OMG, I have looked for this song for years and years, could not remember name of it and misspelled Taxxi initially by saying Taxi when I tried to google it. Well, here it is! Have not heard this since about 1984 or so. Wow, great to hear it again.
@mrdouglas51510 The bass player on the album played with others like Narda Michael Walden and Journey, but you probably know him from American Idol. His name is Randy Jackson.
I had this albums too. What I remember is the non stop bass drum .What a great sound.Must be a wood beater.New york city,s got the same pump to it just faster. Also excellant guitar tone.
The guitarist here performing was a local Bay Area dude named Danny Chauncey
and he played all the parties in alameda along with Brad Gillis from Night Ranger back in the good old days .He played 38 specials song "Hold on Loosely" when
it first came out so perfectly almost like he wrote it and then he auditioned for
the band years later and he is still a member to this day. "Hell Yeah".....
@MrSmokeydog Hard to believe neither the Taxxi or Mistress albums have never made it CD. I did write Renaissance Records about both & its president & founded seemed interesteed in reissuing both. RR has a feedback link. I think we should all write that company & give them our feedback regarding this. Maybe this might persuade RR to reissue these albums. RR's site is loacated at cdthen(dot)net.
@MrSmokeydog Before it was Eddie Money's hit, Bay Area (Oakland to be exact) melodic arena rock band Billy Satellite (fronted by Monte Byrom; Danny Chauncey played keyboards; maybe that's the band you're referring to) made it a very minor pop hit (pos #78) in 1984. Then the Money Man recorded it & it became a huge hit for him. I didn't know Gregg Rollie had a solo album. All Music Guide doesn't list it. The Billy Satellite album can be found at iTunes. I like their hit "Satisfy Me" which rocks.
KILLER track! This track received moderate air play on Boston's--then WBCN. Tried finding it then, but never did. Haven't heard this even once since '82! This sounds like a "hybrid" of Foreigner & Kings X ----at least now I know what album it's on and the release date. Thanks for posting---great track!!
Wish Fantasy Records/UMG would reissue this band's discography on CD & make it available at iTunes. Best available thing is the band's anthology CD titled "Chequered Past" which includes this track.
@lubosfan I completely agree!!! One of my favorite recorded kick drum sounds. Very unique tone - not many bands/recordings get this particular tone. And I also love how it's so loud - no chance of it getting lost in the mix!
What a tune, brings me back to my high school days...when AOR rock stations weren't shy about playing songs like this or entire album sides or three or four songs in a row from the same artist...
I remember thinking this song was new Bad Company when it first came out...
Whoever posted this song is sooooo cool!! This is an excellent break up song..... I know it was for me! I will never forget cranking this out in my car when I was 20! THank You!!!
@drobo74 I have to ask, why would there be any shame? What's wrong with being black? I want to know what you meant....please elaborate. I'm white, and I love many black artist of yesterday. I don't like Rap but that's another subject. I'm a Texan and I hate country music also. Have you listened to a band called "in living color?" Sly and the family stone, there are many others, I could go on and on.
@brofranomo To answer your question, my uncle listen to rock n roll when he was in high school. That's was the first inspired me. Then I've wacthed MTV a lot when I first got cable. Music been my life when I was little.
@brofranomo What about Stevie Wonder (BTW he was on AOR radio all thru the 70s)? Tina Turner? Joan Armatrading? Ever hear of 80s R&B-rock group Roachford? Or Jon Butcher? Or Garland Jeffreys? Even Prince was hip in the early 80s. Bob Marley & Otis Redding (RIP to both) will always be cool in my book.
Cool that Randy Jackson jammed w/Taxxi (he's shown in the vid) but I have to say that "Am Idol" is the reason why today's music sucks so much!
@bucky468 I couldn't disagree w/you anymore. Any classic rock fan would disagree. Idol accounts for most of what's wrong w/today's music. Look how many 80s originals were ruined by Idol contestants. Berlin "Take My Breath Away", Mike + The Mechanics "The Living Years", Roxette "Listen To Your Heart", Survivor "Eye of The Tiger" & of course the original USA For Africa "We Are The World" (which features multiple Idol alums.)
@bucky468 I just went to your channel. You're from Ohio? I'm in Texas. Arlington to be more exact. One of your fellow Ohio'ans murdered a personal friend of mine on Oct. 8 of 04. Person that murdered him was Nathan Gale. One other thing, what makes you a music expert? You just seem to be another person with an opinion, just like all of us experts.
@brofranomo Hey I don't condone w/Gale murdering Dimebag (RIP) & the other victims that night or (Gale's) take no prisoners attitude. I was a fan of Dime & his music when he was in Pantera. I didn't hear DamagePlan until after his death. Gale was a psycho & he got his when one brave Columbus police officer fired his gun & wasted him putting that nut out of his misery.
@bucky468 I didn't mean to imply that you might condone it. I work a lot of hours and sometimes I have a short fuse from exhaustion, literally and all of us think about Darrell often. I still remember the day, my sister called me and told me Darrell had been killed. Now on a different subject of being an expert. No one is an expert, not even you. You have an opinion, as I do, and I respect that. I know a lot about what I like in classic rock. Go to my channel. I've removed and added many songs.
@brofranomo You made a point on being an "expert." I should call myself an amateur expert which is much different from a professional. But music is my hobby & I'm no fan of today's music not even the rock aspect of it. I stopped listening to new music after 2006 (w/exception of maybe very few ROCK songs - not Kid Rock's butchering of "Werewolves of London"/"Sweet Home Alabama" which I think he disgraced.)
@bucky468 I have to agree with you on the kid rock thing. I like Foo Fighters also, I believe the front was drummer for Nirvana. I'm a very big fan of Tool also. Have been since the first time I heard them doing "sober."
@brofranomo Yes, FF singer Dave Grohl drummed for Nirvana for the trio's 2 biggest hit albums "Nevermind" (1991) & "In Utero" (1993.) After Kurt Cobain's death in 1994 he broke up Nirvana so he could do his own thing & start his own band. Enter Foo Fighters. Though a dark power rock/prog band I always liked Tool b/c of who they cited as influences. Tool's singer's a big prog fan. So am I.
@bucky468 You know, we were talking about kid rock the other day. Another song he butchered I heard today was "werewolves of london" Which I like. I knew he left after Kurts deatn and, and my opinion, a major talent. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "prog". Maynard has such a dynamic, prevalent voice, kerchoo, excuse me!! I have to say, I'm sorry we almost started on the wrong foot here, I'm thinking maybe you're not so bad. At least you can have a civil conservation.
@brofranomo Prog - Progressive Rock. Some may call it art rock. Tool is alternative prog metal. Maynard's influences range from Jethro Tull (sans Ian Anderson's flute) to Pink Floyd to King Crimson to Rush (all prog bands.)
@brofranomo Actually I already mentioned "Werewolves of London" which was lumped in w/the similar sounding "Sweet Home Alabama" for KR's hit "All Summer Long" which I always thought was a blatant ripoff of the 2 songs. Warren Zevon had to be rolling in his grave from that. WZ's longtime friend David Letterman didn't think too highly of the song either.
@bucky468 By the way. Darrell knew I was not a big fan of Pantera when we met. He was nothing like the "rock star image" or personality. I met him in 97. One of the worst things about the memory of him is that everyone liked him, a lot. He was one in 10 million, and that's probably being conservative. Since his death, I have paid more attention thanks to you tube on Darrell. I knew he was big, I just didn't know he was that big. Europe loved him even more and he was a friend of mine.
@brofranomo Darrell had lots of friends from the recording industry including Nickelback, Motley Crue & Metallica (Pantera's archrival metal band.) Well liked individual. That nut who killed him murdered a well accomplished musician. Waht's so eerie about this is that it happened on the 24th anniversary of John Lennon being murdered (same day.)
@brofranomo I study up on music via All Music Guide, Billboard, RollingStone (although it's no good anymore) & other notable online music sources - not just by watching MTV, VH1 et al or listening to the radio. I used to be a college radio DJ & learned. I'm only an expert on classic rock music. I knew about Taxxi when they first came about in 1982 when MTV was the real deal. Now it's nothing more than a joke.
@bucky468 I was not a big fan of Pantera, but Darrell knew that about me and he didn't care and was a good friend. I'm 55 and I have always liked rock since I heard Elvis do 'hound dog." I'm in Texas as you know and I hate country. It's not in my blood. Do you not like Stained, or Chevelle just to start with? I also like several types of music. Andrea Bocelli is amazing. Blind Italian with an amazing voice. Considered world wide by his piers as one of the best voices in the world.
@brofranomo I only like a handful of songs by Staind. Never liked Chevelle or any bands like them. I used to like Nickelback but their latest album has unimpressed me. I still like Foo Fighters. Today's rock is so dark & depressing that it's worse than what came out during the grunge yrs. It's taken a severe nosedive imo. I've taken a liking to "throwback" bands like Wolfmother & Airbourne though. Bocelli's not my kind of music but my mother likes it. Yes the man can sing.
@brofranomo Only liked early Staind (first 3 albums.) Their music has gone downhill as has Puddle of Mudd. I don't think there's anything wrong being devoted to the old school. I can't say I blame any of today's kids for abandoning their generation & tune into the classic rock era. Classic rock is timeless & they don't make music like they used to.
@brofranomo Dave Mason's 1977 classic "We Just Disagree" was also ruined by an Idol contestant (I can't remember who it was.) Every ssn 2 finalist butchered "God Bless The USA."
I'm gonna say it right now - I hate American Idol & I'm glad I don't watch it. I'm proud to be a fan of nothing but old school. I hate today's music. It sucks!
@bucky468 You say you don't watch it but apparently you do. Look at what you wrote me. You obviously came here to argue about something which I have no interest in and I don't care if you agree, or disagree. I don't watch the show at all. If you think they're making some kind of impact on todays music, then you must live in a cave. I did you tube that gay kid do "ring of fire" which was very good because he made it his song. He has star written all over him and his talent.
@brofranomo I don't watch the show. The highlights are all over TV that it's so hard to get away from it. Also even though I don't listen to pop radio & I do go to places (mainly retailers & restaurants) that play music on the store jukebox or whatever (a la Walmart, Barnes & Noble, Staples, Applebees et al) & forced to hear it b/c I have no other choice. I know much of the new music came from AI b/c that's the show's base. I only watched it ONCE - never again!!
@drobo74 I tell you. It's sad for me to say that classic rock radio does not play enough black rock artists from the past. The only black artists I ever hear on standard classic rock radio anymore are Hendrix, Living Colour, War & at times Chambers Brothers not to mention bands that feature black members like Bruce/E St Band, Doobie Bros, Thin Lizzy & GN'R (Slash's black.) No Funkadelic, Tina Turner, Bob Marley or Stevie Wonder. That's just criminal neglect & I'm a white guy!
@drobo74 Another excellent black rock band from the past that you may have never heard of is Automatic Man. They put out 2 albums in the late 70s. I think the singer sang for Mungo Jerry (of "In The Summertime" fame.) Santana's original drummer Michael Shrieve was in that band. Their lone charting hit was "My Pearl."
I know this song was all over AOR radio in 1982 but what type of rock is this classified under - new wave or melodic arena rock? Whatever it is it's now been dissed by both AOR & classic rock radio which is a shame b/c this song rocks!!
Awsome old tune, crusin,ST.L on South Lindburgh, fast cars, drag racing in my Chevelle cassette decks anyone, now digital, addin to my many!
