  • @elgatoputa, I just noticed your comment. How picky are you?

Every thing is the same in the lyrics posted and what is being sung, except for maybe 2 words, and one extra repeated line. Why don't you just write on post its, and stick it up on your computer covering up the words that you don't like, lol

  • My absolute favorite version of this song

  • I love this song since I was the first time in Ireland, long time ago, Peppi

  • the soul of liverpool is in this song. The pubs along the dock road, a singalong in the 'long bar' or 'the baltic fleet' these were pubs on the dock road. Getting pissed on Higsons bitter and smoking the 'woodbines'. The pubs were like the united nations, sailors off the boats all speaking different languages.

  • @SwindonByf Many Irish bands sings this song but its about the man who is born in Liverpool and his darling its confusing, so is this song english or irish?

  • @MarkoScouser18 Many Liverpudlians have Irish ancestry/consider themselves more Scouse than English

  • @MarkoScouser18 Its an British (rather than English or Irish) song, written by Ewan MacColl, born Salford, England in 1915 to Scottish parents.

MacColl was a communist who wrote such other delights as The Ballad of Stalin for the British Communist Party. He was also a member of the CND.

  • @jonewer

Though i love Jimmy Miller (Ewan MacColl stage name) this song can't be attributed to him, it's an old English sea shanty first gathered in1890s from sailors plying there trade on fast clipper ships out of Liverpool docks

  • Wonderful song from a amazing band!

    Cheers from Sweden!

  • My Dad used to sing this to me. The guitar sound the same. It's like nostalgia.

  • bye bye liverpool

  • 1 of my very favourite songs of all time of all genres that I listen to....Many a drunken night was ended on these notes!....Slainte'

  • I kind of like this version, a little more Dylanish and less of that proper grammar that English often commands. Got to save it and God Bless your soul for sharing. Mark

  • @elgatoputa It's a traditional shanty, so the lyrics varies a bit from whoever sings it. This is my favourite so far, but there's a lokal shanty group who's version I also love.

  • who the fuck dislikes this? it's the fucking Pogues! greatest band of all time!

  • i live in california and i love this song.

  • its not 'If he's not then he's sure to tell'

its 'If he's not then he's sure in hell'

  • this song was written in the 1800s. So sorry if it disappointed the modern audience. Jeez. Tough room!

  • Poor howsoon--- did they kick you out of English class? I'll cry over your insults when you learn to spell. Moron.

  • just discovered this song, love it!

  • I 'get it', the earthy plain rustic thing, but, could have been better, especially the chorus. Sorry.

  • It was originally on the 12" Sally MacLennane single, it's now on the remastered edition of "Red Rose For Me"

  • I love this song!

I would give you 10 stars if I could but heres 5!
