They actually have made three different Hollowbody Models. The Coronado was the first, then there was the hollowbody late 60s Thinline Telecaster (not differentiated from the semi-hollow Thinline that was introduced in '72 with Seth Lover's Wide Range Humbucking pickup. Newer reissues of the 60s Thinline use the 70s Thinline construction methods though), and the Fender Starcaster (not to be confused with the cheap starter pack strat).
@Philtration Because it wasn't competitive in sales... the market interested in a hollow guitar was eaten up by Fender's competitors before the Coronado even hit the market, and most of that market wouldn't be interested in a bolt-on neck. Things may be different these days, of course...
@PopExpo The closest thing you can buy to this is a Hagstrom Viking IIP its a bolt on hollowbody 335 shape and P90s I'm probably gonna get one myself when I come into some money
@elitemathlete do you understand how stupid an idea that is? Modify a brilliant retro guitar which would devalue it, for some pickups which would make the guitar loose all its single-coil character, the pickups high-gain output would cause huge amounts of feedback on it's hollow body. Guitars like this dont need updating, leave the EMGs to the identakit Ibanez's.
@elitemathlete Because it's not supposed to sound or be like a 335, it has a really unique tone, and ruining that with EMGs would be a really bad idea
This is the Guitar my father left my Mom and I when he passed away, His most prized possession, She gave it to me and said I needed to play it for him.
Now it's just sitting there, I dunno how I could pick it up, But it is the most beautiful thing in this world, unplugged or live.
@rallyivan1234 different sounds completely, the coronado's great, people approach it like a strat or a les paul, but if you approach it with an open mind and listen to it's own qualities, you'll get shown a reallllll good time :)
weird oddball guitars, but with tons of mojo and vibe ,Id love to get one on the cheap, guitar vintage snobs kinda skip over these but they actualy sound and play really good
I've had mine since it was new in '67. It's almost a Carolina blue. I've always loved it except the feedback onstage could be a nightmare if you weren't ALWAYS aware of where you were standing in relation to the speakers.
My uncle has a Coronado with the Antigua finish . I'm not sure of the year , but he bought it brand new as a teenager living near Pottsville , Pa . . He always tells me " I used to drink free Yuenglings because of this thing . " I'm hoping he'll remember his favorite nephew when he's ready to part with it . I know Coronados aren't worth a lot of money . But to me , his is priceless .
I can`t understand what all the fuss is about these Coronados. They weren`t that brilliant when new (I know, I had one about 1968 kept it for about 3 weeks.Traded it in for a Strat..!) They looked fine but sounded tinny and fed back before I could get any volume because of the hollow body construction. But I suppose rarity has something to do with it and the fact that they weren`t around that long makes them a bit scarce and probably desirable to a younger generation - what floats your boat..!
I inherited a 65 same color except mine has a bisby tailpiece. One of the pickups or a control knob is not working and the paint is flaking. Do you know anyone who works on these giutars. I am a picker and have a large collection of guitars but because of the sentimental value I would like to get this guitar back up to par. Thanks, Sherrill
That has some really sweet chord tones. A little lacking in lead tone but damn, those chord tones are amazing. I love the warmth and the shape of all the notes in the chord. Great balance...sweet guitar.
I personally love the overdrive on the hotrod series amps .. very nice guitar btw .. if you would be interested in giving it to me for free, let me know !! I will even split the shipping cost with ya! HA! j/k ..
I always wanted a Cornado. I play lefty and have seen one from time to time (lefties are out there but few and far between). These are true hollowbodies (more like ES330's)than ES335's. Also these have Dearmond single coil pickups. Thanks for the demo. Mark
also Graham Coxon from Blur used one in the video for "she's so high" i think. They are cheaper than most vintage guitars on ebay so you all best get one. Also, these type of hollowbodies are supposed to be bolt on neck. They're not supposed to sustain thats what gives the guitar a more snappy tone in conjunction with the dearmond single coils.
Man I just cant stop watching this!! I love that guitar...Fender is the greatest! so if you guys are into BCRich and crap go to their videos and stop commenting in this one!
i think it sounds great. it would be better if he took rolled the bass off a bit and perhaps more treble. these guitars are great...if you're into this kind of tone, which i am. personally (to comment on earlier posts), i find ibanez guitars to have no soul whatsoever apart from maybe my £200 jetking. almost everyone i know who has one has his head up joe satriani's ass
I agree with you, with the exception of a few of Ibanezes Hollow-bodies. I went to guitar center looking for a hollow-body, tried all kinds of epiphones (I was looking for a cheaper one) and even tried a cheaper gretsch or 2, and the $375 Ibanez AF75 was the best of them all. Best discount guitar I've ever found.
my first semi-acoustic was a ibanez AS-93 (i think). It was mahogany and flamed sycamore top. Less than £300. It was great but the neck was too fat and i traded it in for an acoustic. I should have kept it. I have a ibanez semi-acoustic bass with one humbucker. Its amazing. Its the only bass i'll use until i find an epiphone rivoli on ebay
Just get it fool!!! Do a Hendrix man, who cares? He rocked cuz he just did it no crap. And look hes dead and his name was mentioned again. No I'm not a fan of his music.
