  • hey, great job playing to one of the songs that helped me discover "metal" in 7th grade. This and "cum on feel the noise" really opened the doors for bands like Ratt with "round and round" that were popular soon after. Even my kids like these old bands better than anything that is out today.

  • @canadianboater ... yeah this album was huge for me too. I got it for my 12th birthday in November, 1983, when I was also in 7th grade. I agree with your assessment of the impact too, especially on the LA scene. I always considered Van Halen the pioneers of that scene, but there was a huge time gap between their first album and when the LA scene exploded (probably because they were light years ahead). It wasn't really until this album that the LA scene became heavily scouted by the labels.

  • @BIGCHEAPSHOT79 Oh hell yeah, thats my religion right there!!!!

  • Mate, simply awesome. I play too but am into the same music as you. Check out my stuff, and if you wanna collab....lets rock.

  • @thunzie ...hey thanks man, you rock indeed. I'm crazy busy with projects but let's try and do something later in the year.. keep in touch!

  • what tuning is that? i atched your vid like a hundred times, just cant get the sound you got

  • @nopowerlaser .. it's just standard tuning. Rock on

  • nice production my man-top notch guitarrin to boot, dont stop da hell bent for leather

  • @BIGCHEAPSHOT79 ....LOL you must have had a kick ass Thanksgiving! Me too!

  • wow dude awesome

  • @MrScottki ... thanks!!!

  • HOW COME THIS GUY IS NOT ON METALICA OR SOMETHING?

  • @MrIvanHalen ....thanks bro... I'm probably not dysfunctional enough to hang out with Lars. :)

  • @MrIvanHalen ... seriously, I love their early music... I just had to say that :)

  • Abslolutely awesome!!! I've checked out a few tab sites for the solos...especially the second one with the tapping...and they don't sound right. Perhaps it's my ears. Did you learn the solos from tab or by ear and if by tab could you point me to the proper tab...or as a long shot write out the tab for the solo I mentioned above?

  • @magicalalan1 ...sorry for the delayed response. I must have missed this question before. It's been so long that I don't recall which tab I used to learn it, but it was probably the Powertab version found on the ultimate-guitar . com website. I get most of my tabs from there. To open the Powertab file, you have to have the Powertab software first which you can get free from Download . com. I didn't learn it note-for-note either... I tend to personalize the solos a little because I'm lazy :)

  • Wow!! awesome man!!

  • Dude, that cover was AMAZING!!!!

  • @aquemeni541 Thanks Alex! Rock on!

  • Nice cover \m/ :D Which program do you use for recording ?

  • @ibanez11098 ...thanks! On my main page, I describe the recording technique. Basically I mix audio and video using Sony Vegas

  • Comment removed

  • What kind of guitar do you have?

  • @connormc711 ..this guitar is a Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Custom 24. The 24 is because it has 24 frets. However, it's not a custom made guitar, despite the name. The PRS Custom 24 is simply the name of PRS's first guitar model which debuted in the mid-80s, and continues to be their flagship/core model.

  • Great cover, mate!

  • Great Band, great song AND Great Cover :)

  • EXCELENTE !!!!

  • you rock man thanks for the tips i always get that stegato run wrong now I got it.

  • Ibanez Jem ?

  • What amp did you use?

  • @SkylorMaxon ... Peavey JSX (the Satriani amp). I have a brief description of my gear and recording technique on my main page

  • you should make a tab

  • Amazing job dude, how did you learn all this, by ear, or by tabs?

  • @legojunk53 ... hey thanks! I had the tabs, but even with tabs I usually make adjustments of my own since most tabs aren't 100% accurate and/or I like to add my own parts too

  • Hey man,can you give me that version of Metal Health without guitar...vocal/drums/bass ?

  • @DimoQuetRiotFun ... I did not keep a copy of the backing track, but you can download it for free at guitarbackingtrack . com. Rock on!

  • @PDXguitarfreak Yeahh,thanks man !! Thumbs up !

  • PRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • your tongue is huge! xDDD

    Rock on

    Dave!!!

  • @FameGuitar77 hahaha thanks bro, I have been complimented on that before by the ladies too.. cums in handy! ;)

  • @PDXguitarfreak hahahahhahahahaa Whata nice commi ^.^

More tongue vids pls ^.^ :D

  • Haha how ironic, at 1:18 "more power" (vocals) and that C power chord you play sounds beautiful.

    Thanks!

  • @DanielTRulz Thanks! :)

  • May I ask which amps/pedals dis you use for this? And which video edition software?

  • @KingTabor ... I used a Peavey JSX amp. No distortion pedal needed, as the JSX is capable of nice gain. For effects, I used a little bit of chorus and reverb during the clean parts, and some delay/reverb on the leads. The recording software is Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I list my gear and recording technique on my main page :)

  • nice prs im thinkin a getin 1. what do you think of it?

  • @RockGuitarDave .... It feels very comfortable to me, but obviously that is personal preference. It also has a nice thick tone to it - leads sing. It's definitely more of a Gibson tone, in part because of the humbuckers (which sound great), and the neck-thru body construction. It has locking tuners so it stays in tune relatively well - better than a Strat with a bar, but you still can't go Floyd Rose crazy on it (they do have a model with a Floyd on it now though).

  • @RockGuitarDave ...part two. The single coil tones (which can be dialed in using the 8 position dial) are ok, but not great. It's really more better suited for humbucker tones. Other than that, I am very happy with the guitar. I have wanted one since I was a teenager in the 80s, and finally gave in and plunked down the cash about 5 years ago. This model (Custom 24), runs for around $2500-3000 USD.

  • great cover and video overall, congrats! I myself - despite living in Brazil my entire life - get amazed also by this record and all rock and metal music coming from that era (80's). Later I became a guitar player but that's another story.

  • @KingTabor ...thank you! I love the 80s too - the best guitar music! :)

  • fantastico.Excelente

  • @nottinghamprisa - gracias!

  • i'm only 15, but let me say, you have awesome taste! oh btw, do you actually have an afro? xD

  • @TasteForDisaster ... LOL you like my hair? I know, it's super sexy :)

  • absolutely killer cover man. Where can i get that pic at the very end from? i want that for a screen saver. rip kevin

  • @rookieg ..thanks man, but I don't have the pic anymore. I just googled Kevin Dubrow and searched the results to find it. :)

  • nice cover and guitar man

  • LOL you rock dude fuck yeah

  • yeah

  • Way to rock the Paul Reed Smith guitar! Those bluesy metal solos never cease to amaze me. Damn good job, and keep up the good work.

  • is it me or does this kind of sound like a line 6 i was going to upgrade my amp for 80s rock but idk which to buy and this kind of sounds like my spider 3 so idk what to do im so confused im thinking my spider 3 sound real good

  • @12345678ix ....actually this is from an amp... well, it's from the speaker. I have the Peavey JSX head and the JSX speaker cab, and the cab has a "speaker simulator" output that I run straight into the PC. There is more detail on my main channel page.

  • Legend

  • @MrMisterBluesman thanks! :)

  • Awesome guitar playing ! I ve been trying to get that sound ! ♫ peter ruellan music

  • Yeah!! Love the history lesson too - although, frankly, I think I have you beat by a couple of years & I got my first guitar in 19ahem...... Pity I still can't play it all that well. 1983 was a good year - I moved to London (as a student), didn't drink for a year & saved up my grant money to buy an Ibanez RS1010SL Steve Lukather (because I liked the colour....). I still have it - and the tart's handbag Gibson Flying V2 that was my first "real" guitar. Good times!

  • Another rockin' performance. I actually have one of those Quiet Riot albums with Randy. Had to get everything I could with him on it. He's the reason I started playing in '86. He even plays flute on the album. Let's just say it is interesting.

  • Nice cover Dave. Awesome solo. Keep on rockin bro!!!!

  • you rock, man, cool cover.

  • LMAO 3:37 !

  • You are one Metal Healthy dude, man (dude... man? I'll go with it) !! You have me beat by a year with your first guitar (Sears Flying V, cherry finish, $50.00), and I remember buying this cassette tape because if the awesome cover... I SO wanted that mask, that I made a tinfoil version attached to my dad's construction helmet innards, which made air jamming that much more fun...

  • @0AllForNaught0 dude that is hilarious! the mask was pretty damn cool I bet! :)

  • @0AllForNaught0 haha...that mask bit is funny...my first was a Hondo "V"

  • damn! are there any songs you can't play perfectly?

  • @elementx20jr LOL I pick easy songs :)

  • @PDXguitarfreak haha. easy for you... you must practice every day

  • Awesome. I recently saw Carlos Cavazo playing with Ratt. Good memories my friend and great playing.

  • awesome tune, great cover, is that Paul Stanley doing the vocals?lol

  • @kg4st thanks man, that's probably my favorite era of music - early 80s. Probably because that's when I was really starting to want to play guitar :)

  • damn dude you rock man! you must be sub-human bro! GREAT PLAYING :)

  • @scbene LOL thanks man! :)

  • Great playing Dave and nice video footage. That tongue at 5:19 was intimidating. Are you akin to Gene Simmons? =P

I started listening to metal at the age of 16, back then in 1990. So I kind of missed the direct link to those great times, but I had lots of time to catch up and get all those great 80s albums.

    Rock on!

    Seb

  • @Asphyx123 LOL thanks Seb! Yeah I have been complimented on my tongue many times - especially the ladies ;)

  • Excellent tribute Dave....amazing as always! Brings back so many memories.....I think I wore two copies of that album...well actually, it was 8 track...lol (bet half the readers don't have a clue) ;)

Carlos Cavazo had a very cool style, and didn't get as much recognition as I thought he should have...

One thing I really appreciate with you, is you aren't hung up on arpeggio/sweep picking stuff...You play the real deal Rock n' Roll !!!

    Keep up the good work!!

  • @albooher1 hey thanks man, I still have my vinyl copy! And yeah you will rarely catch me doing the arpeggio/sweeps - I feel much more comfortable in the VH or Rhoads styles of rock :)

  • love the studded braclet dude...lol!!!!!! great song to choose bro!!!!

  • @Tomd1013 LOL hey a harmonica can kick ass too... I love the harmonica Ozzy did on The Wizard!

  • Everyone says you are a great player. (Which is very true) But I am go a bit different route. Not only do you play extremely well, But your videos are VERY ENTERTAINING to watch. It isnt just "Some dude playing a cover" of whatever song.
