  • love this song

  • I love this song! The first time I heard this was over the radio...then my sweet country boyfriend was holding me while he whispered this into my ear! Merry Christmas Sweetheart I LOVE YOU!!!!

    ~Ur Babydoll

  • Great song! Originally done by Johnny Horton back in the 50's. Nice version.

  • This song reminds me of my uncle.... he was constantly playing this song.... he was always singing this to his wife <3

    RIP Uncle Faron...

  • Nice guitar part he played. Compimented the ol' honky tonk.

  • George rocks!! One of my favorite!

  • I sure wish music could still be as good as this;;;; All the music these days sucks;;;;

  • the song was originaly released in 1989 the clip was from a concert in 1995 i do belive

  • WOW! I sure would have liked to have been at this concert!! Geroge Jones is the greatest!

  • all hail to King George!

  • Josh Turners version is better but this is a classic.

  • @zack245730771 You're wrong there! I just listened to Josh's. It's good, but there's only one George Jones. Nobody can sound like George Jones! I don't care who does the song, it's not going to beat the original.

  • @zack245730771 Georges version is better, and I'll agree it is a classic. This is "Real" country music. Today's country music cannot carry a candle to the old time country singers.

  • great

  • i love this song

  • man his voice can make you faint lol. LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • i have been and wont stop being

  • old timer butt still awsome

  • I seen George in concert a few years ago, he was wonderful!!!!

  • funny thing is this man beet his wife..... also he is not a woman man, country is about being honest and truthful ..... George is not doing that.....

  • @Hicktown125

maybe not so in his younger days, but with his present wife , i think he is being truthful . concert recorded in 1993 he had already been happily married to Nancy ten years. I am glad he found his way and been able to stick around this long . God Bless you George as your near 80th birthday!

  • @Hicktown125 Seems like someone has BEAT your ass because you can't spell or use proper puntuation. I think George Jones is a hell of a nice guy. What he did in the past is in the past. Do you understand that?

  • Comment removed

  • To me this is when George's voice was at its best he sounded so good in these years of his life.

  • Todays country sucks.Sing it George!!!

  • Awesome Possum!!

  • love this man,forever,sue

  • My favorite country song of all time!! <33333333333

  • hell yell

  • Just fantastic

  • I remember when this song came out, my little boy was about 3 and he thought George was saying "I'm a one hummin' man." This takes me back to those good days because my little boy turned 27 last week. Doesn't this song, especially this version, make you want to get up and jig? I LOVE it!

  • Song still rocks, Thank's "Show Up Jones". Brings back the 60's to me, original artist Johnny Horton's song. Go listen to the original song, but remember he didn't have early 90's band, just the small late 50's band. All I can say "Johnny made George do it" We,ll Jones "North to Alaska" next

  • Kid rock and Uncle Kracker sucks

  • 2 deaf and blind people out there......

  • Well... theres 2 non-contested friggin' idiots out there......

  • Am I the only one that thinks George Jones can't sing a lick?!?!

  • @jahaley3298 pretty much.

  • @Fragalishus This is from George Jones Live in Tennessee from 1992, I know because i was there. It was an awesome show. Jones is one hell of a performer and the king of country music.

  • Love this song....This is one of the songs that made me fall in love with my husband..I LOVE YOU HONEY

  • should hear Glen Campbell sing this <3

  • George Jones The King of Country Music.....

  • I think he's the antichrist. But I am pretty wasted right now.

  • Mr. george jones ,lady & Gentelemem !

  • ol george has $10,000 worth of guitars on stage! 2 martin D41's. dang it, only for the king

  • <3 I love George Jones..if I were ever to marry..it would be George..seeing as thats not gonna happen..I guess II'll never get married

  • Happy Birthday GEORGE !!!!

  • concert recorded live in 1993 Knockville,Tn.Saw George Jones this year in Berggettstown,Pa.He's getting up in age.still good at 80 years old!The best!

  • My husband sang this song to me quite often through the years, hitting the low parts with a grin on his face. He died a year ago today of cancer. I found it on Youtube awhile back, but I really needed to hear it again today. Lisa S., Bullard, TX

  • @lisa3754 RIP.

  • I LOVE George Jones SO MUCH, this just made me so happy :) I'm sharing it on FB, Thank You!

  • The bass player is Ron Gaddis , Lorrie Morgan's 1st husband....

    Fiddle player is Jim Buchanan......

  • you see that old right arm swingin you know where geting down to some country

George & Alan is the best!!!

  • I love this song!! He's true country.. today's country can't beat this!

  • @mizzdoreena Amen to that!!

  • @mizzdoreena josh turner did a good cover of this. and obviously you aint listening to the right stuff

  • @mizzdoreena i agree this is what it's all about but you should check out josh turners version it's not too bad he's no opossum but he's pretty good

  • @mizzdoreena Most of today's music in general would have trouble beating this, GEORGE JONES RULES!

  • @mizzdoreena I agree . .I am an old fart so grew up and cut my teeth on him and other legends of the day in country and bluegrass .... in his day King George was the best !!! Still is considered the greatest ' living' country singer ... and 80 yrs old and still doin over 60 concerts a year . .he also has been a big inspiration to me and others with his successful battle with alcohol addiction ;-)

  • now thats country

  • Geez he's good.

  • true country music legend always and forever.

  • When was this?

  • Aired on PBS around 2004, but they re-broadcast it every now and then. I noticed it was on again last year some time. The concert itself I'm not sure when it was recorded.

  • @Fragalishus I'm not sure but I think this is from the George Jones Live in Tennessee concert and it's available on DVD. It was recored at the Knoxville Civic Arena in May 1993. I'm not sure of the date but I know George's voice isn't quite as good as it was when this was recorded. I'm not really a George Jones fan but after seeing this....I'd love to buy this DVD!

  • @Fragalishus I believe it was around 1992? or so... In his autobiography, he speaks on it and I'm rereading the autobiography again, to remember where it is. But it's definately recorded in the early 90's, before George had the open-heart surgery, the car accident and the face lift.

  • @Fragalishus

This was recorded some time in 1995. I know this because i was brought up watching the video, my father is a massive jones fan and so am i. He is at his best around those years

  • @Fragalishus It was shot in 1993 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Great show!

  • @Fragalishus This was recorded in 1993? I believe... I know it was definately the early 90's. I used to own the DVD, but no longer have it. :(

  • @nahsgurl15

    1995 for sure

  • this is what country music needs to br today!!! a blend of steel guitar and a good ol fiddle!

  • @jbarr621 Instead of Bible

  • @jbarr621 Having a singer like George Jones doesn't hurt a thing either, after all he's only all world!

  • @jbarr621 So so true. My dad passed away in August. I was so disappointed that there was no good stuff on the tv or country radio station at the hospital while I visited with him. It would of been nice to relive some old memories at that time with some Hank or George. Maybe even some Loretta Lynn or Dolly. New country just doesn't connect like the old stuff does.

  • bass player is ronnie gaddis i seen them here in newfoundland worth every penny i love how ronnie plays that bass

  • I LOVE YOU

  • who is the bass player

  • Thanks for sharing this video

    Cheers from Belgium

    Eric - Studio ChinChan

  • u go george

  • love how his voice adds to this song,,love it!!

  • TIMELESS!!!!! WOW what a voice......GEORGE JONES is COUNTRY MUSIC

  • im a one women man

  • the part on the violin is nice

  • My favorite country song of all time!!!

  • i JUST LOVE THIS SONG LOVE YOU GEORGE

  • i also wrote a song with that same title but not a country song.check out gypwin

  • Mack3nz13chut3 we need not forget about conway!!!

  • Though God knows he has many faults---He truly is the greatest country music singer EVER

  • but i,m not that slow i have them all on one cd

  • why the hell are his songs removed i guest somethings that are great never ever lasts

  • love it ....like when he makes his oice deep

  • There are 2 geniune Country Music artists in the world. They are (1) Mr George Possom Jones and (2) Mr George Strait. George Jones IS the best Country artist------EVER!

  • I have to disagree. While I think both of said singers are great, there's just so many that it can never be listed down to a select few. 1) Johnny Horton 2) Johnny Cash 3) Roger Miller 4) Toby Kieth 5) Alan Jackson 6) Chris LeDoux 7) Waylon Jennings 8) Kris Kristofferson 9) Willie Nelson. There's hundreds more. But there's just so many geniune artists in the world that I just don't believe you can narrow them down. I think it's more of a mood thing. The list changes on mood I think.
  • no Strait?

  • Miller and Horton songs are still to this day surviving. Miller's King of the Road and Horton's One Woman Man and Honky-Tonk Man are still being sand by different artists but the Battle of New Orleans is still his song and people today are still listening to it yet he died in the sixties.

    *Johnny Horton*

  • Oops, mistyped. I meant to type sang not sand and fifties on sixties. Johnny Horton died in 1950 by a drunk driver.

  • 1960

  • Toby Keith over George Jones?

  • As I said they're so many. But I just listed a random ten. These aren't my top 10 favorites.

  • Awesome site.....is it alright if I sub?

  • George Jones musicians are very good...

  • lot of chub...

  • i hade my picture taken with him when i was 10 in lexington ky now i am 21 and i still love this man. GO GEORGE

  • inspired me to write the same title.check out 'gypwin' on you tube

  • Gotta love The Possum, but I'm more partial to the original by Johnny Horton. (I like it in the key of A)

  • and josh turner?

  • I'm a huge fan of Josh Turner, but although his version is good, its not the same; However, i will say Josh's cover of the old Don Williams song "Your Man" is amazing.

  • This was originally a Johnny Horton song! He wrote it or co-wrote it. :D

  • co-wrote it

  • Imagine - he has survived them all - Hes a Good Guy!!!!

  • great song

  • That sure is bright hair...

  • Knoxville Coliseum. What year?

  • Near as I can tell it's from Thanksgiving 2004. I think it's on a video called "Live from Tennessee".

  • No way is this 2004. Look at the hair and clothes of the people in the crowd (also the guitarist on the far left) -- it's late 80s or early 90s.

  • Well that's certainly possible. Perhaps the PBS broadcast of this concert is from 2004. As I said, from the digging I did it seems this particular concert is from "Live from Tennessee" and I believe that was released in 2004. The actual concert could have been recorded earlier tho.

  • @Fragalishus I think it was like 96

  • @ccg654 in the south they just might still dress like that --- a former southerner lol

  • @BillVol Bro, it's either 93 or 94. I forget. Go vols. I'll have my friend @mtt37849 message you the exact day.

  • THE POSSUM

  • The Best...my husband's favorite sone to me....

  • King George Jones Baby!!!

  • What a toe tapping song. He has such a deep voice that goes way way down. So Sexy. Dancing music.

  • Cool, man. I'm not really a country fan, just uploaded this for some family members. Checked your channel, tho, I like your cover of "I'll Fly Away".

  • GREAT ! Where can I find this video in dvd or divx ?

  • Try the PBS website. Think the show was from Thanksgiving '04. If I can find a direct link I'll add it to the info area.

  • I just saw a related video that it appears this concert was put out in a video called "Live from Tennessee".

  • I have to agree, but this is still an excellant version.

  • this song rocks out loud
