hey, great job playing to one of the songs that helped me discover "metal" in 7th grade. This and "cum on feel the noise" really opened the doors for bands like Ratt with "round and round" that were popular soon after. Even my kids like these old bands better than anything that is out today.
@canadianboater ... yeah this album was huge for me too. I got it for my 12th birthday in November, 1983, when I was also in 7th grade. I agree with your assessment of the impact too, especially on the LA scene. I always considered Van Halen the pioneers of that scene, but there was a huge time gap between their first album and when the LA scene exploded (probably because they were light years ahead). It wasn't really until this album that the LA scene became heavily scouted by the labels.
Abslolutely awesome!!! I've checked out a few tab sites for the solos...especially the second one with the tapping...and they don't sound right. Perhaps it's my ears. Did you learn the solos from tab or by ear and if by tab could you point me to the proper tab...or as a long shot write out the tab for the solo I mentioned above?
@magicalalan1 ...sorry for the delayed response. I must have missed this question before. It's been so long that I don't recall which tab I used to learn it, but it was probably the Powertab version found on the ultimate-guitar . com website. I get most of my tabs from there. To open the Powertab file, you have to have the Powertab software first which you can get free from Download . com. I didn't learn it note-for-note either... I tend to personalize the solos a little because I'm lazy :)
@connormc711 ..this guitar is a Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Custom 24. The 24 is because it has 24 frets. However, it's not a custom made guitar, despite the name. The PRS Custom 24 is simply the name of PRS's first guitar model which debuted in the mid-80s, and continues to be their flagship/core model.
@legojunk53 ... hey thanks! I had the tabs, but even with tabs I usually make adjustments of my own since most tabs aren't 100% accurate and/or I like to add my own parts too
@KingTabor ... I used a Peavey JSX amp. No distortion pedal needed, as the JSX is capable of nice gain. For effects, I used a little bit of chorus and reverb during the clean parts, and some delay/reverb on the leads. The recording software is Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I list my gear and recording technique on my main page :)
@RockGuitarDave .... It feels very comfortable to me, but obviously that is personal preference. It also has a nice thick tone to it - leads sing. It's definitely more of a Gibson tone, in part because of the humbuckers (which sound great), and the neck-thru body construction. It has locking tuners so it stays in tune relatively well - better than a Strat with a bar, but you still can't go Floyd Rose crazy on it (they do have a model with a Floyd on it now though).
@RockGuitarDave ...part two. The single coil tones (which can be dialed in using the 8 position dial) are ok, but not great. It's really more better suited for humbucker tones. Other than that, I am very happy with the guitar. I have wanted one since I was a teenager in the 80s, and finally gave in and plunked down the cash about 5 years ago. This model (Custom 24), runs for around $2500-3000 USD.
great cover and video overall, congrats! I myself - despite living in Brazil my entire life - get amazed also by this record and all rock and metal music coming from that era (80's). Later I became a guitar player but that's another story.
is it me or does this kind of sound like a line 6 i was going to upgrade my amp for 80s rock but idk which to buy and this kind of sounds like my spider 3 so idk what to do im so confused im thinking my spider 3 sound real good
@12345678ix ....actually this is from an amp... well, it's from the speaker. I have the Peavey JSX head and the JSX speaker cab, and the cab has a "speaker simulator" output that I run straight into the PC. There is more detail on my main channel page.

Yeah!! Love the history lesson too - although, frankly, I think I have you beat by a couple of years & I got my first guitar in 19ahem...... Pity I still can't play it all that well. 1983 was a good year - I moved to London (as a student), didn't drink for a year & saved up my grant money to buy an Ibanez RS1010SL Steve Lukather (because I liked the colour....). I still have it - and the tart's handbag Gibson Flying V2 that was my first "real" guitar. Good times!
Another rockin' performance. I actually have one of those Quiet Riot albums with Randy. Had to get everything I could with him on it. He's the reason I started playing in '86. He even plays flute on the album. Let's just say it is interesting.
You are one Metal Healthy dude, man (dude... man? I'll go with it) !! You have me beat by a year with your first guitar (Sears Flying V, cherry finish, $50.00), and I remember buying this cassette tape because if the awesome cover... I SO wanted that mask, that I made a tinfoil version attached to my dad's construction helmet innards, which made air jamming that much more fun...
You rocked this up Dave!! What a great one for you to cover!! That Us Festival in CA must have been wild with all those band...I saw Motley Crue a few years back and they are still sooo good!
@LarkeSongs I think the back track is from one of the Guitar Hero or Rock Band games... I like using those for backtracks because the quality is usually pretty good :)

Everyone says you are a great player. (Which is very true) But I am go a bit different route. Not only do you play extremely well, But your videos are VERY ENTERTAINING to watch. It isnt just "Some dude playing a cover" of whatever song.
Great video man, Enjoyied it.
And ive met Kevin Dubrow once, He was a classy guy. He could talk your ear off. lol He hung around alot of us backstage for at least 20mins before he had to go. RIP
@got2choose Hey thanks for the nice props man. I bet Kevin talked your ear off! LOL the man was known for his loud mouth. I say that with the greatest respect :)
@pyrogod67 thanks man! And it was a tough solo for me too... kind of quirky pharsing... that's why I improvised much of it, but tried to stay close in

RIP
