period.

  • Saw Howard Jones perform this song last night at the Here & Now reunion gig in Mancdhester...Love it all these years on..lol

  • Loved this album, "Dream Into Action". Howard is a legend.

  • Great song, but this track is on the "Human's Lib" LP, not "Dream Into Action".

  • You are quite correct. Getting confused in my old age. Both albums are wonderful...

  • At the very last second of this clip, you can here the intro to "Careless Whispers".

  • WONDERFUL.....Great memories of that era.....

  • Mullet-tastic! ☺

  • What a genius! Because of him started the musican inside of me!

  • Notice how back then music video was half-way intelligent: with plotting, structure and production values. These days it's a bunch of girls in bikinis dancing by the pool. Or a band onstage. Must be the only art form that has gone backwards.

  • bunniesonprozac you're so right! Music used to be much more emotive and better produced. Also, more artists used to write their own songs - like Howard Jones.

  • apparently u have never seen a zz top vid from eliminator ..generalize much?

  • One of my top 5 favorite artists of all time.

Love all his work, and love blasting the hits at full volume.

  • Howard Jones was great, loved his music back then.

  • HJ looks like Trent Reznor.

  • Totally agree, i'm almost 40 and feel like 21 with this tunes, man.

  • Great song and great Sax sound!

  • Old? No, never. Good music keeps young!

  • clothes sense bad.. music..Awesome.

reminds me of being young and very much in love!!

  • Sensitive, great song writer. His music identifies the 80's for me along with the other great bands from that era. Those were the final years of my youth. It sucks getting old but we can still be young at heart.

  • God, I haven't heard this song in...25 years? I'm not sure if that's good or bad, just an observation. Weird how songs can get engraved on your memory, isn't it.

  • I think it's definitely in the good category. Love the Human's Lib album.

  • I LOVE JED!!!

    SOOO MUCH!!

    lol

howard is amazingly talented and awesomely sexy aswell.

  • are we old? still love it

  • God! this brings back some great memories.

  • Such a supurb tune and simple, but really relevent lyrics.

    More pure class from Howard.

    Baz

  • when we lived for now thats what i call music albums

  • He looks like Trent Reznor at 0:32-39. He even sounds a little like him.

  • JED JED JED JED!!!

    he is so awesome!

  • My number 4 best song of all time. If I count the number of times I drove my crappy old Renault 5 at break neck speed with this blaring out of the stereo I would lose count, should have lost my license 50 times over, but that was the 80s and speed traps were rare thank goodness.

  • we have two of the same favorite songs. i must have listened to this hundreds of times and used to go to sleep to this album... i also love hey little girl so very much. it's a beautiful song!!

  • I really love his crazy hair and his outfit.

  • Wow!!!I didn't know that MTV used to show videos.I thought they only showed crap from california that no one cares about.

  • damn, i try to reproduce this song, but this has Soooooo much energy, :( I SUCK

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME WITH PUTTING LIFE INTO MY TUNES BEFORE I GIVE UP A 10 YEAR PASSION

  • Life in your tunes ! Its simple senojdrawohmirror. The life is all there in your tunes its just that you are your worst critic. Perfection is not what you are looking for, in fact I bet your not looking for anything!! Its all there at your finger tips its all staring you in the face just stare right back and you'll see it...

    Just play.....Just play....

  • You really think so! you mean i should perhaps listen to what howard is singing ?

Yes, your right, it was staring me in the face all the time, thank you mate for giving me the push i needed and thanks for taking the time to reply

  • You really think so! you mean i should perhaps listen to what howard is singing ?

Yes, your right, it was staring me in the face all the time, thank you mate for giving me the push i needed and thanks for taking the time to reply

  • WOW! Haven't seen this for a LONG time! Thanks for sharing!

Back when MTV played music videos!

  • Fantastic then and now

  • love this song used to play over and over ago from the album. Excellent 80s!!

  • I heart HoJo!

  • Beautiful positive bright fun funky and melodic. How could be any better!

  • Depešáci zasraní :-D

  • Just because this song was from the "80's" does not mean It's dated... Listen to to words.

  • Great tune and great times Sometimes nostalgia annoys me but i guess its like your home..thats where your heart is !

  • mint comments

  • this has got a good toe tapping beat. it would sound good down the discotheque.

  • HoJo is such an underated artist who deserved to be a gigger success than he was. This song went around ... and around ... and around... in my cassette player. My favorite song of his. Neat!

  • I have confused "Look Mama" and this song.

    Very similar melody.

  • I haven't heard this song in a long time.I'd almost forgot he done this. Its one of his best after hearing it again.Has anyone checked out his Hide and Seek performance at Live Aid? What a great pianist he is! I'm glad he's still touring,i hope to catch him if he ever comes to a place near me.

  • yes i did ,i was working on the isle of man 7 years ago on my own and i found an old cassette tape in my car and it had that track on it,absolutely brilliant,it saved me from going insane

  • I must say Howard you are the One pop of today isnt what it should be , come back howard give em a run for there money

  • Jed Hoile is my cousin and my brother is Howards son Jasper's best friend :P.x

  • Please pass it on to your brother that Jasper's dad was the best British songwriter and performer of his generation and never quite got the acclaim he deserved!

  • Saxaphone by no less than Davey Payne ( from Ian Dury and the Blockheads). Jones's Humans Lib is one of those albums we should all listen to before we die.

  • Now im REALLY in love with the bald dude... 'Jed'.. anyone know who he is/was... he still around?? *drools...

  • I think that is his friend and former partner from his street performing days. His name is Jed Hoile and he is a mime and used to perform in white paint as Howard played music to his improved choreography.
