  • I'm still listening to this in 1983

  • Fuck you SME

  • funny thing about this band is they did this as a joke and had no Idea people would actually like them !

  • Born in 1968 so I was 12 in 1980 and had my teen years through the 80s. Best decade ever! Music, TV, movies, everything ruled!

  • @mitch19872 Damn right! Best decade ever. I was born in 1974 & i remember these golden years!

  • @mitch19872 why did you write this? To make us jealous? Evil people...

  • @ndzordz Haha sorry but its true..the 80s rocked in every way. The 70s, 90s. even 2000s have had some awesome moments but nothing had eveything awesome like the 80s did. Although Im sure everyone thinks that about their teen years no matter what decade it was.

  • @mitch19872 I know, I know.. 80's.. I wonder if the people appreciated the music.. because it was real music.. you know... so good musicians, guitarists like Eddie Van Halen, Kee Marcello, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stevie Vai... Now new guitarists are as good as me and my talent is as big as EVH's nail haha

  • @ndzordz Yeah they definitely had to be great back then to survive. It was based more on actual talent then looks. With autotune any pretty face can release an album and people will buy it nowdays. I do miss the hard rock bands/metal bands of the 80s the most. Nobody makes music like that anymore. Nothing beats the 80s headbanging arena rock!!

  • Honestly, I wasn't born in the 80s, but I have always loved the music from the 80s and 90s because it wasn't merely synthesizers and metaphors for sex set to a beat, it was actually a melody, creative lyrics (sometimes about sex still) and most of all, it was played on *real* instruments. That's not to say that there aren't good songs nowadays, just not as many musicians capable of making good music.

  • Glad I was part of the 80's

  • Music like this makes me feel like I was born 20 years too late. Love it.

Being 25, most of the bands I love are too old to tour or all of the originals are gone or dead :(

  • i used had my hair like the leader in my teen i would do that again

  • 80s kick fuckin ass!! i was born in the wrong time!!!!!

  • i like the older music too. Music before seemed to have some sort of meaning, it was an important expression made by the artists. Seems like its harder to find music with meaning these days.. I guess i crave the realness of older music.. Or im just way too old.....

  • 5 dudes need a nightlight cause they be afraid of the dark

  • CANADA ROCKS! PROUD TO BE A CANADIAN!

  • This song is alright.

  • See there first full concert in Yrs @ oakville Feb 2011

  • CANADIANS ROCK

  • i'm fucked...... i think, for liking this shit ;)

  • fuku reactors of japan

  • Song is used in the movie highways.:)

  • this song is in the trailer park boys christmas episode

  • @howsitti

J-Roc plays "Standing in The Dark" in his trailer. I think it was in the Christmas Special.

    Platinum Blonde Rule!

  • @whatthefluk hell yea it was!!!! "does that sound cool man" great stuff

  • I WAZ JUST A KID IN THE 80'S........I REMEBER WOMEN WERE THIN, HAD SHORT OR LONG CURLY HAIR.... KIDS PLAYED AT THE PARK......AND THER WERE STILL JOBS.......OH'' WELL'''.......TIMES CHANGE......

  • i used had my hair like them cool in the 80's

  • It's pretty sad how nowadays "music" is something a computer spits out. And that's coming from a 13 year old!

  • Hope fat hair comes back in style or the just get up out of bed and go out style. lol

  • Crystal Castles sent me here.

  • Got to love the 1980's.. thanks for the memories, guys. :-)

  • Fuck yeah! I <3 Platinum Blonde. :D

  • 0:00 - 0:27 is ringtone :P

  • R.I.P. Kenny

  • Life & music was the best in the '80s...I agree with most of these comments!!!

  • why is music about making money not music? why are we settling for crap instead of demanding more. I love music not computers. it takes no talent to come up with some thing the computer spit out. I crave real music.

  • @crewlla Because the crap sells. Remember when bands just played in their cloths and not take a hour or a stylist to go play. They just sang and not filter. I agree with ya. Today's singers are woossys.

  • 70s and 80s where better not just because of music . Today you get molested by the government at airports. I believe there must be more chemicals in the foods today. The reason I say is that people looked so different then. Girls were prettier too. Much more natural looking. People look so fat and aggresive now. I hope when I die that I can live in a heaven that is my own, My heaven would look like the 70s and 80s music and all forever. Dancing and loving endlessly. Guess I am dreaming again.

  • any canadian worth their weight in gold in the 80's knew this track...it rocks

  • I always listen to the greatest hits of theirs when I go on a long ride.

  • Ahhh, the 80's...I miss the 70's and 80's terribly. Great music, fun times. It's a shame they don't make music like they used to.

  • Please add insane drum solo by darceyolsen7 on yourtube. Ur drummer stood me up in Wasaga Beach at the campground at 13 years old. Yes he was busy banging on the drums. I used to sit outside at store waiting for him. Now my son is doing the same thing to women and I get Chris now. Sending only good vibs. kimi wright

  • @maindrag

bahaha I had the biggest crush on Kimi back then...assuming you are the same one. I remember being at No jacket Required and Spanky's in Brampton thinking "I really need to learn how to play drums..." years later being a drummer playing in New Orleans I was like "oh yeah, of course i learned this because of a girl..."

  • I want this CD

  • I love music from the 80's and 70's. Listening to these songs after listening to to todays musci really makes you think that music really is dying; if not dead. .. And my mom went to school with the lead singer. no lie lol

  • i finally got this record yesterday

  • Let's face it, today's artists and the future's artists will never be this good, ever again. Looks like we've got the best we'll get. It's just every man and woman's duty to make these masterpieces available to the youth.

  • I love This Song :) thank you for the post

  • thats from doesnt really matter she says that

  • I think this song means nothing...it's just pure fun, and spooky. Nobody has this style anymore. And wow, what a catchy hook!

  • Canada's answer to Duran Duran.

  • RIP Kenny

  • Mark Holmes is my 2nd Cousin

  • 8os were a magical era , a rift in time , a lost hope , music from the soul , a lost prophecy for the future , ahhh shut up already

  • May 28 in peterborough!!!! YA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember grade 6, this tape in my walkman. I played it till it got so stretched it was unlistenable. Thanks for this.

  • the 60's was a rmarkable time for music,the70's was experimenting with disco etc,the late 70's and80's defined rock and roll no music today comes close

  • A TOUR IS IN THE PLANNING

  • Crazyy songgg love old school

  • Music went downhill with the boy band invasion of 97-98....still lives on today.

  • They did a great version of this at The Mod Club last week. My fave PB tune, love Serges guitar and Chris's drumming on this one. Mark sounded exactly like he did in the 80's

  • aaahhh 1985

  • nothing wrong with disturbed or linkin park

  • i do agree about the 80's and 90's remark

  • @ricjamesbtch I agree! Linkin Park were great up until the last album- I loved the 80's influence mixed with everything- but why they decided to turn into Coldplay on the last album I'll never know- (Coldplay= U2 album filler)

I am going to see Platinum Blonde tonight here in Toronto!!!!

  • This is first time i see this band and it's really good!!! Thanks of my english teacher I know about them. She asked me "What's your hobby?" I said "Playing the guitar.." She wondered "What?!" I repeated "Playing the guitar!" And she said "Ooo I heard you, your hobby is Standing in the dark" all the class fall on the floor laughing. I came home and I spelled on youtube Standing in the dark and found another excellent song.

  • Many nations were involved in the cold war. Not just USSR and The United States. That being said , the Korean war and Veitnam war were part of the Cold War. So was the Cuban missile crisis...but so was every other civil, independence and guerilla conflict in those 30 sone years.

  • There was the Lebanon war that involved Israel, but I don't think the US was involved. There are too many conflicts to pick out.

  • I think this was one of the best goups in the 80's...pretty close to duran X2

  • great 80s song

  • i think i somehow missed that war between the u.s. and israel, that's a new one to me!

  • mmmm!!!!! Nothing sounds this good anymore!

  • Classic album! Great concert in Regina, Sask. I remember my girlfriend at the time loved the song Sad Sad Rain.

  • I wished we could go back and stop what ever happened back in the Eighties so that nothing today would happened. For instance, do we really need the freaking Jonas Brothers copying "Hello Goodbye" by the Beatles?Really?!? I mean, the Cold War was coming to an end between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., and the war between the U.S. and Israel was escalating.... Thank George Bush Senior for that, because his son also crippled the world economy by bringing the recession to the Americans, bloody nonsense!

  • What do u mean? I'm sayin Alot of Crap came out of the 80's. This song not included.

  • Rap helps more than you will ever know in fact it helped all past music come into the foreground. Give it it's dues. I can agree though that alot of it is horrible but so was alot of Music From This Time period right?

  • A lot of music was horrible from this time period? What the hell are you on about?

  • No shit hey! The 70's and the 80's were an amazing time for music, no question. Thats all I hear nowadays. I even noticed that when I was a kid in the 90's. I remember in 1995 I was starting to get so bored with new music and thankfully at that time they started releasing 80's retro cd's. Ever since then, I mostly listen to retro. its almost funny, as time goes on, technology gets better but music get worst. Hmmm.. FUCKED

  • like cars, as technology gets better cars/homes/food are more crap

    bring back 80's

  • @bittersweetist dont worry history repeats itself so one day music will be good again

  • @bittersweetist I blame Brittany Spears for the downfall of talent in the music industry. The talent that came out in the 90s started to decline but it hit the wall at Brittany. She redefined the industry: no talent, no problem. Just as long as you were hot looking, could move a lil or have a gimic of some sort and can sing well enough so it could be fixed in the studio - you get a pass. Crappiddy crap crap crap.

  • OZZY. ENUFF SAID.

  • listen this music in accar is like driving on a another planet....very special

  • If you get to Toronto, check out Mark Holmes club, the Mod Club. It's a cool place with a lot of nice regulars.

Also, sadly, Kenny MacLean died a little over a year ago. RIP.

  • I AGREE bring back the 70's 80's retro music

i hate rap crap, and nigga hip hop

honeymoon suite.. platinum blonde scene them live many many times, and know all the original band members personally.........

  • im with ya budd

  • absolutely awesome.....!!!

  • the mod club toronto im marks cuzin!

  • mark is my cuzin lol im spencer HOLMES

  • ok if you're his cousin, which club does he own in toronto??

  • In RETROspect.. these guys were true fusion. Punk/pop

  • this was actually my favorite song of the album.......god, i listened to this a lot while treeplanting in 1984. THis music was good, but not the best of the 1980s (ie, Police, U2, springsteen etc) but god, music was 10 times better then...... even tho the music now is generally unlistenable and completely worthless, i do believe another generation of great song-writers is coming (largely due to the crap we suffer with currently). :)

  • you're optimistic...

maybe. i just hope they bring back all the good music genres and cut the rap and hip-hop shit.

  • fuck yeah!!!!!! another person thinks like me!

  • cant agree more

  • OMG I TOTALLY AGREE!

  • Je comprends maintenant pourquoi c'était poche ... c't'un groupe canadian !

  • Ouais , et Madame Bourette est associée à cette chanson forever !

  • This song peaked at #32 on the Canadian charts which surprises me because I thought it was a much bigger hit, amazingly a lot of their tunes didn't do that well chartwise but what I do know is PB are the greatest Canadian band of all time.

  • Rush is great too!

  • Reunion tour for KENNY

  • one of the best songs of the 80's...and yeah, time for a reunion...with a due respect to Kenny...even better, do it to respect his memory

  • Rumour has it that they may in fact be doing a reunion tour. I have that on good authority..I knew the original drummer, Chris Steffler, from long ago.

  • Except for the fact that the bassist died well over a month ago, you may have been correct.

"Kenny MacLean, who rose to fame as bassist in the 1980s Toronto-based new wave band Platinum Blonde and had just released his third solo album, was found dead yesterday in his Yonge St. recording studio-apartment."

    Kenny died November 24th.

  • Kenny joined in the mid eighties, Mark Holmes is the original bass player and vocalist. Would have been better with Kenny though, he added a lot to the bands sound.

  • Brimhawk, you seem to have omitted the fact that Kenny was NOT an original member of the band...they might still be doing a reunion tour with the three original members.

  • You're absolutely correct.

I missed that part, and hope they reform for a reunion tour as well.

  • Was it a heart attack whiole he was brushing his teeth?

  • well that was what was posted.

  • rip kenny

  • RIP KENNY

  • rip kenny

  • Kenny Will be missed. I suspect a heart attack.

  • RIP Kenny.

  • video doesn't load! Seem to be more and more of these on Youtube that don't work!

  • Luv it

  • Yeah, a great from the 80's. Saw them at Shea's in Buffalo, still have that ticket stub. Wish I can go back in time to see them at the Inferno, HA

  • i remember a free show at the inferno in cheektawga ny the mob of people trying to pushthrough a single set of doors

  • The begin is missing!!! The woman should say " Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin." !!!

  • You have your songs confused, their song 'Crying Over You' starts with that sentence.

  • Actually it's Doesn't Really Matter.

  • Going to have to clarify something here... The Crying Over You video here on Youtube has that as an intro, edited in. Originally it was the intro on It Doesn't Really Matter.

  • nope its doesnt really matter

  • @lauranbri strange, they used that intro for the video for 'crying over you',but on the first c.d. it's on the beginning of 'Doesn't really matter'

  • @lauranbri i think you have your songs confused as the album i had start as greymilton said.

  • @lauranbri You mean on Doesn't Really Matter.

  • @lauranbri

Technically you're both correct. The original vinyl started with those sentences, before launching into "Standing in the Dark." The inclusion of those sentences before "Crying in the Dark" was an homage to their earlier work.

  • @lauranbri Actually the correct song title that has "Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin." at the start of the song is "Doesn't Really Matter" and the woman is the lead singers "Mark Holmes" mother.

  • That's on the start of Crying Over You.

  • Sorry, didn't read all the comments on this before responding. Was just going by the video on here, I didn't realise it was edited in from another track.

  • @greymilton you thinking of the song doesnt really matter. crying over you starts with that

  • Start sounds like start situation critical by same guys

  • I love the 80's! I wish i was alive during thar time frame. This song rocks!

  • i just listened to PLATINUM BLONDE - Crying Over You and i thought my heart was going to exsplode i miss the 80's and i was born in 95

  • Well you and miriley6 above missed out on great era! Politics and diets sucked then, esp w Aspartame, or Diet coke (I work in a health food store, that stuff causes brain damage), but music and movies were best! Fashion was improvement over 70's (when people looked disgusting!), but I think I like today's fashions better

  • Marc Holmes now is a DJ on CFNY FM 102.1 the edge..Thursday nights live from the Mod Club...thats what he is up to now...

  • Love this video! These guys really knew how to rock out! Lmao

  • Now that's 80's cheese. I loved Much in the 80's, you know, back when they played music videos.

  • good point, when did mtv and muchmusic stop playing vids....if i wanted to see reality shows i would switch to any other channels.

  • I remember when American artists used to praise Much for being a music channel that plays music. Well thats over. If I wanted to watch MTV i'd watch.....MTV. Play some music already

  • my dad played guitar many times with the guitarist, they went to school together

    he's from Toronto!

    i love these guys

  • One of my favorites <3333

  • God, I had forgotten all about them! Haven't heard from them since about 1988 or 1989.
