Not genuine refugees - why sail past many countries (including Muslim Indonesia and Malaysia) to be picky and choosey and go to Australia? MONEY is the answer. @AustraliaProud I totally agree with the current health and security screening process. What i disagree with is the length of time that these people are detained for. The way in which DIAC to process their claims is fundamentally flawed. They should not be held against their will once their refugee status is proven. Don't forget, if they are proven to be legitimate refugees, they have not committed a crime. And therefore, under international law, should not be held against their will.

They are honest, kind people and I'd be happy to see them as Australians. All they want to do is work and live freely. They do not want to be held in detention. Once these vessels violate Australian waters it is an act of invasion, regardless of whether they are armed or not (many are anyway) and the Australians are well within their rights to engage them, that is what they should do, issue a warning and if the vessel keeps aproaching then engage. Not being spent in offshore detention centres, which cost a whole lot more than detention centres in-country, there are government spending records to back that up. These asylum seekers are economic refugees. Are we expected to accept every poor person in the world? There are 15 million refugees in the world..are we obligated to accept them all?
My father was a refugee but he went throught he right channels and never complained about anything. these refugees come here illegally then expect instant citizenship along with welfare benefits, accomodation with free internet access. The way in which DIAC to process their claims is fundamentally flawed. They should not be held against their will once their refugee status is proven. Don't forget, if they are proven to be legitimate refugees, they have not committed a crime. And therefore, under international law, should not be held against their will.

They are honest, kind people and I'd be happy to see them as Australians. All they want to do is work and live freely. They do not want to be held in detention. Once these vessels violate Australian waters it is an act of invasion, regardless of whether they are armed or not (many are anyway) and the Australians are well within their rights to engage them, that is what they should do, issue a warning and if the vessel keeps aproaching then engage. Nobody in Australia wants these people, it only happens because of Australia's commitment to the UN.
