The electro beats in this are awesome. If you listen to some of the music of today from artists like Example, Calvin Harris, Mark Ronson to name a few, they all take their influence from people like Howard Jones. Its testament to their great work in the 80s.
This is fabulous! Thanks for sharing this on YouTube ..... I think the story and the video is amazing, and what a piece of music behind it. Going to the "here and now" concert at the O2 01 July, Howard Jones will be there, but he won't sing this one unfortunately...

The real problem with the music they're CHURNING out today is laziness and lack of talent. They get people who can't carry a tune in a bucket to 'perform' and plasticize it with Autotune. It sounds like cheap plastic.

One of my greatest memories growing up in the 80s is Howard Jones lovely tunes !
Pity Howard could not make another album, the tunes he composed in the 80s are timeless and have not dated at all. This song is still lovely to listen to and give you a nice happy feeling when you hear it.
What Is Love, Like To Get To Know You Well, New Song, No One Is To Blame are all great tunes.
The music today has lost most of his creativity because there is nothing to be invented! The music of the 80 who understands only lived there during those years! All others are like mannequins in the clothing stores: physically present but empty head!
I still love listening to The Human League .... But Falco too was not bad!!
Omg listen to you oldies mope on like really old people. @macaighann Agree entirely with your comments re today's moronic youth, or 'yoof' culture-pathetic. The 80's was incredibly diverse in terms of musical styles, with a HUGE amount of talented people in the business. Now we have manufactured boy/girl bands, and excessive amount of R&B music, and that is about it. Glad I was around to enjoy the classic 80's music at the time! QUALITY! :)
@macaighann White kids have been copying black styles for decades, it's nothing new... why do people have a go at white kids that act black put they don't when black kids act white???
@macaighann Im 17 and I'm totaly jealous of everyone who experienced the 80s, I love the music, the clothes, the culture.

@MrBaggy69 Yep! I get a kick out of messages like "2005 was so long ago". I had the same experience as you, except with my niece - she believed that Selena Gomez was the first person to ever record "Magic". I had to show her my old record of Pilot doing it in 1975...
i could name you countless original song writers from the 80's

@shmuli9 music machines ? like how many of cowells mass produced 1 hit wonders have a original song they actually wrote ...? even stock aitkin & waterman produced their own songs (even if they used the same tunes over n over agan)
@shmuli9 Yeah. "Automatic music machine" was a theme brought up in both George Orwell's work "1984" (as the narrative put it, it made songs for the Proles to sing or hum along to) and another dystopian novel about a society where everyone lives alone (includig parents; they reporduce by taking eggs and sperm out of donors and then doing everything in the lab), in something like a very small studio.
@wideernie "total absolute rip-off of Japan"...You obviously don´t know nothing about music. Japan STOLE from dd and other acts. And sorry to say: they were horrible :)
How could Japan rip off Duran Duran, they precede them by years!!! Listen to their first album, Duran Duran sounded exactly the same as them, years later! Don't get me wrong I like both bands but there's being influenced by somebody and blatant copying. Anyway, this Howard Jones song is bloody brilliant!
@macaighann You are so right, anyone who was lucky enough to grow up in the 80's didn't realise just how lucky they were at the time,i was 7 in 1980 and spent the best years of my life in the best years of all time.........
Good for you! I can't believe this song is 25 yrs old!!!!!!! I was stationed in England 1993-95. I wished more of his songs were played, especially this one....but I live in Louisville, Kentucky, USA....they play 80's music here but songs heard ALL OF THE TIME! Let me DJ and I will change that!!!!
I can't believe how long it's been since I've heard this song. Had all this great 80's music on cassette tape. I think I'll have to dig that collection out because there seems to be a vacuum on the radio for the music of this time period.
Notice how back then music video was half-way intelligent: with plotting, structure and production values. These days it's a bunch of girls in bikinis dancing by the pool. Or a band onstage. Must be the only art form that has gone backwards.
bunniesonprozac you're so right! Music used to be much more emotive and better produced. Also, more artists used to write their own songs - like Howard Jones.
Sensitive, great song writer. His music identifies the 80's for me along with the other great bands from that era. Those were the final years of my youth. It sucks getting old but we can still be young at heart.
God, I haven't heard this song in...25 years? I'm not sure if that's good or bad, just an observation. Weird how songs can get engraved on your memory, isn't it.
My number 4 best song of all time. If I count the number of times I drove my crappy old Renault 5 at break neck speed with this blaring out of the stereo I would lose count, should have lost my license 50 times over, but that was the 80s and speed traps were rare thank goodness.
we have two of the same favorite songs. i must have listened to this hundreds of times and used to go to sleep to this album... i also love hey little girl so very much. it's a beautiful song!!
Life in your tunes ! Its simple senojdrawohmirror. The life is all there in your tunes its just that you are your worst critic. Perfection is not what you are looking for, in fact I bet your not looking for anything!! Its all there at your finger tips its all staring you in the face just stare right back and you'll see it...
HoJo is such an underated artist who deserved to be a gigger success than he was. This song went around ... and around ... and around... in my cassette player. My favorite song of his. Neat!
I haven't heard this song in a long time.I'd almost forgot he done this. Its one of his best after hearing it again.Has anyone checked out his Hide and Seek performance at Live Aid? What a great pianist he is! I'm glad he's still touring,i hope to catch him if he ever comes to a place near me.
yes i did ,i was working on the isle of man 7 years ago on my own and i found an old cassette tape in my car and it had that track on it,absolutely brilliant,it saved me from going insane
Please pass it on to your brother that Jasper's dad was the best British songwriter and performer of his generation and never quite got the acclaim he deserved!
Saxaphone by no less than Davey Payne ( from Ian Dury and the Blockheads). Jones's Humans Lib is one of those albums we should all listen to before we die.
I think that is his friend and former partner from his street performing days. His name is Jed Hoile and he is a mime and used to perform in white paint as Howard played music to his improved choreography.
Brilliant. Some memories x

Good for you! I can't believe this song is 25 yrs old!!!!!!! I was stationed in England 1993-95. I wished more of his songs were played, especially this one....but I live in Louisville, Kentucky, USA....they play 80's music here but songs heard ALL OF THE TIME! Let me DJ and I will change that!!!!
b62beers 2 years ago 5
I can't believe how long it's been since I've heard this song. Had all this great 80's music on cassette tape. I think I'll have to dig that collection out because there seems to be a vacuum on the radio for the music of this time period.

Loved this album, "Dream Into Action". Howard is a legend.

Great song, but this track is on the "Human's Lib" LP, not "Dream Into Action".
steve77london 2 years ago
You are quite correct. Getting confused in my old age. Both albums are wonderful...

At the very last second of this clip, you can here the intro to "Careless Whispers".

What a genius! Because of him started the musican inside of me!
stefanology 2 years ago 2
Notice how back then music video was half-way intelligent: with plotting, structure and production values. These days it's a bunch of girls in bikinis dancing by the pool. Or a band onstage. Must be the only art form that has gone backwards.
bunniesonprozac 3 years ago 12
bunniesonprozac you're so right! Music used to be much more emotive and better produced. Also, more artists used to write their own songs - like Howard Jones.

reminds me of being young and very much in love!!

Sensitive, great song writer. His music identifies the 80's for me along with the other great bands from that era. Those were the final years of my youth. It sucks getting old but we can still be young at heart.
mminer58 3 years ago 3
God, I haven't heard this song in...25 years? I'm not sure if that's good or bad, just an observation. Weird how songs can get engraved on your memory, isn't it.

I think it's definitely in the good category. Love the Human's Lib album.

My number 4 best song of all time. If I count the number of times I drove my crappy old Renault 5 at break neck speed with this blaring out of the stereo I would lose count, should have lost my license 50 times over, but that was the 80s and speed traps were rare thank goodness.

HoJo is such an underated artist who deserved to be a gigger success than he was. This song went around ... and around ... and around... in my cassette player. My favorite song of his. Neat!

I have confused "Look Mama" and this song.
Very similar melody.

Saxaphone by no less than Davey Payne ( from Ian Dury and the Blockheads). Jones's Humans Lib is one of those albums we should all listen to before we die.

Now im REALLY in love with the bald dude... 'Jed'.. anyone know who he is/was... he still around?? *drools...
davalos8000 4 years ago
I think that is his friend and former partner from his street performing days. His name is Jed Hoile and he is a mime and used to perform in white paint as Howard played music to his improved choreography.
