it's just a whammy bar. Pretty common, seen on almost all electric guitars, even cheap crappy ones. Pushing down on it tilts the bridge inwards, loosening the strings and lowering the pitch of the notes. That's why Matt was using it during the first instrumental section with the wobbly notes, vibrating the bar produces that sound.

WOW WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE *sarcasm* I actually give Matt props for that because when I make a mistake in front of an audience, I realize it and start to PANIC. I shake and turn red and my voice cracks. Matt doesn't :)

So let my comment be the last comment regarding Matt's mistake XP There's 6:54 minutes of awesomeness and only 1 second of mistake, yet so many are willing to comment about that mistake instead of that INCREDIBLE guitar playing @ 0:50, or that eargasmic voice @ 1:33, etc ;)
