It's supply and demand, folks. You can preach to people to quit doing drugs, and some may think that's an option, but plenty more will continue doing them. Legalization is the best method for decreasing the violence. ALL drugs were legal less than a century ago.
Look at how many people were killed and injured during alcohol prohibition. Is it any surprise that the prohibition installed after it is rife with violence? Cannabis was made illegal to keep alcohol prohibition enforcers employed.
Now we are fighting a war on 3 fronts. We can put 20k troops downs there and the Patriot Act can override any agreement not to confront illegals. This is a threat to naitonal security.

However, our approach as to how to deal with this on our streets have been different. We have maintained law and order since the days of Al Capone.
